Extinosad Lice, Fly And Maggot Eliminator (Spinosad) EXTINOSAD-ELIMINATOR Elanco

Description

Extinosad Lice, Fly And Maggot Eliminator

Active Ingredient: Spinosad @ 25g/L

Extinosad Lice, Fly And Maggot Eliminator is an effective way to prevent blowfly strike and control maggots and lice.

Extinosad Eliminator treats and prevents blowfly strike in a single procedure, protects mulesing and other wounds against blowfly strike, and controls lice in sheep with short or long wool.

Extinosad Eliminator has no withholding periods for both meat and wool and poses minimal risk to farmworkers and livestock.

Extinosad Eliminator is a better way to clean up lice, blowflies and maggots in sheep. Its unique active ingredient kills lice, blowflies and maggots, even resistant strains, without harming livestock, workers or the environment.

How Extinosad Lice, Fly And Maggot Eliminator Works:

Extinosad Eliminator contains the active ingredient, spinosad, which is derived from the naturally-occurring soil bacterium, Saccharopolyspora spinosa. Once absorbed or ingested by target insects, spinosad causes prolonged involuntary muscle contractions and tremors, resulting in paralysis and death. Spinosad has a high level of activity against a number of insect species, including the sheep body louse (Bovicola ovis) and the sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) and its larvae. Spinosad is chemically unrelated to any other compound used in the Australian livestock industry.

Indications:

Extinosad Eliminator is registered for:

  • Treatment and prevention of blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) strike on sheep, including strains that are resistant to organophosphate (OP) compounds;
  • Control of lice (Bovicola ovis) on sheep with short wool and long wool, including strains that are resistant to synthetic pyrethroid (SP) compounds;
  • Protection against blowfly strike in mulesing and other wounds of sheep for at least eight days.

Directions Of Use

Application:

Control Of Lice In Short Wool (2-6 weeks after shearing):

Treatment Method: Plunge Dip or Shower Dip

Dipping within 2 weeks of shearing is not recommended.

Dipping sheep heavily infested with grass seed is not recommended.

For effective control of lice, thorough wetting to skin level is essential.

Plunge Dip Initial Charge – 40mL per 100L Water

Plunge Dip Constant Replenishment – 60mL per 100L water and constantly add to keep the dip full.

Instructions:

  • The minimum swim length of the plunge dip should be 9 metres and each sheep’s head should be dunked twice (this does not include the initial immersion when entering the dip).
  • Randomly inspect sheep to ensure thorough wetting.
  • To minimise wastage, estimate volume of wash required for day’s dipping and mix up accordingly.

Control Of Lice In Short Wool (2-6 weeks after shearing):

Shower Dip Initial Charge: 80mL per 100L Water

Shower Dip Constant Replenishment – 160mL per 100L water and constantly add to the sump to keep the sump over 75% full.

Instructions:

  • Shower dips should only be filled to recommended capacity and run for 12 minutes to ensure thorough wetting (using the top nozzles only for at least 8 minutes).
  • Inspect first 2 loads of sheep to ensure thorough wetting.
  • Do not allow sump level to fall by more than 25%.
  • Pressure requirements, 300-450 kPa (45-60 psi) at 18 L/sec.

Control Of Lice In Sheep With Long Wool (6weeks to 12 months after shearing)

Treatment Method: Jetting Fluid

After shearing, sheep should be re-treated with an effective off-shears or short wool product.

Reduced effectiveness is likely if used on sheep with lumpy wool.

Jetting Fluid – 100mL per 100L Water

Instructions:

  • Using jetting equipment, apply 0.5 L of fluid for each month of wool growth (up to 5 litres per sheep) from the poll to the tail base and around the neck and along each side.
  • Ensure saturation to skin level.
  • Pressure requirements 500-700 kPa (75-100 psi).

For Treatment And Prevention Of Blowfly Strike

Treatment Method: Jetting Fluid, Flystrike Dressing, Mulesing & Wound Dressing.

When used on sheep with less than 6 weeks wool a reduced period of protection against blowfly strike may result.

A shorter protection period can be expected in lambs and coarse wool (meat breed) sheep.

Sheep Blowfly – Jetting Fluid – 100mL per 100L Water

Instructions:

  • Using jetting equipment, apply 0.5 L of fluid for each month of wool growth (up to 5 litres per sheep) from the poll to the tail base and around the breech and pizzle as appropriate.
  • Pressure requirements 500-700 kPa (75-100 psi).

Sheep Blowfly – Flystrike Dressing – 5mL per 5L Water.

Instructions:

Prepare a fresh dilution of flystrike dressing each day.

Remove the wool from around the wound using clippers or shears.

Apply 1 to 2 litres onto the wound.

Sheep Blowfly – Mulesing and wound dressing – 25mL per 5L Water

Instructions:

  • Apply by spraying 40 to 80 mL on to the wound and 25mm into the surrounding wool.

Application Directions:

It is good agricultural practice not to treat animals when they are wet or if rain is likely. However, even moderate to heavy rainfall following treatment does not adversely affect the efficacy of the product.

Short wool dipping

Maximum lice kill at treatment and strict quarantine conditions for treated sheep are necessary for effective lice control. Regular and careful monitoring of sheep and repair of fences are essential.

Under no circumstances should sheep of unknown lice status be allowed to come in contact with sheep in which eradication is occurring. Treated mobs must be kept separate from lice infested sheep or sheep of unknown lice status. Failure to dip correctly or adhere to quarantine requirements may result in a breakdown of lice eradication in the flock.

For effective lice control, it is recommended that:

  • Every sheep on the property is treated at the one time;
  • A thorough muster is conducted so that no untreated sheep remain;
  • The boundary fences are checked to ensure animals are contained, and stray sheep are excluded.

Jetting

When applied as directed, this product will protect sheep against flystrike for 4-6 weeks. Extinosad is a short acting, non-residual product and efficacy is determined by the thoroughness of the treatment.

Lousy sheep in long wool, treated with less than 9 months wool growth may need to be re-treated before shearing.
