Injecta 400 - Di-Bak Tree Control Capsule Applicator INJECTA ADAMA

Description

Injecta 400 – Di-Bak Tree Control Capsule Applicator

The Injecta 400 system is used for the control of tree weeds (woody weeds) and unwanted trees in forestry, pasture, commercial, industrial and public service areas.

The Adama Injecta 400 system has been designed specifically for use with Adama Di-Bak capsulated products. The Injecta 400 system provides a fast and efficient approach for the delivery of capsule products into tree stems and cut stumps.  The Di-Bak capsules are sealed directly into woody weeds and unwanted trees, killing them from the inside with no unintended environmental casualties.

Only the Injecta 400 technology allows treatment under many different weather conditions and in challenging terrain. The Injecta 400 is recommended for targeting tree-killing, with reduced chemicals thus reducing the cost of doing business and your environmental footprint.

The InJecta 400 system provides a fast and efficient approach for the delivery of capsule products into tree stems.  Di-Bak Capsules are available as either Di-Bak G &  Di-Bak Parkinsonia Bioherbicide

  • Di-Bak G Capsules are for the control of woody weeds and unwanted trees in forestry, pasture, commercial, industrial, and public service areas.  Di-Bak G capsules contain Glyphosate and are inserted directly into the trunk ensuring an effective kill with no adverse effects on the surrounding environment.  Di-Bak G is available in 200 or 1000 capsule bottles for insertion into the Injecta 400 gun.
  • Di-Bak Parkinsonia Bioherbicide is recommended to control the weed Parkinsonia aculeata (also known as Parkinsonia, Barbados Flower-Fence, Horse Bean, Jelly Bean Tree, Jerusalem Thorn, Mexican Palo Verde, Mexican Paloverde). The Di-Bak Parkinsonia capsules contain three native Australian fungi that have been isolated from plants afflicted with a naturally occurring disease known as Parkinsonia dieback, which can be lethal to the plant. The formulated capsule is inserted into a hole drilled in the trunk of the tree and sealed within, causing an infection that kills Parkinsonia naturally. Di-Bak Parkinsonia is available in 200 or 1000 capsule bottles for insertion into the Injecta 400 gun.

The Injecta 400 has a magazine that holds 30 capsules for multiple applications.  Spare magazines are also available.  The Injecta 400 system is supplied with an installed 8mm x 165mm drill bit.

Di-Bak Parkinsonia Bioherbicide consists of one or a combination of specific fungi which have been isolated from weeds growing naturally in Australia that exhibited dieback disease. The fungi are grown on a substrate (carrier) in sterile conditions until fully colonised. The inoculum is then encapsulated or compacted to a dosage form that is stable and conveniently delivered to the weed to induce dieback. The product is administered by drilling a hole slightly larger in diameter than a capsule into the trunk of the weed. Moisture within the Injecta 400 drill wound reactivates fungal growth with subsequent fungal colonisation of the target tree.

The unique delivery of the Di-Bak products in a soluble capsule dose provides a targeted control method with no chemical exposure to the environment or the user.  These control methods have been specifically developed for unique Australian conditions and are:

  • Environmentally-sound
  • Safe to handle
  • Non-toxic and harmless to native vegetation, animals, and humans
  • Designed for specific and defined land conditions to maximise efficacy.

    Waste of time

Poorly designed product in so many ways. For a start, it’s very difficult to see if a capsule has been pushed into the tree or not. The reload function often doesn’t click into the next slot. And unless you’re counting to 30 as you go, there is no way of knowing if you’re through the magazine or not.
I found it much easier to just drill the hole and push the capsule in by hand. An expensive waste of time.

Directions Of Use

Chemical Products Dose Rates:  The dose required per tree stem is one capsule per 10cm of stem circumference.

Stem Circumference Range Max Diameter Dose
Up to 10cm 4 1 Capsule
11 – 20cm 7 2 Capsules
21 – 30cm 10 3 Capsules
31 – 40cm 13 4 Capsules
41 – 50cm 16 5 Capsules

Stem circumference can be determined with a tape measure. With practice, estimation by eye is sufficient. Multiple doses must be distributed with equal spacing (one every 10 cm) in a ring around the stem. For two doses, place capsules on opposite sides of the stem, for three – space in thirds and so on.  Correct and equal spacing maximises the distribution of chemical herbicide around the trunk. For multiple stemmed targets, each stem emerging from the ground should be treated individually according to size.

Biological Products Dose Rates: Biological products are not dose-dependent in the same way as chemical herbicide products. The Di-Bak biological agents create an infection process once inserted into the tree, therefore a single capsule is sufficient to cause disease and eventual death of the treated plant. However, where the target plant is exceptionally large or has multiple stems, treatment with multiple capsules will lead to the faster establishment of dieback.

Tree Form Dosage
Single-stem tree 1 Capsule
Multi-stemmed tree 1  Capsule per stem
Very large trees Multiple capsules placed around the stem (optional)

Capsules should be injected at a height of 20cm above soil level where possible.

Operating the Injecta 400 Unit:

  1. Hold the Injecta unit by the D handle with drill pulled back slightly to retract drill bit behind the pointed locator pins.
  2. Push the pointed locator pins on the front of the Injecta unit firmly onto the tree stem to provide grip. This can be done with a slight jabbing motion.
  3. While pushing the D handle forward (firmly towards the tree), drill into the stem until full depth is achieved with a clearing action.  While maintaining forward pressure on the D Handle, withdraw the drill bit clear of the hole and then stop drilling. The head unit should remain firmly pushed against the tree.
  4. While maintaining forward pressure on the D handle – gently pull back on the drill unit to engage the magazine, a clicking noise will be heard. This will rotate the chamber one position to load the plug and capsule in the correct position.
  5. Without re-starting the drill (in stationary mode) gently push the drill bit forward to insert a capsule and plug into a drilled hole with a slight tamping motion. It is not necessary to drive the plug deep into the tree, this will reduce the success of the treatment by compressing the capsule. The InJecta unit can now be removed from the tree. The plug should now be firmly placed and visible slightly above or level with the drill hole.

Capsule Placement:

The placement of capsules into the tree is dependent upon tree size and the number of stems. For chemical herbicides, this is a dose-dependent process. Capsules should be placed in the stem at 20 cm above ground level, however, placement further up the stem is possible provided that it is below major branching points.

Before operating the Injecta 400, carefully read the Injecta 400 User Manual.

Di-Bak G Herbicide does not claim control over Wild Olive Tree.  This may not necessarily be because it is ineffective but more likely that this species was not included in the initial testing phase required to provide data for APVMA registration.  Although there are no guarantees of success using the Di-Bak G Herbicide on 'off-label' species, a trial would be worth a go as it could control this species as it does the other species listed on the product label.

Tips For Use

Removing The Magazine From The Injecta Unit:

  1. Fully withdraw the drill bit to the rear position – the head unit cannot be opened otherwise.
  2. Pull the knob at the front of the InJecta head unit to open the head mechanism.
  3. The magazine can be removed by lifting off the spindle.

Loading The Magazine With Plugs And Capsules:

The Injecta 400 magazine is designed to hold 30 Di-bak capsules and sealing plugs. These are loaded in tandem into each of the 30 chambers. Note that the magazine has 31 chambers as one (in central position) must remain empty to allow for the initial drilling action. The inner section rotates in a clockwise direction.

  1. Flip open the magazine lid.
  2. Position the inner section to centre the hole at position #1.
  3. Load the wooden plugs singly into each of the 30 chambers keeping position #1 empty.
  4. Load the capsules individually into each of the 30 chambers (on top of the plugs) again keeping position #1 empty.  Note that all 30 positions now show capsules at the top (with position # 1 empty).
  5. Close the lid firmly, it should click shut. Note that plugs are visible at the rear of the magazine with position # 1 empty.

Engaging The Magazine With The Injecta Unit:

  1. Fully withdraw the drill bit to the rear position – the unit cannot be opened otherwise.
  2. Pull the knob at the front of the InJecta head to open the head mechanism.
  3. Place the loaded magazine unit onto the spindle with the lid facing forward, and matching the location of risers with the cut-outs.
  4. Close the front. The magazine should now be firmly engaged and the drill bit can be pushed forward through an empty chamber (position # 1).
  5. A cordless drill can now be attached to the drive shaft.
