Sledge Herbicide (Pyraflufen-Ethyl)

Sledge Herbicide Pyraflufen-Ethyl is a Group 14 contact herbicide containing 25 g/L pyraflufen-ethyl. It improves the brownout of broadleaf and grass weeds when added to glyphosate or paraquat knockdowns.

Growers use it before sowing winter or summer crops and when starting a fallow. In cotton, it also controls volunteer seedlings, defoliates plants and accelerates boll opening. Because it acts by contact, thorough coverage and higher water volumes improve the result. This makes Sledge a fast, reliable partner for fallow knockdowns and cotton defoliation.

Sledge Herbicide (Pyraflufen-Ethyl) SLEDGE Sipcam

Description

Sledge Herbicide Pyraflufen-Ethyl contains 25 g/L pyraflufen-ethyl, a Group 14 contact herbicide. Sipcam Pacific Australia formulates it to improve the brownout of broadleaf and grass weeds. Growers add it to glyphosate or paraquat knockdowns before sowing winter or summer crops. As a result, weeds brown out faster and control improves in fallow situations.

The herbicide also controls volunteer cotton seedlings and works as a cotton defoliant. In cotton, it accelerates boll opening when tank mixed with ethephon and a spray oil. Because Sledge acts by contact, thorough coverage drives the result. Therefore, growers apply it in higher water volumes for even coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Q. How does Sledge Herbicide Pyraflufen-Ethyl work?

A. Sledge works by contact action. The active pyraflufen-ethyl inhibits the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase. This disrupts the cell membranes of the target weed. Consequently, visible brownout appears within 2 to 7 days.

Q. What does Sledge Herbicide control?

A. Sledge improves the brownout of a range of broadleaf and grass weeds. It also controls volunteer cotton seedlings, including Roundup Ready cotton. In addition, it defoliates cotton plants and speeds boll opening before harvest.

Q. Can I apply Sledge on its own?

A. No. The label states DO NOT apply alone. Instead, always tank mix Sledge with glyphosate, paraquat or the labelled cotton partners. This partner approach lifts the speed and reliability of the knockdown.

Q. What rate of Sledge should I use in fallow?

A. Rates depend on the crop timing. Use 50 to 100 mL/ha before sowing winter crops. However, use 80 to 160 mL/ha before sowing summer crops. Then add Sledge to the label rate of your glyphosate or paraquat product.

Q. Is Sledge rainfast, and when can I sow?

A. Do not apply if rain is expected within 2 hours. Dry, warm conditions after spraying also improve uptake. For fallow weeds, do not sow crops for at least 1 hour after application.

Directions Of Use

Click here for Sledge Herbicide directions for use.

Sledge is a contact herbicide, so thorough and uniform coverage is essential. Half-fill the spray tank with clean water and start agitation. Add Sledge, then the glyphosate or paraquat partner, then the remaining water. Apply to actively growing weeds by ground rig. Do not apply alone, and do not apply by air except in cotton.

Fallow and pre-sowing knockdown rates

Crop / Situation Rate/ha Critical comments
Prior to sowing winter crops or starting a winter fallow 50–100 mL plus label rate of a glyphosate or paraquat product Use the higher rate on larger weeds and for faster brownout. Apply to actively growing weeds at the 2 to 6 leaf stage. Brownout shows in 2 to 7 days. Do not sow crops for at least 1 hour after application.
Prior to sowing summer crops or starting a summer fallow 80–160 mL plus label rate of a glyphosate or paraquat product Covers the winter weed list plus Afghan melon and prickly paddy melon. On summer fallows, an adjuvant such as Hasten may improve results.

Cotton rates

Use Rate/ha Critical comments
Volunteer cotton control 100 mL + 1.5 L paraquat product, or 100–200 mL + 2 L spray oil / 1 L Hasten Target seedlings to the 8 to 10 leaf stage. Apply by ground rig with thorough coverage.
First pass defoliation and boll opening 80 mL + 1 to 2 L ethephon (720 g/L) + 1 L spray oil or 0.5 L Hasten Apply when the last harvestable boll is physiologically mature. A follow-up application may be required.
Second pass defoliation 40 mL + 1 to 2 L ethephon (720 g/L) + 1 L spray oil or 0.5 L Hasten Apply after an 80 mL/ha first pass. Always tank mix with ethephon and a spray oil.

Re-crop interval: do not sow crops for at least 1 hour after application. Always check the companion product label, as a longer re-crop period may apply.
