Sharpen Herbicide

Sharpen Herbicide is for the control of a range of broadleaf weeds prior to establishment of crops and forestry plantations, fallows, established citrus, pome and almond orchards, and around commercial, industrial, and agricultural buildings and yards, on established lucerne crops, in rice, harvest-aid application in pulse crops, and late application in cereals.

Sharpen is a powerful knockdown herbicide that can be used to replace or reinforce the effectiveness of glyphosate. Use the fast and robust systemic activity of Sharpen – standalone or tank-mixed – to give each spray an extra cutting edge and quickly knock down young problem broadleaf weeds like fleabane and sowthistle.

Description

Sharpen Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Saflufenacil @ 700g/kg

Sharpen Herbicide is for the control of a range of broadleaf weeds prior to the establishment of crops and forestry plantations, fallows, established citrus, pome and almond orchards, and around commercial, industrial, and agricultural buildings and yards, on established lucerne crops, in rice, harvest-aid application in pulse crops, and late application in cereals.

Sharpen Herbicide is a powerful knockdown herbicide that can be used to replace or reinforce the effectiveness of glyphosate in different use patterns all year round.

Sharpen provides excellent weed control to maximise moisture retention in fallow.  Use the fast and robust systemic activity of Sharpen – standalone or tank-mixed – to give each spray an extra cutting edge and quickly knock down young problem broadleaf weeds like fleabane and sowthistle.

Using Sharpen Herbicide provides fast pre-sowing knockdown of broadleaf weeds, including hard-to-kill species like fleabane, sowthistle (milk thistle) and prickly lettuce.  Enormous reductions in the amount of seed set by wild radish and 6 other broadleaf weeds in winter cereal crops before harvest.

Sharpen Herbicide provides rapid and thorough desiccation of chickpeas and other pulse crops to streamline harvesting plus excellent fallow establishment and maintenance through fast knockdown of 32 broadleaf weeds.   Use Sharpen for efficient ‘winter cleaning’ of established lucerne and the clean-up of broadleaf weeds in established almond, citrus and pome orchards and around farm buildings

Sharpen Herbicide is a fast-acting contact herbicide and aids in the control of weeds through a process of membrane disruption.  The foliar uptake of Sharpen Herbicide is rapid and plant desiccation can occur within 4 days of application.  Application of Sharpen Herbicide should target small actively growing weeds.  Subsequent germinations will not be controlled.  Sharpen Herbicide is rapidly absorbed through the foliage of plants.  Within a few hours following application, the foliage of susceptible weeds will show signs of desiccation, and in subsequent days necrosis and death of the plant.

Features & Benefits

  • Contains the active ingredient Saflufenacil.
  • Rapid burndown within 72 hours of application helps conserve moisture.
  • Control of 32 weeds standalone + 14 more in tank mixes.
  • Robust performance on hard-to-control broadleaf weeds.
  • The only Group G product with systemic activity.
  • Tank-mixes with glyphosate & paraquat boost their speed and spectrum of control.
  • Reduces reliance on glyphosate, easing resistance pressure.
  • Ideal for use in double-knock spray programs.
  • Short plant backs to key winter and summer rotational crops.
  • Fast broadleaf weed control prior to sowing certain grain crops and pastures, in fallow and in established lucerne crops.
  • Targeted problem-solving from fallow to harvest.
  • Reduces the reliance on glyphosate.
  • Streamline harvesting with rapid desiccation of pulse crops.
  • The only Group 14 (formerly Group G) herbicide that provides standalone control of 32 broadleaf weeds, reducing the dependency on glyphosate.
  • Tank-mixes with either glyphosate or paraquat control an additional 14 grass and broadleaf weeds.
  • Suitable for spraying in drift-sensitive areas such as near broadleaf crops (e.g. cotton) because of its low volatility.
  • Mixing Sharpen with glyphosate or paraquat helps to achieve higher levels of weed control and ultimately helps reduce the weed seed bank.  Up to 90% reduction of viable wild radish seeds.

Directions Of Use

General Rate: 17–34 g/ha + 1% v/v high quality MSO (ie Hasten).

  • Refer to the label for recommended use rates for targeted weeds.
  • Most broadleaf weeds can be controlled at 17–26 g/ha, but more hard-to-control and older weeds should be treated at 26–34 g/ha.

Timing:

  • The application should be made to small, actively growing weeds.
  • The best control is achieved when weeds are exposed and are not shielded by other weeds and/or stubble.
  • Problem broadleaf weeds that have germinated are easiest to control while in the small rosette growth stage.
  • Refer to the label for ideal weed size targets.

In most situations, Sharpen should be applied with a conventional boom sprayer with mechanical or bypass agitation in 80–250 L/ha water. Use higher water volumes if the weed infestation is dense or as weeds increase in size. Refer to label for further details.

Rates are a general guide only. Before opening, carefully read Sharpen Herbicide directions for use, precautionary and protection statements, storage and disposal, safety directions and first aid instructions.

Questions and answers from customers

How long after application of Sharpen Herbicide can I return my horses to the pasture?

  1. Q How long after application of Sharpen Herbicide can I return my horses to the pasture?
Asked by Katherine on July 29, 2023 8:48 am
    Answered by the admin

The Australian government's agricultural chemical regulator, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), recommends that horses be kept off pastures treated with Shapen Herbicide for at least 48 hours after application. This allows the herbicide to break down and dissipate before the horses come into contact with it. However, it is important to note that the time it takes for Shapen Herbicide to break down and dissipate will vary depending on many factors, including the weather conditions, the type of soil, and the amount of herbicide applied. Therefore, it is always best to err on the side of caution and wait at least 48 hours before allowing horses back on treated pastures. If any livestock are planned for slaughter (domestic or export), strict withholding periods range from 1 week to 8 weeks. These details are available on the product's directions for use label. Also, bear in mind that certain weeds may also become toxic once they have been sprayed.

Mixing:

  • Add half the required volume of water to spray tank and start agitation. Add the measured amount of Sharpen Herbicide and allow product to disperse.
  • Add any partner SC or WG herbicide next if it should be added, before an EC.
  • Add balance of water to tank and add Hasten Spray Adjuvant or a high quality methylated seed oil (mso) at 1%. Maintain good agitation at all times until spraying is completed.
