ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator

ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator is a systemic plant growth regulator that suppresses Bahia grass and Kikuyu growth in low-maintenance grassed and turfed areas.

Councils, contractors, and land managers use it on fencelines, industrial sites (incl., solar farms), roadsides, rail corridors, and rights-of-way, particularly where mowing access is limited. The 270 g/L Maleic Hydrazide active absorbs through the leaf and interferes with cell division, so vertical growth and seedhead formation slow for 12 to 16 weeks per application. This reduces mowing frequency, supports soil stabilisation, and lowers site maintenance costs compared with repeated slashing or herbicide programs.

ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator PADRE-270 Indigo Specialty Products

Description

ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator controls Bahia grass and Kikuyu growth in low-maintenance grassed and turfed areas. This Bahia grass growth regulator also suppresses seedhead formation in both species. It contains 270 g/L Maleic Hydrazide, present as a potassium salt. Indigo Specialty Products Pty Ltd registers Padre 270 for fencelines, industrial sites, roadsides, rail corridors and rights-of-way. Consequently, councils, contractors and land managers reach for Padre 270 when mowing access is difficult. It also suits sites where frequent slashing drives up labour and equipment costs.

The active ingredient absorbs through the leaf and moves systemically through the plant. As a result, it interferes with cell division in shoot tips and seed head primordia. Vertical shoot elongation slows, and seed stalks fail to form. Grass swards therefore stay tidier for longer. Growth suppression typically lasts 12 to 16 weeks. Consequently, treated sites need fewer mowing passes, and they hold their soil-stabilising ground cover for longer between visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What weeds and grasses does ProForce Padre 270 control?

A. ProForce Padre 270 suppresses Bahia grass growth and seedhead formation, plus Kikuyu growth, in low-maintenance grassed and turfed situations.

Q. How long does one application last?

A. One application suppresses growth for 12 to 16 weeks. Reapply at 8 to 14 week intervals if continued suppression is required.

Q. Can operators mow before or after spraying?

A. Yes, but operators must apply Padre 270 at least 12 hours before or after mowing. The grass sward also needs to be actively growing at the time of application.

Q. Why does a growth regulator suit solar farm sites better than mowing?

A. Solar farms often carry rows of panels that limit machinery access and create tripping and shading hazards during mowing. Padre 270 reduces vertical growth and seedhead formation for 12 to 16 weeks per application. As a result, ground crews spend less time mowing between and under the panel rows. This also lowers the fire fuel load that tall, dry grass can create around electrical infrastructure.

Q. Does Padre 270 replace herbicide treatment?

A. No, it works differently to a herbicide. Instead, it regulates grass growth rather than killing the plant. This stabilises soil and cuts mowing costs without removing ground cover.

Q. What water volume suits boom application?

A. Boom application requires 100 to 500 L per hectare of water through flat fan nozzles. Turbo Teejet or AIXR Teejet 11004 or 11005 nozzles at 8 km/h and 3 bar pressure deliver the best coverage.

Directions Of Use

Click here for ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator directions for use.

General Instructions

ProForce Padre 270 Plant Growth Regulator reduces growth of Bahia grass and Kikuyu in low-maintenance grassed areas for 12 to 16 weeks. Regulating growth this way, instead of applying herbicidal treatments, stabilises soil more effectively, reduces seed stalk, seedhead and leaf production, and extends the interval before the grass sward breaches mowing height. This lowers mechanical mowing requirements, particularly in difficult-to-access areas. To maximise performance, apply to grass or turf that is green, actively growing, and free of leaf litter or other debris that would block spray contact. Mix the required quantity of Padre 270 into water in the spray tank and mix thoroughly before application.

Application Rate Table

Situation Target High Volume Spray / 100 L water (Handgun) Low Volume Spray / ha (Boom) Knapsack Application / 100 m²
Low maintenance grassed and turfed areas, fencelines, industrial areas, non-crop situations, roadside, rail and rights-of-way Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) suppression and seedhead control, Kikuyu 600 mL to 1.25 L 6 to 12.5 L 60 to 125 mL

Boom application: Apply in 100 to 500 L/ha of water using flat fan nozzles. Ensure thorough, even coverage of the leaves and penetration to the crowns, since higher cut grass areas can shield the target from spray. Turbo Teejet or AIXR Teejet 11004 or 11005 nozzles at 8 km/h and 3 bar pressure give the best results. Keep boom height at or below 50 cm above the ground.

  • Knapsack application: Apply between 2 and 10 L of water per 100 m² of grassed surface, using flat fan nozzles to ensure even coverage.
  • Handgun application: Apply 1000 L of spray volume per hectare.

Re-Treatment Interval

  • Reapply at 8 to 14 week intervals as required.

Critical Comments

  • Apply Padre 270 at least 12 hours before or after mowing and when the grass sward is actively growing.
  • Avoid rainfall or irrigation for 24 hours after application, as much as possible.
  • Use the lower rates on grass species with moderate growth rates where a lower level of growth reduction is required, or when using Padre 270 as part of a program.
  • Apply rates towards the higher end of the range when growth is vigorous or when longer suppression periods are required.
  • A commercial non-ionic surfactant improves spray coverage and translocation.
  • Where broadleaf weed growth is a problem, tank mix Padre 270 with a suitable broadleaf weed herbicide.
