Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide (Sulfometuron-Methyl) SULFOMAC-750-WG Macspred

Description

Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Sulfometuron-Methyl @ 750g/kg

Similar Or Comparable To: Oust Herbicide (Dupont), Shatter Herbicide (Apparent) & Mako Herbicide (Nufarm)

Sulfomac 750WG Herbicide is primarily a soil residual herbicide with some knockdown action.

Sulfomac 750WG Herbicide controls susceptible weeds through both post-emergence and pre-emergence (residual) action.

Sulfomac 750WG Herbicide is a broad spectrum herbicide that can be used for the control of annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds in commercial and industrial areas, rights of way including road, rail and utility lines, Eucalyptus spp. and Corymbia spp. plantations.

Sulfomac 750WG Herbicide may be applied pre-emergence or post-emergence to the weeds; best results are obtained if application is made before or during the early stages of weed growth.

Sulfomac 750WG Herbicide may be applied in non crop & industrial situations e.g. application to roadsides, fire break areas or around roadside furniture (Follow the Industrial use recommendations on the label).

Care should be taken to avoid Sulfomac application in areas where movement could cause off target damage. Under certain conditions- such as when soils are saturated with moisture or during periods of exceptionally heavy rainfall, residual herbicides may wash to non target areas.

Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide is absorbed by plants via foliage and roots and can therefore be used when weeds have emerged (post-emergence) or prior to weed emergence (pre-emergence). Soil moisture is necessary to activate uptake, and product sprayed onto dry soils or soils under drought stress will prove less than effective.

Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide can be mixed with Glyphosate herbicides when spraying established weeds to achieve a superior level of knockdown & extended residual weed control.  The compatibility of Sulfomac with other residual herbicides gives a cheap and effective solution to extending the control of some hard to kill weeds and broadening the range of species controlled. Sulfomac is also effective as a directed or shielded spray in post plant weed control operations.

Features & Benefits

  • Contains the active ingredient – Sulfometuron-Methyl.
  • Favourable environmental fate characteristics – Sulfomac degrades in the soil by both chemical and microbial processes. Does not accumulate in the environment or the food chain.
  • Minimal potential for accumulation in groundwater – Sulfomac (active ingredient sulfometuron methyl) is substantially less likely to concentrate in groundwater than other commonly used vegetation Management herbicides.
  • Performs well with a coarse spray droplet application – Helps reduce drift potential.
  • Active ingredient application reduced by 95 percent to 99 percent relative to higher use-rate products – Low dose rate reduces manufacturing and packaging waste and allows easier handling, storage and transport.
  • Works by inhibiting an enzyme only found in plants – Sulfomac is safe to the user and native animals, birds, insects and fish.
  • Variable rates  & Broad registration –  Allows flexibility in selecting the length of control and provides multiple use situations with the same product.
  • Compatible with most partner herbicides –  Sulfomac can be mixed with Glyphosate herbicides when spraying established weeds to achieve a superior level of knockdown & extended residual weed control.  The compatibility of Sulfomac with other residual herbicides gives a cheap and effective solution to extending the control of some hard to kill weeds and broadening the range of species controlled. Sulfomac is also effective as a directed or shielded spray in post plant weed control operations.

Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide should not be used in domestic situations and not in turf. If used in buffalo turf, Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide will likely kill both the buffalo and kikuyu and leave a residue in the soil, resulting in bare soil for an extended period. Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide is not a selective herbicide.

Sulfometuron-Methyl was originally designed and registered for use in commercial situations (ie Industrial land or areas & weed control around agricultural buildings) where withholding periods for animals, meat residue levels or safety to pets and livestock were not a priority.  This is why data relating to animal safety and exclusion times is not prominent on the label as it was not required when registering the product.  The inclusion of "protection of livestock, do not graze treated areas or cut for stock food." is a general statement about using caution with grazing animals around treated areas.  It is frustrating as it is not more definitive about the time required to avoid the treated area.  We recommend you speak with Macspred, the manufacturer of Sulfomac for further clarification on (03) 5335 8522.

Tips For Use

Restraints:

  • Do not spray Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide via aerial application, gas guns or mist blowers.
  • Do not store a suspension of Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide for longer than 2 days as it may degrade, particularly in acid solutions.
  • Do not store in mixtures with other products as a spray solution for More than 1 day.
  • Do not spray Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide onto any area where water movement may carry product to off target areas eg Drainage ditches and channels.
  • Do not spray Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide during heavy rain or during periods when heavy rain is forecast.
  • Do not apply to or spray on soils saturated with water

Use of Wetting Agents / Surfactants:

  • Always add a non-ionic wetting agent/surfactant at the rate of 0.25% v/v of 100% active product if Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide is used alone.
  • If Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide is used in a tank mix with Glyphosate which already contains a wetting agent then no wetting agent is required.

Application Equipment:

  • Only Ground Boom and Handgun/Knapsack are recommended.

Boom Equipment

Apply product(s) in a minimum of 50 litres of water per sprayed hectare. Calibrate equipment to a suitable constant working speed.

Knapsack/Hangun

Apply product in 1000 – 2000 litres of water per sprayed hectare ensuring wetting to point of runoff. NB. Spray equipment should be dedicated to non-crop activities to avoid residues effecting desirable plants in other spray activities.

Spray Tank Preparation:

Having established the rate of product/ha required by referring to the preceding instructions:

  1. Establish what area the spray tank will cover based on a minimum of 50 litres of water per hectare.
  2. When this is done measure out the correct amount of product to go in the spray tank by pouring the “sand-like” formulation into the measuring cylinder which is calibrated in grams. Tap the side of the cylinder, so that product settles with a level surface.
  3. Partially fill the spray tank and engage agitator.
  4. Add the measured amount of product to the tank.
  5. Add the rest of the water to bring up to correct volume. Keep the agitator running.
  6. Only use the calibration cylinder provided to measure this product.

Do not use a wetting agent if product is being mixed with products that already have a wetting agent incorporated in their formulation.

If mixing with other products ensure the Sulfomac 750 WG Herbicide is in suspension prior to the other product being added.

Thoroughly re-agitate if for some reason the spray mix has been allowed to stand.

Protection of Crops, Native and Other Non-Target Plants:

  • Do not under meteorological conditions or from spraying equipment, which could be expected to cause drift onto nearby susceptible plants, adjacent crops, crop lands or pastures.
  • As desirable plants could be affected by root uptake ensure that any emptying, draining or flushing operations are not carried out in the vicinity of such plants.
  • Do not contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the chemical or used containers.

Safety Directions:

  • Will irritate the nose and throat and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Do not inhale dust or spray mist.
  • If product in eyes, wash it out immediately with water.
  • When opening the container and preparing product for use wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), elbow-length chemical resistant gloves, goggles and half facepiece respirator.
  • When using the prepared spray wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and elbow-length chemical resistant gloves.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • After each days use, wash gloves, goggles and respirator and if rubber wash with detergent and warm water contaminated clothing.
