Description

Freehand Herbicide

Active Ingredients: Pendimethalin @ 10g/kg & Dimethenamid-P @ 7.5g/kg

Freehand Herbicide is for pre-emergent control of weeds associated with ornamental plants in containers and in-ground and in warm-season turf.

Freehand Herbicide provides powerful pre-emergent control for the toughest weeds.

Freehand Herbicide offers the ornamental grower and turf manager a new tool for pre-emergent weed control of broadleaf and grassy weeds.  Its two unique active ingredients, pendimethalin and dimethenamid-P, prevent weeds from growing and multiplying by inhibiting cell growth in seedling shoots and impeding plant cell microtubule assembly in roots.

This powerful herbicide is labelled for the control and suppression of more than 60 of the toughest, most troublesome weeds; promoting higher quality and more marketable plants, and more attractive turf.

Why choose Freehand Herbicide:

  • Broad-spectrum weed control: Freehand is a unique combination of two modes of action (Groups D and K) for broader spectrum weed control and resistance management. Freehand is safe on a broad range of ornamental crops and warm-season turfs and provides up to three months of control and suppression of over 60 of the toughest weeds
  • Easy to use: Freehand’s granular formulation and excellent particle distribution allows for easy spreading and flexible application rates. Freehand can be applied at 100-200 kg/ha (10-20 g/m2 ) depending on target weeds.
  • Excellent Residual control: One application of Freehand provides residual control that stops weeds as they germinate for up to three months, giving season-long weed control. Freehand is also very stable on the soil surface and does not need to be watered in immediately. Rainfall or irrigation will move the product to the target site and activate the herbicide maintaining long-lasting weed control.

One application will last for 2- 3 months depending upon rainfall, irrigation, soil type (potting mix), temperature and weed seed burden.

What turf species and situations can Freehand Herbicide be used on:

Recreational Turf: including but not limited to: fairways, golf tees, municipal sports fields, industrial commercial and domestic lawns.

Tips For Use

General instructions:

  • Freehand Herbicide is a selective herbicide for the control of most annual grasses and certain broadleaved weeds.
  • Freehand controls weeds by inhibiting seedling development; it will not control established weeds. For best results, container or soil surfaces should be free of weeds, trash and clods at the time of application.
  • Unusually cold, excessively wet, or hot and dry conditions that delay or extend weed seed germination can reduce weed control.

Note on Ornamentals: Freehand Herbicide has been used on a wide range of ornamental species without damage. However, some species and varieties are particularly susceptible to chemical products. As sensitivity may be related to local conditions it is advisable that only a small portion of plants are treated first to determine the reaction to the product before treating the entire crop.  Refer to Freehand Herbicide directions for use for suitable ornamental species.

Ornamental Plants:

  • Do not apply Freehand 2 weeks prior to or 2 weeks after leaf bud break or during periods of flush growth.
  • Newly formed leaves are sensitive to this product.
  • Spotting or leaf drop may result from such applications.
  • Do not apply directly to bare roots of woody ornamentals as injury may occur.

Turf:

  • Apply prior to germination of weeds (typically from early spring through to late summer early Autumn).
  • Delay overseeding of treated turfgrass for at least 3 months after the last application.
  • Application of Freehand to newly sodded areas must be delayed until the turfgrass root system has been well established and turfgrass mowed at least 2 times.

Restraints:

  • Do not apply to ornamentals under stress resulting from factors including (but not limited to) lack of moisture, hail damage, flooding, herbicide injury, mechanical injury, poor soil condition or disease.
  • Do not broadcast over wet foliage.
  • Do not apply in glasshouses or poorly ventilated poly-houses.
  • Do not apply in windy conditions as likely to affect good distribution.
  • Do not apply to putting greens.
  • Do not apply via aerial application.
  • Do not apply to turfgrass within 2 weeks of mechanical disturbance such as aerification or verticutting.
  • Do not apply to newly seeded turf areas.

Storage:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.

Safety Directions:

  • Will irritate the eyes.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • If the product gets in your eyes, wash it out immediately with water.
  • When opening the container and preparing the product for use, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and a face shield or goggles.
  • If applying by hand, wear cotton overalls over normal clothing buttoned to the neck or wrist (or equivalent clothing), a washable hat, elbow-length chemical resistant gloves and face shield or goggles.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • After each day’s use, wash face shields or goggles and contaminated clothing.

First Aid:
