AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide

AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide is a liquid copper-based treatment for blue-green algae in farm dams, irrigation channels and other large water bodies.

It suits producers who need a fast-dispersing algaecide rather than traditional copper sulphate crystals that settle on the bottom. The 226 g/L copper sulfate pentahydrate formulation delivers 60 g/L bioavailable copper, so growers use less product per treatment than older crystal-based options. Apply it directly to farm dams, irrigation canals, ornamental lakes, raceways, fish ponds and potable water supplies, or use it as a preventative or remedial spray in aerial-sown and drill-sown rice.

Pack Sizes: 5 litres. Registrant: Earth Science Laboratories International (distributed by Indigo Specialty Products) (APVMA #: 89177/151938)

AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide AGRITEC-COPPER-SULFATE Indigo Specialty Products

Description

AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide controls blue-green algae in farm dams, irrigation channels and other large water bodies. Indigo Specialty Products supplies this liquid algaecide at 226 g/L copper sulfate pentahydrate. This formulation delivers 60 g/L bioavailable copper. AgriTec also contains 56 g/L sulfuric acid, which keeps the copper in solution. As a result, it disperses through the water column instead of settling on the bottom. Traditional copper sulphate crystals settle on the bottom instead.

Farmers apply AgriTec to eliminate free-floating algae such as Euglena and Microcystis. It also controls filamentous algae such as Spirogyra and Cladophora, plus Chara algae. According to the product’s APVMA host and pest registration, AgriTec controls diatoms too, including Cyclotella stelligera. It controls cyanobacteria and green algae as well. Growers use it in farm dams, ponds, irrigation canals and ornamental lakes. It also suits industrial ponds, raceways, fish ponds, fish hatcheries and potable water supplies. In addition, it works as a preventative or remedial treatment for blue-green algae in aerial sown and drill sown rice. Most treatments show visible results within 7 to 10 days. Consequently, Specialist Sales stocks AgriTec as a practical, dependable option for producers managing recurring algal blooms.

How AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide Works

AgriTec disperses without agitation. As a result, it reaches algae growing in the first metre of water without heavy equipment or spray gear. You pour it directly into the water, or dose it through an automated dispenser calibrated to the required rate. This makes AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide a lower-labour option. Granular copper sulphate treatments need manual distribution across the water surface instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What does AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide control?

A. AgriTec controls blue-green algae and related algal species in farm dams and waterways. It targets free-floating algae such as Euglena and Microcystis, filamentous algae such as Spirogyra and Cladophora, and Chara algae. It also controls blue-green algae in aerial sown and drill sown rice.

Q. How much AgriTec do I add to a farm dam?

A. The dose rate depends on water depth and the target copper concentration. For a 30 cm deep dam treated at 0.5 mg/L copper, apply 2.5 litres per 1000 square metres. Always refer to the full dilution table on the current product label before mixing.

Q. Is there a withholding period for AgriTec?

A. No withholding period applies when you use AgriTec as directed. Stock and irrigation water remain usable once algae control is achieved. Always check the current label for any updates.

Q. How long does AgriTec take to work?

A. Growers typically see results within 7 to 10 days of application. Heavily infested water may need a repeat treatment after 10 to 14 days. For best results, apply on a calm, wind-free day.

Q. Can I use AgriTec near fish and livestock?

A. Use AgriTec with caution around native fish and crustaceans, since it may be toxic even in hard water. Do not treat water containing trout if the water is soft or below 16 degrees Celsius. Water treated with AgriTec does not affect swimming, fishing or stock access.

Q. Is AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide comparable to WSD Trough Blox?

A. Not directly. Both products use copper sulfate as the active constituent. AgriTec is a liquid concentrate at 226 g/L copper sulfate pentahydrate, giving 60 g/L copper. Producers use it in farm dams, irrigation channels and rice paddies. WSD Trough Blox is a solid 200-gram block at 63 g/kg copper sulfate. It controls algae in stock water troughs instead. The formulation and the scale of water body each product treats are the main differences. WSD Trough Blox is registered to WSD Agribusiness Pty Ltd under APVMA number 42131, a separate registration from AgriTec. Always compare both labels before choosing between them.

Directions Of Use

Click here for AgriTec Copper Sulfate Aquatic Algaecide directions for use.

General Instructions:

  • AgriTec eliminates a broad range of algae and controls the growth of resistant species.
  • Pour it manually into the water after calculating the volume to be treated, or dispense it through an automated dispenser calibrated to release the correct amount.
  • Treat shoreline areas first to avoid trapping fish in the shallows, and allow 10 to 15 days for oxygen levels to recover before continuing treatment.
  • Apply on a calm, wind-free day, in bright sunlight, when algae are first evident, and remove any large floating mats of algae before treating.

Dose Rate Table:

Situation Pest Dose Rate (mg/L Copper) Critical Comments
Farm dams and ponds, irrigation canals, ornamental lakes, industrial ponds, raceways, fish ponds, fish hatcheries and potable water supplies, excluding rivers, streams, creeks, billabongs, lakes or wetlands 1. Free floating algae (Euglena, Microcystis, Aphanizomenon, Oscillatoria, Dictyosphaerium, Anabaena) 0.06 – 0.5 Apply in bright sunlight when algae are first evident. Remove large floating mats before applying. Apply only on a calm, wind-free day to the water surface.
2. Filamentous algae (Spirogyra, Chlorella, Hydrodictyon, Cladophora, Oedogonium) 0.06 – 1 If heavily infested, re-treat after 10 to 14 days as necessary.
3. Chara algae 0.06 – 1 As above.
Aerial sown rice (preventative) Blue-green algae 3.6 L/ha (water depth to 10 cm); 5.4 L/ha (10 to 15 cm); 7.1 L/ha (over 15 cm) Apply 7 to 10 days after sowing as a sole spray or in tank mix with standard herbicide treatments. As a sole spray, use not less than 20 litres of water per litre of AgriTec. Lower rates in deepwater conditions will inhibit results.
Rice, aerial and drill sown (remedial) Blue-green algae 3.6 – 8.9 L/ha Use lower rates in shallow water when algal filaments first appear. Use higher rates in deep water or where bloom is smothering emerging rice seedlings.

Dilution Rate (amount of AgriTec per 1000 square metres):

Average Water Depth 0.06 mg/L Cu 0.2 mg/L Cu 0.5 mg/L Cu 1.0 mg/L Cu
