Abatak Dual Combination Drench for Sheep

Abatak Dual Combination Drench for Sheep is a dual-active oral drench containing 50 g/L closantel and 1 g/L abamectin.

Sheep producers use it to treat roundworms, lungworm, nasal bot, itch mite and liver fluke in one pass. It targets barber’s pole worm strains that have beaten closantel or abamectin on their own. In addition, it holds six weeks of sustained activity against closantel-susceptible barber’s pole worm, so pasture egg contamination stays down. Ewes may be drenched at any stage of pregnancy, which suits pre-lambing and weaning programmes.

Pack Sizes: 5 litre & 10 litre. Registrant: Abbey Animal Health Pty Ltd (APVMA #: 95111/144720)

Abatak Dual Combination Drench for Sheep ABATAK-DUAL Abbey Animal Health

Description

Abatak Dual Combination Drench for Sheep

Abatak Dual Combination Drench for Sheep contains 50 g/L closantel and 1 g/L abamectin. Abbey Animal Health Pty Ltd registers this dual-active oral drench for sheep and lambs. Accordingly, it treats roundworms, nasal bot, itch mite and mature and late immature liver fluke.

Producers reach for it when barber’s pole worm pressure builds. Abamectin sits in the macrocyclic lactone family, while closantel sits in the salicylanilide family. Therefore, the two actives hit the same worm by different routes. As a result, the drench stays active against Haemonchus contortus strains resistant to either chemical alone. In addition, it holds sustained activity for six weeks against closantel-susceptible barber’s pole worm.

Frequently asked questions

Q. What does Abatak Dual control in sheep?

A. It controls roundworms, lungworm, nasal bot, itch mite and liver fluke. Coverage also extends to mature and late immature Fasciola hepatica. Moreover, it works on barber’s pole worm strains resistant to closantel and abamectin.

Q. What is the dose rate for Abatak Dual?

A. The sheep dose is 1 mL per 5 kg bodyweight. That rate delivers 200 µg abamectin and 10 mg closantel per kg. However, dose animals over 80 kg at 2 mL per 10 kg bodyweight.

Q. Can pregnant ewes be drenched with Abatak Dual?

A. Yes. Ewes may be treated at any stage of pregnancy. However, do not use it in ewes producing milk for human consumption.

Q. What is the withholding period for Abatak Dual?

A. The meat withholding period is 49 days. Meanwhile, the export slaughter interval is 84 days. Confirm the current interval with Abbey Animal Health before you consign export stock.

Q. Is Abatak Dual suitable for lambs and goats?

A. Not always. The label rules out lambs under six weeks of age or under 10 kg. Furthermore, it is not recommended for goats, because safety and efficacy have not been evaluated.

Q. Is Abatak Dual comparable to Avomec Duel or Wolverine Combination Drench?

A. Yes. All three carry 50 g/L closantel and 1 g/L abamectin. Likewise, all three are dosed at 1 mL per 5 kg body weight. All three also carry a 49-day meat withholding period and an 84-day export slaughter interval. The main difference is the registrant. Abbey Animal Health registers Abatak Dual, while Boehringer Ingelheim registers Avomec Duel. Zagro Australia registers Wolverine. Registered pack sizes differ as well. Always compare both labels before you substitute one product for another.
