The Cydectin LA for Cattle will not deter or stop new ticks from attaching to animals treated within the 56-day timeframe. Ticks must be exposed to the active ingredient of Cydectin LA to be affected, which involves attaching to a host. If new ticks appear to remain for 2-3 weeks after attaching, then a treatment other than moxidectin may be required. This could include a Fluazuron backline (i.e. Acatak, TickPro or Oztik), a plunge dip (Amitik, Bayticol, Barricade S or Tixafly) or a spray product such as Bayticol or Barricade S.

  2. It has been recommended that the Cydectin LA for Cattle is to be used at the commencement of the tick eradication program of our breeding herd, but literature suggests it is not to be used on pregnant or lactating females.

Cydectin Long Acting Injection for Cattle has been shown to be safe to administer to cows in oestrus and during pregnancy when used as directed. In a reproductive safety trial, cattle were treated either during oestrus (14 days prior to mating: Group A) or at Day 90 of pregnancy (Group B). The trial demonstrated that treatment had no negative effect on reproduction. Cydectin LA for Cattle should not be used in lactating cows or within 80 days of calving where milk or milk products may be used for human consumption.

The number of cattle treated with a 200mL pack of Cydectin LA - Long Acting Injection For Cattle depends on the weight of the cattle being drenched. The recommended dose rate of 1mL/100kg bodyweight means if a beast is 500kg, then 5mL of Cydectin LA would be required. A 200mL pack would treat 40 x 500kg animals in this situation. A dose rate table is available on the 'directions for use' tab when viewing the Cydectin LA - Long Acting Injection For Cattle webpage.

As the Cydectin LA (Long-Acting) Injection For Cattle is injected into the animal's ear cartridge where it meets the skull, it was deemed that a dose of more than 5mL was too much in one ear. When the APVMA approved the registration, that was what was listed on the directions for use and packaging. As veterinarians are not bound by a product's label (like Specialist Sales is), some recommend splitting the total dose between two injection sites (a smaller dose rate in each ear). We recommend you speak with the manufacturer, Virbac (1800 242 100), as they have vets and technical experts who can provide these 'off-label' recommendations. Alternatively, you can speak with your local vet.
