Bayticol Cattle Dip and Spray from Elanco Australasia Pty Ltd contains 75 g/L flumethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. On cattle and horses, it controls susceptible strains of cattle tick, paralysis tick and New Zealand cattle tick. In addition, it treats brown dog tick and New Zealand cattle tick on dogs.

Control covers synthetic pyrethroid-susceptible strains, including cattle tick strains resistant to chlorinated hydrocarbon, organophosphorus and amidine products. In practice, producers apply Bayticol as a plunge dip, spray-race wash or hand spray. Rain a few hours after treatment does not adversely affect control.

How to use Bayticol cattle dip and spray

Mix Bayticol at 1 litre per 1000 litres of water for cattle and horses. Treat cattle tick at intervals of not more than 19 to 21 days. Also, treat paralysis tick and New Zealand cattle tick every 10 days while they are active. The label directions apply in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory only.

Resistance management

Resistance may develop to any tick treatment. Therefore, test your ticks for resistance if control falls. Bayticol works with externally applied buffalo fly sprays. It also suits use alongside vaccination, castration and dehorning.

General instructions

The label directions apply in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory only.
For cattle and horses, charge the dip or spray at 1:1000 (1 litre of Bayticol per 1000 litres of water). This gives 75 mg flumethrin per litre of wash.
Add the required concentrate to twice its volume of water in a bucket, mix, then pour it along the dip or across the sump surface. Stir thoroughly.
For dogs, apply as a rinse at 3 mL of Bayticol per 5 L of water. Wet the dog thoroughly with a sponge, rub the wash into all parts of the coat, and do not wash out. Allow the coat to dry.
Treat the skin around the head and neck and between the toes of dogs with particular care.

Re-treatment interval

Use Bayticol at intervals of not more than 19 to 21 days to control cattle tick (Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) australis).
To control paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus) and New Zealand cattle tick (Haemaphysalis longicornis) on cattle and horses when ticks are active, the treatment interval should be 10 days.
On dogs, repeat fortnightly for continuous control.

Critical comments

Plunge dip: do not allow the dip level to fall by more than one quarter of its capacity before replenishment.
Recirculating spray-race, Method A: replenish after every 250 litre fall in sump volume. Treat no more than 750 adults before you empty and recharge the sump.
Recirculating spray-race, Method B: replenish after the initial 1000 litre fall in sump volume, then after a 500 litre fall, and subsequently after every 250 litre fall. Treat no more than 750 adults before you empty and recharge the sump.
Constant replenishment spray-race: treat no more than 750 adults before you empty and recharge the sump.
Hand sprays or non-recirculation spray-races: use a minimum of 8 to 10 litres of wash per adult to ensure saturation.
Reinforcement of dips is not generally necessary. However, if flooding or neglect has lowered the active constituent concentration below 60 mg per litre, reinforce the dip back to the charging rate of 75 mg per litre.
This product does not control paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus) on dogs.

Tips For Use

Restraints

Do not use this product for any purpose, or in any manner, contrary to the label unless authorised under appropriate legislation.

Contraindications

Do not dip sick or exhausted cattle, horses or dogs.

Precautions

Exercise normal care when handling stock.
Dip young animals separately.
Individual horses may be sensitive to pyrethroids. Hose the horse down thoroughly if a reaction occurs.

Mixing instructions

In a plunge dip, use 20 to 25 cattle as stirrers. Dip these cattle again.
Stir a spray-race sump with a paddle and agitate it vigorously with the pump.
Stir the dip at the start of each day’s dipping and after every replenishment.

Dip and spray management

Measure the dip or sump volume accurately. Mark the volume levels on the dip wall or a dip stick.
Keep sumps near full. Replenish before the volume falls below the recommended levels.
Stir the dip or sump before sampling.
In a plunge dip, take the sample 1 metre below the surface at the jump end as the last animal passes through.
In a spray-race, let the drainings return to the sump on completion. Stir with a paddle and pump, then sample from below the surface immediately.

Compatibility

Bayticol is compatible with externally applied buffalo fly sprays, vaccination and normal management procedures such as castration and dehorning.
Bayticol may be used in water of any hardness. Do not use softening agents.

Protection of wildlife, fish, crustacea and the environment

Very toxic to aquatic life. Dangerous to fish and aquatic organisms.
Do not contaminate dams, streams or waterways with product or used containers.
Store in the original container, tightly closed, in a safe place under lock and key.

Disposal of used dipwash

Dispose of unwanted dipwash into a pit of adequate size on level ground, away from dams, streams and watercourses.
Slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) at 4 kg per 1000 litres of wash may speed degradation of the active chemical.

Container disposal

Triple-rinse the container into the dip. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site.
If the drumMUSTER logo is visible and the container is thoroughly cleaned, dried and free of visible residues, recycle it at any drumMUSTER collection or similar program site. Do not replace the cap, but recycle it separately with the container.
If not recycling, break, crush or puncture the container and deliver it to an approved waste management facility.
If no approved facility is available, bury the broken, crushed or punctured container 500 mm below the surface in a disposal pit marked for this purpose, clear of waterways, vegetation and tree roots. Follow local, state or territory government regulations.
Do not burn empty containers or product.

Storage

Store below 30 °C (room temperature).
Store in the closed, original container, as cool as possible.
Store away from food and feed.

Safety directions

Will damage the eyes. Will irritate the nose, throat and skin.
Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Do not inhale vapour.
If product is on skin, immediately wash the area with soap and water.
If product is in eyes, wash it out immediately with water.
Wash hands after use.
When opening the container and preparing the spray or dip, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), elbow-length nitrile gloves and goggles.
