Meteor Herbicide METEOR Amgrow

Description

Meteor Herbicide is discontinued & no longer available.

Active Ingredient: Metolachlor @ 960g/L

Meteor Herbicide provides pre-emergent control of various annual grasses in certain turf varieties.  It provides up to four months of pre-emergent control of winter grass, crowsfoot grass and summer grass in a range of warm season turf varieties, including soft leaf varieties of Buffalo, Common & Hybrid Couches, Kikuyu, Zoysia and QLD Blue Couch.

Meteor is a new generation pre-emergent herbicide containing 960g/L of the active ingredient metolachlor. As a predominantly shoot-absorbed herbicide, Meteor can be applied to turf surfaces with little impact on root development, making it an ideal pre-emergent solution for use during propagation.

Meteor is a short residual, pre-emergent herbicide for controlling certain important annual grasses in the situations nominated. The product acts mainly through shoot (coleoptile) absorption. Its effectiveness depends on rainfall or irrigation to move it down into the top 3 to 4 cm of soil, where it must be present at the time of weed germination.

What turf varieties can Meteor Herbicide be used on;

  • Established turf;
  • Couch (Cynodon dactylon)
  • Common kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum)
  • Zoysia (Zoysia japonica)
  • QLD Blue couch (Digitaria didactyla)
  • Buffalo (Senotaphrum secundatum)
    • (Other varieties have not been tested)

What weeds does Meteor Herbicide control;

  • Winter grass (Poa annua)
  • Summer grass (Digitaria sanguinalis) (Digitaria ciliaris)
  • Crows foot grass (Eleusine indica)

Meteor has been shown to provide between three and four months of preventative control against winter grass, crowsfoot grass and summer grass. Adjusting the rate of application will directly impact the longevity of control achieved.

Field studies have consistently demonstrated that a rate of 2L/Ha will provide up to 4 months of control of Poa annua (winter grass) and up to 3 months of control of crowsfoot grass and summer grass. Soil texture and moisture levels play a major role in the longevity achieved with Meteor Herbicide. Shorter periods of herbicide activity may be observed in sandy soils with regular irrigation or rainfall.

Tips For Use

Water Volume and Irrigation:

  • As a pre-emergent herbicide, it is critical that Meteor Herbicide is positioned correctly in the top of the soil column where weed seeds will be germinating.
  • To achieve this, it is recommended that 2-4mm of irrigation be applied immediately following application.
  • As a leaf-absorbed herbicide, it is essential that irrigation occurs within 2 hours to ensure the active is not absorbed by the host plant.
  • A coarse nozzle and a minimum water volume of 400L/Ha are recommended to achieve adequate coverage during application.

Restraints:

  • Do not use on turf weakened by weather conditions or by physical damage due to intensive use or cultural practices such as scarification, coring, aeration and top dressing.
  • Do not apply to areas where prolonged periods of water logging are expected.
  • Do not apply to annual ryegrass or tall fescue.
  • Do not apply to golf and bowling greens.
  • Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system.
  • Do not apply with aircraft.
  • Turf: do not graze treated areas or feed lawn (turf) clippings from treated areas to animals, including poultry.

Spray Drift Restraints:

  • Do not apply with spray droplets smaller than a coarse spray droplet size category according to “APVMA Compliance for Mandatory coarse or Larger Droplet Size Categories” located under this title in the General Instructions section of this label.

General Instructions:

  • The product is a short residual, pre-emergent herbicide for controlling certain important annual grasses in the situations nominated.
  • The product acts mainly through shoot (coleoptile) absorption.
  • Its effectiveness depends on rainfall or irrigation to move it down into the top 3 to 4 cm of soil, where it must be present at the time of weed germination.

Application:

  • Ground application: Apply in a minimum of 400 L/ha of water (4L per 100m2).
  • Do not apply with aircraft.

Mandatory Instructions For Ground Applications

  • Use only nozzles that the nozzles’ manufacturer has rated to deliver a coarse droplet size category as referenced to ASABE or BCPC.
  • Choose a nozzle specified to provide the droplet size category required in the label Spray Drift Restraints.
  • Do not use a higher spray system pressure than the maximum the manufacturer specifies for the selected nozzle to deliver the droplet size category required in the label Spray Drift Restraint.

Mixing:

  • Add the required amount directly to the spray tank, fill it with water and mix well.

Compatibility:

  • Meteor Herbicide is compatible with Atrazine 500 g/L and Glyphosate.

Precautions:

Re-Entry Period:

  • Do not enter the treated area until the spray has dried.
