Description
Why choose Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide?Â
Monument offers a range of benefits to users, including:Â
- Highly effective control of tough-to-kill species like winter grass, ryegrass, Kikuyu, sedges, and a variety of broadleaf weeds
- Convenient liquid formulation with low environmental loading
- Excellent resistance management when used in a targeted strategy with Barricade Turf Herbicide
- Fully systemic action with root, shoot, and leaf uptake
- Effective management of bahia seedheads
- Long-lasting herbicidal action with follow-up applications rarely required (except for Kikuyu suppression)
Which turf species can Monument Herbicide be applied to?
Monument can be used as a post-emergent herbicide on the following warm-season turf species:
- Common couch (Cynodon dactylon)
- Durban grass (Dactyloctenium australe)
- Hybrid couch (Cynodon dactylon x Cynodon transvaalensis)
- Queensland blue couch (Digitaria didactyla)
- Zoysia grass (Zoysia japonica)
This product must not be applied to bentgrass, buffalo, centipede grass, fescue, Kikuyu, paspalum, ryegrass, or any other turf species not listed in the directions for use. Transient discolouration may occur on Queensland blue couch and zoysia after application.
Which weed species does Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide control?Â
Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide can be used as a post-emergent herbicide to control a wide range of weeds, including:Â
- Bahia grass seedheads (Paspalum notatum) [when tank-mixed with Primo growth regulators; suppression only]Â
- Bindii (jo-jo) [Soliva sessilis]
- Burr medic (Medicago polymorpha)
- Cat’s ear (flatweed) [Hypochaeris radicata]
- Chickweed (Stellaria media)
- Clover (Trifolium repens)
- Cotula (Cotula australis)
- Creeping oxalis (Oxalis corniculata)
- Curled dock (Rumex crispus)
- Kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum) [suppression only]
- Milk thistle (Sonchus oleraceus)
- Mullumbimby couch (Cyperus brevifolius)
- Nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus)
- Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne)
- Winter grass (Poa annua)
Can Monument Herbicide be used on buffalo grass?
No — Monument is not registered for use on buffalo grass. It should only be applied to common couch, durban grass, hybrid couch, Queensland blue couch, and zoysia. Applying Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide to buffalo grass constitutes off-label use and may cause turf damage.
For sedge and broadleaf weed control in buffalo grass, consider a registered alternative like Sempra Herbicide, which uses the active ingredient halosulfuron.
Will Monument kill the Kikuyu grass growing into a couch lawn?Â
Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide suppresses Kikuyu, but will not fully eradicate it. For best results, apply at 300mL/ha across two applications, 21 to 28 days apart. Autumn applications have been found to deliver the most consistent results.Â
After application, expect ongoing growth reduction and turf thinning rather than a complete kill. Kikuyu is a persistent perennial weed with an extensive stolon and rhizome system, and one application is unlikely to provide complete control. Repeat treatments in subsequent seasons may be necessary to maintain suppression effects.
How do Monument and Barricade Herbicide work together?
Monument Liquid Herbicide and Barricade Herbicide address different phases of weed management. Monument is post-emergent, which means it controls weeds that are already growing, whereas Barricade is pre-emergent, and prevents weed seeds from germinating before they emerge.
Together, these products form a two-phase program: Monument cleans up existing weeds whilst Barricade stops the next flush from establishing. Syngenta’s technical literature supports tank mixing the two, so they can be applied in a single pass.Â
Monument and Barricade have proven particularly effective at managing winter grass and ryegrass in couch grass, and together, they support Group B resistance management based on the two modes of action present.
Do I need to water in Monument after spraying?
No, you do not need to water in Monument Herbicide after application. It is a foliar-absorbed herbicide that works through leaf, crown, and shoot uptake.Â
For best results, allow the spray to dry on the leaf before any irrigation. Normal post-application irrigation then places Monument into the soil profile, where it will continue to be taken up by weed roots. This dual foliar and root uptake is part of what makes Monument so effective against perennial sedges with deep tuber systems.Â
The product is rainfast within three hours of application.
How long does Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide take to work?
The speed of weed kill when using Monument will depend on soil temperature and weed growth stage. During summer, when soil temperatures are above 15°C and weeds are actively growing, expect visible symptoms in three to six weeks. In late winter with cooler soil temperatures, allow six to eight weeks. Monument Herbicide has very little activity when soil temperatures are below 12°C.
Weeds that are no longer actively growing at the time of application, such as late-season ryegrass, may show reduced response regardless of temperature.
Can Monument be mixed with other herbicides in the tank?
The Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide product label approves tank mixing with Primo Maxx II Turf Growth Regulator and Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator. Syngenta’s technical literature also supports tank mixing Monument with Barricade Pre-Emergent Herbicide HG for combined pre- and post-emergent programs.Â
Do not mix Monument with acid-forming compounds, phenoxy herbicides, or any product that may lower the spray tank pH below 5.5, as the active constituent degrades rapidly under acidic conditions.Â
For any tank mix not listed on the product label, consult Syngenta or your agronomist before proceeding.

So glad I invested in this. One 100ml bottle is going to last me years, and it is absolutely magical stuff – pinpoint accurate against all the grassy weeds whilst being perfectly harmless to basically all the turf grass varieties. Pretty much the only one suitable for Qld blue couch, so I’m loving it. It’s nailed the paspalum and bahia grass in my lawn in one application, so now my couch can finally get some breathing room.
Also, best price I’ve found in aus. Thanks specialistsales!

We have used this product now for close to a year, over 3 gardens. One garden was well maintained and has given the best results. The 2nd oldest garden has taken 3 treatments and the very old grass has finally given up. Oddly the chickweed has tried and also some patches with clover. The 3rd garden is fairly new, with an old footpath. This one is still under maintenance & the dogs dig up soil and grass, hence the green patches. I love walking around and grabbing old runners and lifting out about a foot worth of dead grass. We did sow some new couch seed with some growth improver as well on the old lawn. Overall we are very impressed with Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide. Some grass will die fast other well established old grass will take time.
