How Extinosad Pour-On for Sheep Works:

Extinosad contains the active ingredient, spinosad, derived from the naturally-occurring soil bacteria, Saccharopolyspora spinosa. Once absorbed or ingested by target insects, spinosad causes prolonged involuntary muscle contractions and tremors, resulting in neuromuscular fatigue, paralysis and death. Spinosad has a high level of activity against many insect species, including the sheep body louse (Bovicola ovis). Its unique mode of action controls lice strains that are resistant to insect growth regulator (IGR) and synthetic pyrethroid (SP) compounds.

Despite its deadly activity against lice, Extinosad Pour-On poses remarkably little risk to humans, livestock or the environment when used in accordance with the label directions. It can be applied safely to all classes of sheep, including lambs.

Apply using the special manual applicator or a powered applicator fitted with a modified t-bar nozzle.
Halve the dose volume and apply as two bands approximately 5 cm from the backline on each side of the animal.
Apply each band evenly from the poll to the base of the tail.
Confine treated sheep in the yards for a short time to improve the spread of Extinosad Pour-On around the body via rubbing and/or physical contact with other sheep.

You can’t apply both Extinosad Pour-On & CLiK Extra Spray-On simultaneously to sheep. The recommended regime would be to shear the sheep and treat them with Extinosad Pour-On or Viper Pour-On off the board.

The best practice for lice control on sheep to achieve effective control is to treat every sheep on the property at the same time. Lethal concentrations of Spinosad (ie Extinosad when used at the correct dose) cause knockdown of lice within 6 hours of exposure and death within 24 hours.

Tips For Use

Recommendations for Lice Control:

It is recommended that a thorough muster be conducted so that no untreated sheep remain.
Boundary fences should be checked to ensure animals are contained and stray sheep are excluded.
Treated sheep must be kept separate from lice infested sheep or sheep of unknown lice status.
For effective control, every sheep on the property should be treated at the same time.
Avoid split shearing.
Avoid treating ewes within six weeks of the commencement of lambing.
If ewes have lambs at foot at shearing time, ensure either that the unshorn lambs are treated at the suckling lamb (unshorn) dose rate or shear the lambs and treat using the off shears dose rate table.
Sheep that require a long wool treatment should be retreated with an off-shears or short wool product at the next shearing.

Sheep Rehandling Interval:

After treatment wait until sheep are dry before rehandling.
