Acelepryn Turf Insecticide ACELEPRYN-LIQUID Syngenta

Description

Acelepryn Turf Insecticide, manufactured by Syngenta Australia, delivers season-long grub and caterpillar control for golf courses, residential and commercial lawns, sports grounds, and recreational turfgrass areas. It contains 200 g/L chlorantraniliprole, an anthranilic diamide insecticide classified as a Group 28 product. A single application controls African Black Beetle, Argentinian Scarab, Argentine Stem Weevil larvae, Billbugs, Black Cutworm, Lawn Armyworm, and Sod Webworm. It works as both a preventative and curative treatment, making it one of the most flexible products in professional turf management.

Acelepryn is a suspension concentrate (SC) with minimal odour and excellent suspensibility in spray mixtures. Applied at the higher rate of 1.5 L/ha in early spring, it provides up to six months of residual protection. Because Acelepryn carries no poison schedule classification and requires no personal protective equipment (PPE) and no re-entry periods after application, it suits high-traffic greenspaces where safety and convenience matter.

What pests does Acelepryn Turf Insecticide control?

Acelepryn controls beetle larvae, including African Black Beetle and Argentinian Scarab, Argentine Stem Weevil larvae, and Billbug larvae. It also controls caterpillars including Black Cutworm, Lawn Armyworm, and Sod Webworm.

When is the best time to apply Acelepryn for beetle larvae?

Apply from mid-September for preventative control. This timing targets overwintering adults and early instar larvae before they cause visible turf damage. Early application at 1.5 L/ha provides protection across both African Black Beetle and Argentinian Scarab seasons with a single treatment.

Application Rates at a Glance

Pest Group Rate (per ha) Rate (per 100m2)
Beetle larvae, Stem Weevil, Billbug 750 mL to 1.5 L 7.5 to 15 mL
Caterpillars 750 mL 7.5 mL

Maximum annual broadcast rate: 2.8 L/ha.

Is Acelepryn safe around people and the environment?

Acelepryn activates ryanodine receptors in insect muscle cells, causing uncontrolled muscle contraction and paralysis. Because this mode of action is unique to Group 28 insecticides, it carries a low cross-resistance risk with organophosphates and pyrethroids. For resistance management, rotate with products from different mode-of-action groups and follow the current IRM strategy for your region.

Is Acelepryn safe around people and the environment?

Acelepryn carries no poison schedule classification. It requires no PPE and no withholding period for human re-entry. It is, however, dangerous to aquatic invertebrates. Observe all mandatory buffer zones near natural waterways, and do not apply to food crops.

Directions Of Use

Click here for Acelepryn Turf Insecticide directions for use.

  • Acelepryn is a suspension concentrate.
  • Fill the spray tank one-quarter to half full of water before adding product.
  • Apply using extremely coarse droplets at a minimum water volume of 400 L/ha.
  • For beetle larvae and stem weevil, apply from mid-September at egg hatch or when overwintering adults first appear.
  • For caterpillars, apply when pests or damage are observed and delay irrigation and mowing for 24 hours after treatment.
  • For all other pests, irrigate with approximately 6 mm of water immediately after application to move the active ingredient into the root zone.

Application Rates:

Situation: Golf courses, Lawns including commercial and residential lawn areas, Sports grounds, Other sport and recreational turfgrass areas

Pest: Beetle larvae, including African Black Beetle (Heteronychus arator)

Rate: 750 mL to 1.5 L/ha or 7.5 to 15 mL/100m²

Critical Comments: Apply before or at peak egg hatch for maximum control (typically mid-September). Apply the higher rate for early season (mid-September) application where long residual protection is required, or in later season applications (mid-December onwards) when less sensitive mid instar grubs are present at the time of application, or in cases of high pest pressure.

Pest: Argentinian Scarab (Cyclocephala signaticollis)

Rate: 750 mL to 1.5 L/ha or 7.5 to 15 mL/100m²

Critical Comments: Apply before or at peak egg hatch for maximum control (typically mid-December). Use the higher application rates for later season applications when less sensitive mid instar grubs are present at the time of application or in cases of high pest pressure.

Pest: Argentine Stem Weevil larvae (Listronotus bonariensis), Billbug larvae (Sphenophorus brunnipennis)

Rate: 750 mL to 1.5 L/ha or 7.5 to 15 mL/100m²

Critical Comments: Apply early season (mid-September) applications when overwintered adults are first observed, to prevent damage and population build-up. Early application is essential to prevent grass damage due to feeding. Use the higher application rates when extended residual performance is required or for later season applications (mid-December onwards) or in cases of high pest pressure.

Pest: Caterpillars including Black Cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon), Lawn Armyworm (Spodoptera mauritia), Sod Webworm (Herpetogramma licarsisalis)

Rate: 750 mL/ha or 7.5mL/100m²

Critical Comments: To ensure optimum control, delay watering (irrigation) or mowing for 24 hours after application.

Applications should not be made when the soil is saturated with water because the adequate distribution of the active ingredient vertically in the soil profile cannot be achieved under this condition. As is the case with any insecticide applied to turfgrass for beetle larvae control, optimal results will be achieved if the product is irrigated into the turf immediately after application.

Asked by Paul Freeman on December 26, 2024 10:18 am
    Answered by the admin

Acelpryn Turf Insecticide only recommends spraying with a boom sprayer over a large area to ensure even coverage. It is calculated via the amount of Acelepryn required over a set area. For example, if you were targeting Lawn Armyworm, the rate advises mixing 7.5mL of Acelepryn in a minimum of 4L of water and evenly applying it over 100m² of turf. If you cannot apply via boom spray, we recommend looking at Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide instead.

Acelepryn Turf Insecticide is known for its low environmental impact and is exempt from poison scheduling. It is generally considered safe for non-target organisms, including bees, when used according to label instructions. However it's always best to apply it when bees are not actively foraging to minimize any potential risk.

To ensure even coverage of Acelepryn Turf Insecticide, your boom spray needs to be calibrated to spray at least 400 L of water/10,000m2 (or 4L water per 100m²). The Acelepryn Turf Insecticide label advises application rates per hectare (10,000m2), so you would need to work on 40% (0.4) of that rate for your 4000m2 area. Therefore the rate conversion for 750mL-1.5L/ha in 400L Water over 10,000m2 converts to 300-600mL in 160L Water over 4,000m2.

Acelepryn Turf Insecticide has no restraints or precautions regarding its use before laying new turf. To be effective, however, It needs to reside where the insect pests are active, which is usually the root zone or on the foliage of the turf. If the insecticide is situated too deep in the soil, the pests will not come in contact with it.

Acelepryn Turf Insecticide has no restraints or precautions regarding use before seeding new turf. As Acelepryn is an insecticide, not a herbicide, it should not affect germinating grass seed as it only targets insects. Applying any pesticide to emerging or new turf (up to 6-8 weeks of age) is not recommended due to phytoxicity effects. For confirmation of your specific situation would suggest contacting Syngenta Turf Australia (https://www.syngentaturf.com.au/contact-us).

Acelepryn Turf Insecticide (liquid) is registered to be applied via a 'boom sprayer', which would be ideal for a large area as the insecticide must be evenly spread over a specific area size.  The application rate varies from 750mL to 1500mL per 10,000sqm, depending on the pests you are controlling.  If you cannot apply by boom spray, another option is the Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide.  This is the same product but in a granular form that can be used with a manual hand spreader.
