ZTags No-Fade Tag Pen provides durable, visible marking particularly on ZTags visual livestock tags.

The ZTags No-Fade Tag Pen is a black marker that is available in both fine and broad tips.

Clearly marking visual livestock tags has business benefits by enabling livestock to be identified on-farm, leading to improved management.  Using marking systems is an effective way to record and track animal data.  It also proves ownership that can be useful if your animals graze at distance and are at risk of being stolen or becoming lost.  In large herds, they help producers tell one animal from another.

While there are many numbering systems, one of the most common systems uses a combination of numbers and letters designating the year of birth and birth order. Be careful of using letters that look like numbers—avoid O, Q, V, and I— and combine the remaining 22 letters with numbers to create the livestock marking system. Assign the birth year a letter, say A=2019. Then, assign a number to the animal in order of birth. So, A0022 would mean the fifteenth animal born in 2019.  C0007 would mean the seventh animal born in 2021, etc. Using this system, you’re sure to not replicate an animal number over a 22-year span.

To Start Ink Flow: To start writing, prime the pen by holding it vertically while pumping the tip onto a scrap of paper.  When ready, the tip will be completely saturated.

To Mark Tags: The internal valve should be kept partially open by applying slight, constant pressure on the top. This allows the optimum amount of into to flow through the fibre and etch into the surface of the tag.

Write number or letter twice (allow sufficient drying time between) to ensure optimum ink deposit for long life identification.  Be sure to write the numbers and letters slowly.  Insufficient ink will cause marking to fade prematurely.  The ink in the ZTags No-Fade Tag Pen reservoir will not dry out.

Changing Fine & Broad Tips:  To prevent ink stains on your fingers, use a thickness of scrap cloth or paper to pull the used top up and out. Push the replacement tip down into place in the barrel.

Note:  Should ink from the ZTags No-Fade Tag Pen inadvertently contact other surfaces it may be removed in most instances with Ethanol (C₂H₅OH).  Always check the solvent does not damage the material/surface before applying.
