Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide (Diquat) DIQUAT Apparent AG

Description

Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Diquat @ 200g/L

Similar or Comparable to: Reglone Non-Residual Herbicide (Sygenta)

Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide is for pre-harvest crop desiccation and the control of a wide range of broadleaf weeds in certain crops as per directions for use.  Diquat non residual herbicide is also for use in aquatic areas to control weeds including duck-weed, red azolla, water hyacinth, salvinia, marsilea, water lilies , water lettuce, cattail and pond-weed.

Diquat is an aqueous solution of diquat, a non-volatile herbicide with unique properties. It very quickly kills green growth with which it comes into contact and is particularly effective against broadleaf weeds. It is inactivated on contact with the soil and crop roots and seeds below the soil remain unharmed. It can be safely applied around bushes and trees which have no green bark. It is non-volatile, easily mixed with water and active at low concentrations.

Diquat can be used pre-planting and pre-crop emergence to control weeds in seed beds before sowing, or post-sowing pre-crop emergence.  Apply as a blanket spray with this product using boom spray equipment or knapsack sprayers.

Diquat not only provides an efficient and reliable means of preparing a crop for harvest in potatoes, but desiccation with Diquat will also contribute to good tuber uniformity, skin set and storage.

Diquat acts rapidly on the green parts of all plants and is locally systemic.  For best results, an even and complete coverage with good penetration of the spray into the target foliage is necessary. Applications made in dull weather or at the end of the day will help to maximise the performance of Diquat resulting in the green parts of most plant crops and weeds being completely desiccated within a few days of spraying.

Diquat is a contact herbicide that produces desiccation and defoliation.  Diquat is a nonselective herbicide that acts quickly to damage only those parts of the plant to which it is applied.

Removes duck weed (Azolla) from dam

    Arwed (verified owner)

Product works and removes the duck weed from the dam. Problem: It also kills plant life surroundig the dam, such a bromeliads, grass and similar. But in time it will grow back and hopefully NOT the duck weed.

Directions Of Use

General Spray Rates:

Aquatic Areas (Duck Weeds, Red Azolla, Water Hyacinth, Salvinia, Marsilea, Water Lilies and Water Lettuce)

Rate: 5L – 10L per Ha

Comments: Apply as an overall spray wetting foliage thoroughly. Clear water is necessary for best results as suspended soil particles interfere with herbicidal action. Use the higher rate for heavy infestations or for deep or dirty water. A repeat application 7 to 14 days later may be necessary for control of dense infestations. Oxygen depletion of decaying weeds may occur, therefore not more than 1 ⁄4 of the area should be treated at once to ensure adequate oxygen supply for fish.

Aquatic Areas – Small Areas (Duck Weeds, Red Azolla, Water Hyacinth, Salvinia, Marsilea, Water Lilies and Water Lettuce)

Rate: 400 mL/ha plus 150 mL Agral Wetter 600 / 100 L water

Comments: Small areas – spray to wet weeds thoroughly. About 1 mL of product should be sufficient to treat about 1 m2

Cropping  – General weed control & Pre-harvest crop desiccation

Boom Spray: 100mL/Ha – 10L/Ha

High volume hand spraying: 200 mL/200L water

High Volume Spot Spraying:

Hand held equipment use 250 mL of product per 100 L of water and spray to visible wetness (about 700 to 1000 L/ha). Use 50 mL product plus 30 mL Agral per 15 litre knapsack.

Rates are a general guide only.  Always refer to Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide Directions for Use for full instructions, use rates, application and critical comments.

Does Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide kill annual grasses like oats?

  1. Q Does Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide kill annual grasses like oats?
Asked by Jeff on April 21, 2024 10:16 pm
    Answered by the admin

'Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide' is registered to control a wide range of broadleaf weeds and a small number of annual grass weeds, such as Barley Grass, Brome Grass, Silver Grass, and Sweet Vernal Grass. Paraquat 250 (i.e., Gramoxone) is preferred where grasses are dominant, and Diquat, where mainly broadleaf weeds exist.

  2. We have submerged weeds in our dam about 1/2 metres deep, dam size around 400,000 litres. Do we need to add any product into Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide to get herbicide down the water column onto weed growth? if so, what do you recommend?

    Answered by the admin

When using Diquat Non-Residual Herbicide to control aquatic weeds (Duck Weeds, Red Azolla, Water Hyacinth, Salvinia, Marsilea, Water Lilies and Water Lettuce), the herbicide is applied on its own. Please read the directions for use label (provided the product and available via the Specialist Sales website) for complete instructions.  When treating large areas, the critical comments advise the herbicide is applied as an overall spray, wetting foliage thoroughly. Clearwater is necessary for best results as suspended soil particles interfere with herbicidal action. Use a higher rate for heavy infestations or deep or dirty water. A repeat application 7 to 14 days later may be necessary to control dense infestations. Oxygen depletion of decaying weeds may occur. Therefore, not more than 1/4 of the area should be treated at once to ensure adequate oxygen supply for fish. If treating smaller areas, adding a wetting agent such as Agral 600 or Reactor 600 is recommended to wet the weeds thoroughly.

Tips For Use

Mixing:

  • Add the required quantity of Diquat to water in the spray tank and agitate to give even mixing.
  • Agitate again if left standing.
  • Use clean water only, as suspended soil particles in dirty water will interfere with herbicidal action.

Wetting Agent:

  • Diquat contains no wetting agent, and a non-ionic wetting agent must be added to the spray mixture unless otherwise specified.

  • Best results will be obtained when application is made in dull weather or at the end of the day.
  • Diquat is rapidly absorbed and is not affected by rain falling shortly after application.

High Volume Spot Spraying:

  • Hand held equipment use 250 mL of product per 100 L of water and spray to visible wetness (about 700 to 1000 L/ha).
  • Use 50 mL product plus 30 mL Agral per 15 litre knapsack.
