Description

Coopers Blowfly and Lice Jetting Fluid

Active Ingredient: Ivermectin @ 16g/L

Similar Or Comparable to Jet Away Blowfly & Lice Jetting Fluid  (Apparent) and Akula Concentrate for Lice, Fly and Worms (Zagro).

Coopers Blowfly and Lice is used to treat and prevent blowfly strike and control lice in long wool. It is indicated for the treatment of, and protection against, blowfly strike on sheep for up to 12 weeks and treatment of biting lice by jetting in long woolled sheep.

Coopers Blowfly & Lice is a concentrate for use in sheep of all ages. The product is not to be used undiluted.

The 16.0 g/L Ivermectin concentrate is diluted 1:500 and applied by jetting for the treatment of, and protection against, sheep blowfly strike and by hand jetting for long-wool lice treatment.

Indications for Coopers Blowfly and Lice:

  • Jetting For Blowfly Strike: When applied as directed by hand-jetting or by modified Harrington jetting race this product protects sheep against strike by blowflies (Lucilia cuprina, L. sericata, Chrysomya rufifacies and Calliphora nociva) (including OP resistant strains of Lucilia cuprina) for 12 weeks under low to moderate fly pressure and will control maggots in existing strikes in the treated areas.
  • Hand Dressing Of Struck Sheep: This product can be applied at the blowfly dilution rate for the treatment of blowfly strike wounds. Sheep should be sheared/clipped around the strike wound before saturating the area.
  • Hand Jetting For Lice: When applied as directed by hand-jetting this product also treats biting lice (Bovicola ovis), including synthetic pyrethroid-resistant strains in long woolled sheep until the next shearing.

Why choose Coopers Blowfly and Lice;

  • Contains the active ingredient Ivermectin – Highly effective with a favourable safety profile. No known resistance within Australia in either blowfly or sheep biting louse.
  • Rapid knockdown of maggots on struck sheep – Strikes are resolved quickly after treatment.
  • Protects sheep against blowfly strike for up to 12 weeks – Peace of mind that sheep are protected with low to moderate fly situations.
  • Controls lice in long wool sheep (when applied as directed by hand jetting) – Lice control that provides relief from lice irritation for sheep.
  • Rainfast – Moderate rainfall does not affect efficacy.

How to effectively manage lice in sheep;

  • Shear and treat all sheep at one time.
  • Ensure sheep are cleanly shorn.
  • Always read the label and treat animals in accordance with label directions.
  • Treat sheep at the right time.
  • Administer the product with the correct applicator.
  • Apply the product correctly.
  • Ensure the correct treatment of ewes and lambs.
  • Do not mix treated sheep with untreated sheep.
  • Ensure fencing is stock-proof.
  • Prevent re-infestation of lice by quarantining introduced sheep until it is certain they are lice free. It is preferable to quarantine introduced sheep until they can be shorn and treated at shearing time.

Cooper's Blowfly and Lice is only registered to control flies on sheep.  For the control of fly on horses, we recommend Cooper's Easy-Dose Pour-on Cattle Lice And Fly Treatment, Imperial Pour-On Fly and Lice Treatment For Cattle And Horses, Swat Insecticide for Horses, or Y-Tex Brute Insecticide for Horses.

As Coopers Blowfly and Lice has a Withholding Period (WHP) for the Wool Harvesting Interval that states, "do not use less than 6-weeks before shearing or fibre collection", it is not recommended to use the product within a week of crutching, if the wool from the crunching is to be collected and sold.

The active ingredient of Coopers Blowfly and Lice is Ivermectin, which dramatically strips if used in a recycling dip & therefore, should never be used if recycling occurs.

The Coopers Blowfly & Lice label does not claim to eradicate lice in long wooled sheep completely.  It does reduce the burden of lice infestation considerably (>95%) and is a prevalent & effective treatment to get long wooled sheep with lice through to shearing.  As lice only lay an egg every 2-3 days, the increase in population after treatment is relatively slow.  Blowfly and Lice is a contact only treatment and does not offer residual control claims.  Unlike drenches, the active ingredient Ivermectin, when applied by hand jetting, is not absorbed into the animal for ongoing protection against parasites.  As with all lice treatments, a strategy including clean mustering & correct treatments at the right time is vital for effective lice control.

Tips For Use

Note:

  • Check the sheep to ensure wetting to skin level after jetting.
  • Efficacy may be reduced if sheep are not treated as directed.
  • When used as directed by jetting, Coopers Blowfly & Lice has a wide safety margin in sheep and may be used in breeding animals.
  • When applied as directed Coopers Blowfly & Lice will not damage fleece or skin.
  • Season, weather conditions, sheep type, wool length and condition, soiling with faeces and urine and any concurrent skin or fleece diseases such as fleece rot, mycotic dermatitis and other infections or wounds will influence the susceptibility of sheep to flystrike.
  • Thorough wetting of those sites most attractive to flies is the most effective way to prevent blowfly strike.
  • Hand jetting is recommended to ensure adequate wetting.
  • Jetting races have varying abilities to saturate the fleece so the duration of protection may be shorter than with hand jetting.
  • Jetting races or other jetting equipment which recycles the jetting fluid should not be used to apply Coopers Blowfly & Lice.
  • When applied as directed by hand jetting, exposure to moderate rainfall does not have any adverse effect on the efficacy of Coopers Blowfly & Lice.
  • If the sheep need to be handled for other management procedures, it is recommended that use of Coopers Blowfly & Lice is the final activity carried out.
  • Storage at low temperatures (<4Ëš C) may result in the formation of small crystals in Coopers Blowfly & Lice which will redissolve on dilution and will not affect the efficacy or safety of the product.

Safety Directions:

  • Poisonous if swallowed.
  • Repeated exposure may cause allergic disorders.
  • Sensitive workers should use protective clothing.
  • When preparing products for use, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and elbow-length gloves.
