Description

Ozcrop Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Metsulfuron-Methyl @ 600g/kg

Similar Or Comparable To Brush-Off (Dupont), Ally (Dupont), Associate (Nufarm), Militia Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide (Axichem) & Surefire Metsulfuron (PCT)

Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl 600WG Herbicide is used for the control of certain broadleaf weeds in winter cereal crops and broadleaf weeds and brush species (woody weeds) in pastures, rights of way, commercial and industrial areas as per the Directions For Use table.

  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl is a residual sulfonylurea compound, used as a selective pre and postemergence herbicide for broadleaf weeds and some annual grasses. It is a systemic compound with foliar and soil activity, and it works rapidly after it is taken up by the plant. Its mode of action is by inhibiting cell division in the shoots and roots of the plant, and it is biologically active at low use rates. It is very effective on weeds that include bulbs or tubers.
  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl is commonly used in broadacre farming, woody weed & brush control and forestry situations. It is usually used together with other herbicides that control the weeds not susceptible to metsulfuron. Metsulfuron-methyl also controls susceptible weeds in cereals, where selectivity is due to rapid metabolism within the cereal plants.

Brush Control:

  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl 600 controls more than 40 different species of brush, broadleaf and bulbous weeds. Mixed infestations of hard to control woody weeds, including Lantana, Gorse, Bracken, Tree-of-Heaven and Blackberry, are also easily controlled with one pass.
  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl 600 also controls nuisance pasture weeds, including Doublegee, Erodium, Sorrel, Onion grass and Paterson’s Curse, & many more.
  • For a full table of weeds controlled, refer to the directions of use.

Broad Acre:

  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl 600 is a highly selective herbicide for the control of many broadleaf weeds in winter cereals. It can be applied any time from the three-leaf stage of the crop – when the weeds are young and actively growing – to before booting.
  • Ozcrop Metsulfuron Methyl 600 is compatible with a wide range of grass and broadleaf herbicides, making weed control even more cost-effective with the one-pass application.

Hi John and thanks for your review for Metsulfuron Methyl Herbicide. Glad to hear you love the product. As you probably know Metsulfuron is not registered for use in domestic garden situations and care must be taken if you do decide to use it off-label for this purpose. Metsulfuron Methyl mainly targets broadleaf plants which in a garden situation include plants such as trees, shrubs, roses etc. There have been instances of shallow-rooted trees being poisoned by this herbicide via soil contact, even though they were not directly sprayed. Metsulfuron methyl also has a residual effect that can last in the soil and affect non-target species as well as future plantings.

When used as directed, Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide has an NIL withholding period, and stock may continue to graze where the product has been used in pasture situations. To ensure product efficacy, it is recommended that stock be removed from the pasture for about three days. However, this is only best practice advice. Certain plants, such as bracken, are naturally toxic to stock. When toxic plants are present, it is recommended that grazing be delayed until complete browning of treated plants has occurred.

Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide is not registered or recommended for use in any domestic turf or garden situation, and to do so is at your own risk. When applying metsulfuron-methyl, there is a risk of root uptake of non-target broadleaf (e.g. trees & shrubs) species due to its mobility potential, which is affected by environmental factors, soil profiles, temperatures and rainfall. The half-life of metsulfuron-methyl ranges from 14 to 180 days, with a typical time of 30 days. The plant back period could be up to 6 months. Metsulfuron-Methyl is broken down in the soil mainly by chemical hydrolysis and, to a lesser degree, by soil microbes. Other factors which affect breakdown are soil pH, soil moisture and temperature. Research indicates it is faster in warm, wet, and acidic soils and slowest in alkaline, cold, and dry soils.

Buckthorn (Rhamnus alaternus) is not listed as a species controlled by Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide. However, as Buckthorn is a Mediterranean broadleaf species, it should be susceptible to Herbicides often used to control trees. For stem injection applications, these include Surefire Treeson Herbicide, Tordon RegrowthMaster Herbicide & Tressel 250 SL Herbicide. A basal bark spray could also be applied using Access Herbicide. Access Herbice, Garlon Herbicide and Vigilant II gel Herbicide can be applied to cut stump applications. Alternatively, a mixture of Glyphosate and Metsulfuron 600WG could be used as a foliar spray or by stem injection. Note that these chemicals are 'off-label', so results may be mixed.

Ozcrop Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide is not registered or recommended to control radiata pine.  If you choose to use Ozcrop Metsulfuron 'off-label' via the stem injection method, you can find tips and injection method instructions on product listings such as "Tordon RegrowthMaster Herbicide."  A few basic tips when stem injecting, for example, with a 3/8 drill bit or an axe, is to get the herbicide into the phloem tissue in the tree.  Once a hole or opening has been made, the herbicide must be injected as soon as possible before any sap can set.  On smaller trees (i.e. 10cm), 3 injection sites are recommended, and on larger trees (60cm), 14 injection sites are adequate.

Including a penetrant with Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide will guarantee a much better kill, especially when spraying hard-to-kill, noxious woody weeds.  We also recommend the inclusion of a 3rd woody weed chemical in the mix, such as Grazon Extra or an equivalent to Grazon DS (Scrubba, Hatchet, Raizon etc.), for the best results.  The combination of triclopyr, picloram and metsulfuron is very potent and has provided successful results when spraying lantana for many years.

Metsulfuron-Methyl is not registered or recommended for use in Turf or Lawn situations.  Metsulfuron targets mainly broadleaf species of plants which also include most shrubs, trees, hedges, roses etc in your garden so spray drift or accidental application can cause problems.  It can also remain active in the soil for a period of time and cause damage or death to non-target plants.  We would recommend you consider using a selective herbicide registered for use in turf, such as Dicamba M Selective Herbicide, Fairway Herbicide or 24D Amine,

The activity of Metsulfuron Methyl is dependant on several factors, including soil acidity, soil temperature & moisture, clay content, and, particularly, organic matter content.  Compared to other herbicides, the results from Metsulfuron Methyl may be slow to appear, and weeds may only appear to be stunted or suppressed.  Metsulfuron does remain active in the soil for some time.  The effects from Metsulfuron may not be seen for weeks rather than days.

Metsulfuron Methyl is not registered for use in Buffalo Turf.  Metsulfuron Methyl Herbicide is designed to kill broadleaf species of plants.  Buffalo Turf is also a broadleaf species so the application of metsulfuron will cause severe damage and most likely death of the turf.  If you are looking at removing broadleaf weeds I would suggest looking at herbicides that are registered for use in Buffalo Turf - Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller (https://bit.ly/Surefire-Buffalo)

Tips For Use

Restraints (brush Applications):

  • Do not spray if rainfall is expected within 4 hours. Do not store the prepared spray for more than 2 days.
  • Do not store tank mixes with other products.
  • Do not apply to pastures based on paspalum notatum or setaria spp. As their vegetative growth will be reduced.
  • Do not treat newly sown pastures as severe damage may occur.
  • Do not use on pasture seed crops.

Use of Surfactant/ Wetting Agent:

  • Metsulfuron 600 wg herbicide alone – it is important that a penetrant, surfactant or wetting agent is always used with this product. If no specific wetting agent/ surfactant is recommended in the directions for use table use a non-ionic surfactant (100%) at 100ml/ 100l of final spray volume.
  • Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide tank mixed with Glyphosate – Use a non-ionic surfactant when mixing with glyphosate herbicide. In some tank mix situations the use of an organosilicone penetrant (eg Pulse, Eurochem Penetrant, Probe or Saturate) is recommended. This recommendation must be strictly followed in order to achieve adequate weed control.
  • Gas gun applications – An organosilicone penetrant (eg Pulse, Eurochem Penetrant, Probe or Saturate) should be added at the rate of 10mL/ 5L or 200mL/100L of final spray volume.
  • Where a mineral spray oil is recommended use 1L/100L of final spray volume (ie 1% volume/volume). A non-ionic surfactant should still be used with this mixture.
  • Always read the instructions on the companion product label when tank mixing.

Compatibility:

This product is compatible with glyphosate formulations and commonly used pasture & broadacre herbicides such as MCPA Amine, MCPA Ester, 2,4-D Amine, Dicamba, Clopyralid (Lontrel), Fluroxypyr (Starane), and commonly used insecticides such as chlorpyrifos and omethoate. Always refer to the companion product label for instructions/ restrictions.

Ecological and Environmental Effects:

  • Metsulfuron-Methyl has a low toxicity to birds, aquatic organisms (including fish), bees and earthworms.
  • The breakdown of metsulfuron-methyl in soils is largely dependent on soil temperature, moisture content, and pH.(acidity / alkalinity) The chemical will degrade faster under acidic conditions, and in soils with higher moisture content and higher temperature. The chemical has a higher mobility potential in alkaline soils, due to its higher solubility.
  • Metsulfuron-methyl is stable to photolysis, but will break down in ultraviolet light. It is also stable to hydrolysis in neutral and alkaline conditions.
  • Metsulfuron-methyl is rapidly taken up by plants at the roots and on foliage. The chemical is translocated throughout the plant, but is not persistent. In tolerant plants, it is broken down to non-herbicidal products.

Safety Directions:

  • Harmful if swallowed.
  • Will irritate the eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • When opening the container and preparing spray, wear elbow-length PVC gloves and goggles.
  • If applying by hand wear cotton overalls, over normal clothing, buttoned to the neck and wrist and a washable hat and elbow length PVC gloves.
  • If product on skin, immediately wash area with soap and water.
  • If product in eyes, wash out immediately with water.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • After each day’s use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.

Protection of Livestock:

  • There is a nil withholding period for this product and stock may continue to graze where the product has been used in pasture situations.
  • It is recommended that stock are removed from the pasture for about 3 days to ensure product efficacy.
  • Certain plants such as bracken are naturally toxic to stock.
  • When toxic plants are present, it is recommended that grazing be delayed until complete browning of treated plants has occurred.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
  • For further information, refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Withholding Period

Withholding Period Details (WHP):
