AC Backrub Oil (Paraffin Oil) BACKRUB-OIL AC Backrubs

Description

AC Backrub Oil (Paraffin Oil)

Ingredient: Paraffin Oil

  • AC Backrub Paraffin Oil is for use as backrub carrier oil to be used with a registered buffalo fly treatment that allows livestock to graze free from flying, biting parasites.
  • AC Backrub Paraffin Oil has additives to stop the oil from going thin and dripping out in the middle of the day when it gets hot.  It is made from ‘new’ oil with additives to ensure it retains its viscosity in the heat as well as making it tacky so it will not drop from the backrub,
  • The AC Backrub Paraffin Oil carrier allows the oil/chemical mix or organic solution to be evenly distributed as cattle rub themselves against the backrub.
  • AC Backrub Paraffin Oil is specially formulated for use on backrubs as a carrier only.  A registered buffalo fly control product must be added.

Why Use Ac Backrub Paraffin Oil Instead of Other Oils?

In the past graziers have reused sump oil and diesel mix with insecticide. That would work well but left the cattle marked and their hides “stained” and was contaminating the meat.

When vegetable oil and insecticide mix was tried, the cattle loved it and commenced to lick the mixture off each other and the backrubs, when the cattle could not lick any more oil off the backrubs they started chewing them up.  As the vegetable oil carried the insecticide it went straight through the cattle and the active ingredients killed off a large percentage of the dung beetle. With the cattle overdosing on insecticide the dung beetle population depleted.

Buffalo flies irritate cattle, interrupt feeding and cause sores, especially when infestations are high. Trials in the wet tropics have shown that buffalo fly can reduce beef cattle production by up to 16%.  A small parasitic worm (Stephanofilaria spp.) is associated with buffalo fly bites and causes skin lesions. Sores from buffalo fly infestations result in permanent hide damage, decreasing the value of the hide. These lesions may also restrict access to the live export trade. Dark-coated cattle, bulls, older cattle and those in poor condition usually attract the heaviest infestations of fly. Bos Indicus cattle seem to carry high numbers but do not appear to be as severely affected as other breeds.
