Why is GRO Wound Relief and Repair important to your cattle herd;

  • Wound Relief: Pain relief helps with the recovery process by helping to protect the body from feeling pain. The sooner pain relief is applied to a wound, the less inflation and the less sensitive the wound becomes. In the longer term, it has been scientifically proven that being exposed to strong pain can lead to a higher level of sensitivity to pain in the future throughout life. Pain relief plays a significant part in avoiding this and also helps to return to normality sooner after a wound is caused.
  • Reduced Bleeding: By reducing the bleeding, the risk of the adverse and sometimes fatal effects of blood loss can be avoided. Excessive bleeding from a wound can cause a lowering of blood pressure. This can lead to dizziness, tiredness and shortness of breath. In extreme situations, blood loss can cause death. Blood can also attract flys and other insects to the wound, increasing the risk of infection in the wound area.
  • Wound & Skin Tissue Healing: By decreasing wound healing time, cattle can return to normal life more quickly. It also means that the amount of time which a wound is at risk of becoming infected is reduced
  • Anti-inflammatory: Inflammation is a body’s natural response to a wound when it occurs. It makes a wound more sensitive to pain, which means more pain is experienced. By protecting a wound from inflammation, less pain is experienced overall, and cattle will return to normal life more quickly.
  • Insect Repellent: Fly and other insects, if attracted to an open wound, can cause significant irritation to the animal. As a minimum, this irritation can cause unnessary stress to the animal. In addition to this, the irritation may cause the animal to scratch or rub a partially healed wound, which in turn may cause the wound to be re-opened and to be more susceptible to infection.
  • Aromatic Calming: The marking and branding of livestock can be very stressful for both the animals and the people involved in the process. It is believed that the aromas which are difused from the application of the product provide aromatic calming. This calming should lead to animals being less stressed. It is also possible that the working environment is also improved for humans due to the aromatic calming effects of GRO Wound Relief and Repair.
  • Antimicrobial, Antibacterial and Antifungal: By applying these anti-infection substances to the open wound at the time of the operation they can help provide protection from infection immediately. Along with the animal’s own natural immune defences, these substances can help to ensure that the wound healing process begins without the complications of infection
  • Antiseptic: The substances in GRO Wound Relief and Repair help to cleanse the wound of any germs or foregn particles that may cause the wound to heal more slowly or become infected. The sooner the wound heals, the sooner the animal is able to return to normality sooner after a wound is caused.
  • Skin Tissue Healing: Substances that help to promote skin healing can help to ensure that the natural barrier that has been removed through the surgical procedure is reformed and fully repaired more quickly
  • Increased Immune Response: The immune system is the animal’s natural protection system against disease and infection. Some substances, when introduced to the body, can help to protect the body by providing a protective barrier, or they can boost the body’s natural ability to fight off disease-promoting free radicals. Generally, the stronger the immune system, the healthier and more productive an animal will be.

Application Instructions;

  • Shake the product well before use, especially if the bottle has been sitting for a period of time.
  • Regular short shakes of the bottle during usage will ensure that all ingredients remain properly mixed and are applied at the appropriate proportions.
  • Adjust the size of the spray cone to suit your requirements.
  • The conical spray pattern should be wide enough to cover the whole wound and the area immediately surrounding the wound.
  • The spray cone can be adjusted by twisting the spray nozzle either clockwise (wider cone) or counterclockwise (narrower cone).
  • One full trigger squeeze will apply 3.5mL of GRO to each wound.
  • Hold the applicator nozzle close enough to the wounds to ensure that the product covers the entire wound and the surrounding area. This ensures full coverage of nerve endings and blood vessels, providing maximum relief and protection.
  • If full coverage is not achieved with one trigger spray in any circumstance, apply a second trigger spray.
  • Do not touch the wound with the applicator or your hands during the process.

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • For best results, apply the product immediately after completing the surgical procedure.
  • The shorter the time period between the wound being created and the product being applied, the better the level of relief experienced by the animal.
  • When using a surgical procedure that results in significant bleeding, the sooner the application of the product the greater the effectiveness of the reduced bleeding aspects of the product.

Dehorning and Disbudding Wounds:

  • Dehorn or disbud the horn as normal using either surgical technique or hot iron.
  • Apply the correct dose by spraying one (1) full trigger squeeze to each horn wound.
  • The dose rate has been calculated to ensure that the whole area of the wound is able to be effectively covered by the product.
  • One full trigger squeeze will apply 3.5ml of the product to the wound, meaning that all ingredients will be applied at the required concentration to have the full effect.
  • Hold the applicator nozzle close enough to the wounds to ensure that the product covers the entire wound and the area around it.
  • This will ensure that all exposed blood vessels and nerve endings are treated and maximum relief and protection is achieved.
  • Ensure that the entire wound is covered and that most of the product is in the area of the wound.
  • Do not touch the wound with the applicator or your hands during the application process.
  • This is an oil-based formulation and should be expected to migrate to some degree around the treated area, hence helping with coverage.

Castration Wounds:

  • Fully castrate the animal as usual.
  • Immediately after the second testicle has been removed, apply one full squeeze of the application trigger directly to the wounds at the bottom of the scrotum.
  • Hold the applicator nozzle close enough to the incision wounds to ensure that the product impacts the wound area with some force.
  • This will help for some of the product to enter the scrotum.
  • Ensure that the entire wound is covered and that most of the product is in the area of the wound.
  • Do not touch the wound with the applicator or your hands during the application process.
  • This is an oil-based formulation and should be expected to migrate to some degree around the treated area, hence helping with coverage.

Branding Wounds:

  • Brand the animal as usual.
  • Apply the product immediately after the branding process is completed so that the entire branded area is covered, including the area immediately around the outside of the brand.
  • Due to the significant variations in the size of branding wounds, it may be necessary to apply more than one full spray of the product to ensure the wound is covered.
  • A minimum of one full spray (3.5ml) should be applied to each brand.
  • In most cases, a maximum of two full sprays (7ml) will be required to treat the branding wound.

Ear Marking Wounds:

  • Earmark the animal as per the normal procedure.
  • Apply a short spray of the product over the wound, ensuring it covers the entire incision and the surrounding area.
  • The maximum volume of product required is one (one) full trigger spray. However, this amount is not always necessary for this procedure.

Accidental Wound Care:

  • The nature of accidental wounds can be infinitely varied, and the product should not be used to replace the advice of a Veterinarian.
  • Severe wounds that would ordinarily be referred to a veterinarian should always be dealt with in this way.
  • For smaller, less serious scrapes and cuts, this product may provide some relief to the wound, may assist with the reduction of bleeding and could help to protect the wound from infection.
  • The minimum quantity to be applied to any wound is 3.5ml, one full trigger squeeze of the applicator.
  • For wounds that cannot be fully covered by 3.5ml, apply more product, however, do not apply to runoff.
  • Accidental wound treatment results may vary based on the time between the wound occurring, the treatment being applied and the severity of the wound.

Storage:

  • Store any unused product in a cool, dark, dry location in its original container, away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not refrigerate the product during storage.
  • Wherever possible, avoid removing the spray nozzle from the bottle as this may allow the introduction of contaminants, which in turn could lead to wound infections after application of the product.
  • Be very careful not to introduce any water to the container, as this may cause the product to become rancid and ineffective.
  • For best results, do not decant the product from its original container, as this may lead to the introduction of contaminants.
  • If transferring a spray nozzle from one container to another, be very careful not to contaminate the new container with any foreign material or substance.

Shelf Life:

  • The product is currently manufactured with a shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture.
  • When stored correctly and without the introduction of contaminants, the product will remain effective until the expiry date is reached.

Safety:

  • Do not ingest.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.
  • For external use only.
  • Do not use it for any other purpose.
  • For animal treatment only.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
