Description

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller

Active Ingredients: Bromoxynil @ 200g/L & MCPA Ester @ 200g/L

Similar Or Comparable To Yates BuffaloPRO Weed Killer Concentrate (Yates), Searles Buffalo Master Selective Weedkiller (Searle), Bin-Die Selective Lawn Weeder (Amgrow) & OzCrop Bromo MCPA Herbicide (OzCrop)

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is for the control of Bindi, Clover, Oxalis and other broadleaf weeds in Buffalo, Kikuyu, Couch, QLD Blue Couch and other common grass lawns.

If you want a perfect lawn free of some of the most nuisance weeds, then Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is the right product to do the job.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is a concentrated herbicide blend of 2 powerful and effective broadleaf herbicides, Bromoxynil & MCPA.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is registered for use in the following established turf species:

  • Buffalo
  • Couch
  • Kikuyu
  • Qld Blue Couch
  • Bent
  • Fescue
  • Paspalum
  • Ryegrass Turf

Weeds Controlled In Turf:

  • Bindy-eye
  • Capeweed
  • Cat’s Ear Or Flatweed
  • Clover
  • Creeping Buttercup
  • Cudweed, Dandelion – Taraxacum Officinale
  • Fleabane
  • Jo-jo
  • Plantain
  • Soursob Or Oxalis
  • Thistle

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is a concentrate and needs to be diluted.   Dilution and application ratios are printed clearly on the packaging.  Do not apply excess herbicide or mix the herbicide any stronger than the manufacturer’s recommendations, too much herbicide can still damage any lawn type, not just Buffalo grass.  Some weeds can be quite robust, and therefore difficult to eradicate in a single spray. Other weed types will have masses of seeds already in the soil, and therefore will continue to produce more weeds, even though the last lot were killed.  If weeds re-emerge after spraying, or some weeds still remain alive, repeat the weed spraying again in another 2 weeks.

General Application Rates in Turf:

Mixing Rate (Turf):

  • Spray: 30mL per 5 – 10L of water per 50m2 or 60mL per 100m2.
  • Boom Spray: 1.5L/500L/10,000m2 (15mL/5L/100m2).
  • Watering Can & Sprinkle Bar: 30mL per 10-20L of water per 50m².

Do Not Spray Weeds After Lawn Mowing:
As with all weed killers, never spray any herbicide on a lawn within a week of its last lawn mowing.  The open wounds created from mowing will quickly absorb any herbicide and will damage or kill any lawn type, not just Buffalo.  It’s also a great idea to never mow the lawn until one week after applying herbicides, this allows ample time for the weeds to absorb the herbicide before it is removed with lawn mowing.

Pack Sizes: 1L, 5L & 20L

Registrant: PCT Holdings PTY LTD (APVMA #: 80024)

I used this product to kill clover in my lawn. I have 10 acres. I have sprayed it 3 times using recommended doses. Didn’t work, I rang company who advised to double the rate for hand sprays which I did and sprayed the lawn again with a rapid spray. I sprayed about half an acre by hand. It has now killed my grass in patches and there is still clover in the area sprayed. Would not recommend for home use. Might try it on the lantana. Waste of money for me.

To our knowledge, no herbicides are registered to control creeping charlie effectively. Repeated applications of selective broadleaf weedkillers like Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller should help to suppress the weed, and with ongoing maintenance sprays reduce it from the turf. Results can't be guaranteed because the weed is not listed on the product's weed table. A good wetting agent or penetrant should be included with the spray mix (do not use detergent or washing liquid) for best results.

Penetrants are a premium Wetting Agent, Spreading Agent, Penetrating Surfactant and anti-evaporant all in one and are recommended on weeds with hard to wet, waxy or hairy leaves/foliage & in challenging hot, dry or wet application conditions. We recommend organosilicone penetrants such as PCT Reactor Penetrant, Consume Penetrant, or Eurochem Penetrant for the best results,

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is a post-emergent herbicide recommended for actively growing weeds for best results. It can be applied as a spot spray or a whole lawn application. It will only target the existing weeds in the lawn and does not provide ongoing residual control. If there are existing weed seeds in the soil, these will germinate under suitable conditions. We recommend pre-emergent herbicides such as Spartan Herbicide, Barricade Herbicide, Oxafert or Echelon Duo Advanced Herbicide, Insecticide & Fertiliser for residual control.

Like all pesticides, 'Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller' requires attention to safety practices. It is important to protect yourself, your livestock and your pets from exposure to herbicides that contain Bromoxynil & MCPA until they have dried. These herbicides should be used and applied according to the label instructions. Read and follow the label instructions carefully. This is the most important step in protecting yourself and your pets from exposure to herbicides. The label will tell you how to apply the herbicide safely and what precautions to take. (1) Wear protective clothing when applying herbicides. (2) Keep children, livestock and pets away from treated areas. Children and pets should not play in or near treated areas until the herbicide has dried completely. (3) Wash your hands thoroughly after applying herbicides.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller does not list the compatibility with foliar fertilisers. As many herbicides are mixed with fertilisers in tank mixes, this could be done 'off-label' at your own risk. We recommend a jar test of the products used in the correct ratios. A jar test aims to determine the compatibility of two or more chemicals before mixing them in a large batch. This is especially important when mixing herbicides and fertilisers, as some combinations can be incompatible and cause adverse reactions. If the mixture shows no signs of incompatibility after 30 minutes, it is considered compatible and can be safely mixed in a large batch. It should not be used if the mixture shows any signs of incompatibility. Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is compatible with the following herbicides - Metsulfuron-Methyl, Diclofop-Methyl, Dicamba, MCPA, Dimethoate, Omethaote, Endosulfan & Chlorpyrifos. Tank mixing Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller with other herbicides is 'off-label' and at your own risk.

Including a surfactant or wetting agent with Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is recommended to provide the best results. Using a surfactant or adjuvant with a selective herbicide can have several benefits. (1) Improved herbicide coverage: Surfactants or adjuvants can help herbicides spread more evenly across the plant surface, ensuring that the herbicide reaches all parts of the targeted plant. This can lead to more effective weed control. (2) Increased herbicide absorption: Surfactants or adjuvants can help herbicides penetrate the plant's waxy cuticle layer, increasing the herbicide's absorption into the plant. This can improve the herbicide's effectiveness and reduce the amount of herbicide required. (3) Reduced herbicide runoff: Surfactants or adjuvants can help herbicides stick to the plant surface and reduce runoff, minimising the risk of herbicides contaminating nearby water sources. (4) Improved weed control: Using a surfactant or adjuvant with a selective herbicide such as Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller can enhance its effectiveness in controlling weeds.

It is not registered or recommended to control Nutgrass.  Militate MSMA Herbicide is also not registered or recommended to control nutgrass in lawns. We suggest herbicides made from Halosulfuron (Tempra 750 WG, Nutless Herbicide or Sempra 750WG Herbicide) for this purpose. These are registered for the selective, post-emergence control of nutgrass and Mullumbimby couch in turf and are compatible with Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller. Please carefully read 'directions for use' label before application. The 'directions for use' can be found on the product screen under the SDS & Technical tab as a downloadable file.

Dicamba is the only selective active registered with the AVPMA to control Pennywort in turf, but it will cause death or severe damage to your buffalo lawn.  You might like to try an 'off-label' application of Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller or Bow and Arrow Herbicide.  Even though these do not include control of Pennywort, they are safe to use on Buffalo Turf and, with repeat applications, 'may' suppress and eventually remove the weed.  Off-label trials are undertaken at your own risk and are not guaranteed by the manufacturer.  They should be done in inconspicuous or small areas or the target area before a complete application is undertaken.

1 - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is only registered to control certain weeds in the situations specifically listed on the product's label (directions for use).  It is selective for broadleaf weeds and not a general-purpose knockdown weedkiller.
2 - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller works by foliar contact with the plant and has no ongoing residual control.
3 - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is a post-emergence spray only with no residual control.  If there are dormant seeds in the soil, they will still successfully regerminate in the future.
4 - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is registered to be manufactured and approved for use by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), which is the Australian Government regulator that oversees all agricultural and veterinary (Agvet) chemical products in Australia.
5 - There is no warranty that Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller has residual control as it is not registered for this purpose or makes claims that it does.
6 - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is manufactured by Pest Control Technologies (PCT) who are located in Brisbane, Australia.  Many of the active ingredients used in the formulation are sourced from overseas factories as they are not made in Australia.

Providing the Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller was applied where a total of 60mL of chemical was evenly applied over 100m2; it should not have damaged the Buffalo Grass.  If it was applied heavier than this rate (likely if applied by spot spraying, not boom application), then phytotoxicity may have occurred, particularly if the temperature was 20o or higher.  The clover that was sprayed should show the effects of the chemical after 3-weeks, particularly if a suitable wetting agent was also used when spraying.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller recommendation is 30mL per 5 – 10L of water per 50m2 or 60mL per 100m2. Using this recommendation, you will have to calculate  how much water you will need to achieve this i.e. if you know you can evenly apply 5L  over 50m2  with  your hand sprayer, you would mix 30mL to 5L of water and apply as per recommendations.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller does not claim any control for Snakeweed (Stachytarpheta spp.).  2,4-D amine and Fluroxypry (i.e. Starane) Herbicides are registered for snakeweed control in non-agricultural land.  Note they are only effective in actively growing plants.  Spraying in summer is most effective.

Identifying the variety of Buffalo Turf you have is very difficult as there are many varieties currently available in Australia.  Most Buffalo varieties will share many of the same characteristics, however, some varieties have thinner leaves and the colour of the turf may vary slightly.  For example, Sapphire Buffalo has slightly thinner leaves (6.4mm average) and vibrant colour all year round compared to other varieties such as Palmetto or Sir Walter Buffalo (9-9mm average leaf size) with a slightly lighter colour. Identification from photos would be nearly impossible and even getting a turf expert to personally inspect the turf would not be guaranteed.

If you think you have a Buffalo variety like Sir Walter, Kings Pride, Palmetto, Sapphire, Matilda or another Australian Buffalo then the use of herbicides registered for Buffalo Turf should be fine.  If you think you have an ST Variety (ST26, ST85 and ST91) then selective herbicides registered for use in Buffalo is out of the question.  If unsure of the variety a small trial in an out of the way area is always recommended.

Although the Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is registered for use on Buffalo Turf & Lawn (in general), there are instances where selective herbicides containing Bromoxynil & MCPA can cause severe damage to ST varieties eg ST 26, ST 85 and ST 91.  Unfortunately, as Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller contains these active ingredients I would not recommend using it if you have an ST Buffalo variety.

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • Do not apply in windy conditions, or if rain is expected within 24 hours.
  • Do not apply if shade temperatures are expected to exceed 30ºC within a 72 hour period.
  • Do not apply when soil is dry and lawn is suffering from moisture stress.
  • Do not mow or fertilise for 7 days before or after application
  • Do not apply if weeds are wilted by dry or cold weather or if crops are at a susceptible stage.
  • Do not spray if weeds are wilted by dry or cold weather.
  • Do not spray if rain is likely within four hours

How to Prepare for Turf Application:

  • Product can be applied with most garden sprayers.
  • Avoid using fine droplets or applying product in windy conditions as this will increase spray drift.
  • It is important to apply the recommended spray mixture when weeds are young and actively growing.
  • When applying product ensure the amount of spray mixture used corresponds to the recommended area of lawn to be treated.
  • Rain within 24 hours of application may affect the results.

Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is a concentrate and needs to be diluted.  Dilution and application ratios are printed clearly on the packaging.  Do not apply more herbicide or mix the herbicide any stronger than the manufacturer’s recommendations, too much herbicide can still damage any lawn type, not just Buffalo grass.

Caution:

  • Do not allow spray to contact or drift onto plants you do not want killed.
  • Do not apply within the drip line of shallow rooted trees or shrubs or apply product in areas where chemical may be washed into contact with the roots of desirable plants.
  • Do not allow chemical containers or sprays to get into drains, sewers, streams or ponds.
  • Do not feed grass clippings from treated areas to poultry or other animals.
  • Equipment used to spray this product should not be used for applying other materials to sensitive plants. If such use is unavailable, clean equipment thoroughly with ammonia or washing soda and rinse with several changes of water and detergent.

Storage and Disposal

Non-refillable containers:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
  • Triple or preferably pressure rinse containers before disposal.
  • Add rinsings to spray tank.
  • Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site.
