Di-Bak G Herbicide DI-BAK-G ADAMA

Description

Di-Bak G Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Glyphosate @ 700g/kg

Di-Bak G Herbicide capsules are for the control of woody weeds and unwanted trees in forestry, pasture, commercial, industrial and public service areas.  Di-Bak G capsules contain Glyphosate and are inserted directly into the trunk with the Injecta 400 Applicator ensuring an effective kill with no adverse effects on the surrounding environment.

Di-Bak G Herbicide is an encapsulated non-volatile, water-soluble granule with non-selective herbicidal activity against many weed plants. Di-Bak G capsules are injected directly into the stem’s sapwood ie stem injection into the vascular system. This chemical moves throughout the plant from the point of injection.

The most effective time to apply herbicides like Di-Bak G to woody plants is during growth periods when herbicidal materials will be translocated to growth points throughout the plant.  Visible effect/efficacy of the product may be delayed/ impacted by poor growing conditions following treatment.  It is important to ensure that the plug to the hole is well secured. The plug is vitally important to create a humid atmosphere within the tree for the capsule to disintegrate and the granules to dissolve so the glyphosate is translocated within the tree.

Mortality of adult trees occurs 4 months after treatment with Di-Bak G Herbicide. Visible effects are a gradual yellowing and wilting of the leaves which advance to complete browning of above-ground growth and deterioration of underground plant parts.

Where can Di-Bak G Herbicide be used:

Once injected into the target species, Di-Bak G Herbicide should not affect the surrounding area with any residual contamination as it does not translocate into the soil or the immediate environment. However, you must not directly contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the capsules or used containers. We recommend checking the local rules and regulations where the Di-Bak G Herbicide is to be applied regarding the use of herbicides around waterways, as these are not blanket policies that cover all areas.

As per the directions for use for Di-Bak G Herbicide, one (1) capsule is inserted every 10cm of circumference.  If the trunk of your tree is 3 meters (300 centimetres), then you would need to insert a total of 30 capsules around the trunk.  These instructions are available on the Di-Bak G Herbicide Specialist Sales webpage, in the 'SDS & Technical' tab.

Di-Bak G Herbicide is registered to control many Eucalypt species but does not explicitly list Eucalyptus cinerea as one of the species controlled.  This is more likely that E. cinerea was not included in the initial testing data provided to the APVMA for registration of the Di-Bak G Herbicide. Time and costs limit the extent of how many species a product is trialled on before the registration is submitted.

If you plan on applying the capsules without the Injecta 400 Applicator, then the 8mm hole must be drilled far enough to penetrate the tree's flesh and deep enough for the capsule and the plug to be inserted.  The maximum depth the Injecta 400 drills to is 50cm which should act as a guide for manual application.

Di-Bak G Herbicide does not claim control over Erica weed. This may not necessarily be because it is ineffective but more likely that this species was not included in the initial testing phase required to provide data for APVMA registration. Although there are no guarantees of success using the Di-Bak G Herbicide on 'off-label' species, a trial would be worth a go as it could control the Erica Weed as it does the other species listed on the product label.  Providing a capsule can be inserted into the trunk of the plant so the chemical can be translocated to the root system, then you should see satisfactory results.

Application of the Di-Bak G Herbicide capsules can be done manually with a cordless drill and 8mm drill bit.  The Injecta 400 is recommended if multiple trees need to be treated with ease and speed.  It also ensures the capsule is inserted and plugged before the tree seals the drill hole with sap.  The dowel plugs are included with the Di-Bak G Capsules.

  13. Q Will this work on a large Chinese elm tree
Asked by Michael Allen on November 30, 2021 8:21 pm
    Answered by the admin

Di-Bak G Herbicide only has 20 species of trees listed on its label that are susceptible to this herbicide.  Unfortunately, Chinese Elm is not one of them.  This is more likely that when the product was being trialled to obtain data for registration, only a small number of species were selected.  Testing on more species takes many years of research and comes at a cost.  Although we can't guarantee the effectiveness of the Di-Bak G on Chinese Elm as it is being used 'off-label', we are confident of a satisfactory result.
