Questions and answers from customers

We have a heavy tick infestation on beef breeding cattle. I note the product information says that it is unnecessary to treat suckling calves; however, in this case, we would like to dose calves > 50kg for the immediate knockdown of ticks and hopefully turn the health of animals around quicker. Is it safe to use on calves at the recommended dose rate per kg?

Acatak Duostar Tick Development Inhibitor is not recommended for use on calves under 100kg. The lightest weight animal this should be applied to is 101kg, as indicated on the 'directions for use'. This is due to the active ingredients requiring a certain fat level along the animal's backbone, where the chemical can be absorbed.

You can use Acatak Duostar Tick Development Inhibitor & Broad Spectrum Pour-On and Insecticidal Buffalo Fly tags simultaneously.  The Ivermectin in the Duostar will only provide short-term fly control (up to 21 days), but the fly tags will last much longer (3-4 months), depending on the brand used.  Note that neither product will give complete buffalo fly control but should reduce the numbers to the point that is bearable for the animal.  The tick control from Acatak Duostar Tick Development Inhibitor & Broad Spectrum Pour-On is up to 12 weeks.  When the parasite pressure is extreme at the peak of the season, the length of control time may be reduced, and reapplication may be required.
