Description

Keystone EC Selective Herbicide

Active Ingredients: Cloquintocet-Mexyl @ 25g/L & Pinoxaden @ 100g/L

Similar or comparable to Axial 100 EC Selective Herbicide (Syngenta)

Keystone EC Selective Herbicide is a post-emergent, grass-selective herbicide to manage Wild Oats (Black Oats), Phalaris and Annual Ryegrass in Wheat & Barley. The dual active ingredients, Cloquintocet-Mexyl and Pinoxaden, combine to provide superior performance, flexibility and crop safety.

Keystone EC can also be used for selective spray topping of Wild Oats (black oats) in Wheat and Barley, which allows management of wild oat seed numbers later in the growing season, resulting in crop yield gains through reduced competition. Selective Spray Topping (SST) is used later in the season to reduce the amount of viable seed returning to the seed bank in the soil.

What weeds does Keystone EC Selective Herbicide target;

  • Wild Oats (Black Oats) (Avena spp.) 2 leaf to end of tillering (GS12-29)
  • Canary Grass (Phalaris minor)
  • Paradoxa Grass (Phalaris paradoxa) (Annual phalaris) 2 leaf to end of tillering (GS12-29)
  • Selective spray topping of Wild Oats (Black Oats) (Avena spp.) (GS30-47) to reduce panicle numbers and/or weed seed viability
  • Suppression of Annual Ryegrass (Lolium rigidium) 2 leaf to early tillering (GS12-22)

Keystone EC Selective Herbicide can be used in Wheat and Barley for;

  • Controlling wild oats and phalaris from the two-leaf stage to the end of tillering.
  • Spray topping wild oats from stem elongation to flag leaf sheath opening of the wild oats
  • Annual Ryegrass Suppression, from two-leaf to early tillering (best results when sprayed at the 2-3 leaf stage)

Keystone EC Selective Herbicide is very compatible with many broadleaf herbicides. However, tank mixing with herbicides containing Dicamba or 2,4-D is not recommended.  Paraffinic Oil Adjuvant should always be added for ground and aerial applications.

Keystone EC Selective Herbicide contains dual active ingredients, Cloquintocet-Mexyl and Pinoxaden.

  • Cloquintocet-mexyl is a safener that is applied along with the herbicide clodinafop propargyl to mitigate the herbicide’s toxicity to wheat. Cloquintocet-mexyl increases the activity of specific enzymes in crop plants, which then more rapidly detoxify the herbicide. This allows the herbicide to selectively target and control unwanted weeds while minimizing damage to the cultivated crop.
  • Pinoxaden is specifically designed to target grass weeds while leaving broadleaf crops such as wheat and barley unharmed. This selectivity is crucial in maintaining crop yield while effectively controlling unwanted grasses.  It works by inhibiting Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACCase), a key enzyme in fatty acid synthesis essential for plant growth.

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • Conquest Keystone EC Selective Herbicide should be applied to actively growing weeds.
  • Weeds under stress are more difficult to control.
  • Under the influence of low level stresses weeds may still be controlled, but a higher rate of Conquest Keystone EC Selective Herbicide is required.
  • As stress becomes more severe, weed control may fail.
  • Stress can be caused by a range of factors including, dry conditions, waterlogging, cold or nutrient deficiency.

Spray Drift Restraints:

  • Specific definitions for terms used in this section of the label can be found at apvma.gov.au/spraydrift
  • Do not allow bystanders to come into contact with the spray cloud.
  • Do not apply in a manner that may cause an unacceptable impact on native vegetation, agricultural crops, landscaped gardens and aquaculture production or cause contamination of plant or livestock commodities outside the application site from spray drift.
  • Wherever possible, correctly use application equipment designed to reduce spray drift and apply when the wind direction is away from these sensitive areas.
  • Do not apply unless the wind speed is between 3 and 20 kilometres per hour at the application site during the time of application.
  • Do not apply if there are hazardous surface temperature inversion conditions present at the application site during the time of application.
  • Surface temperature inversion conditions exist most evenings one to two hours before sunset and persist until one to two hours after sunrise.

Application:

  • Ground Application:
    • Ensure thorough spray coverage of the target weed is obtained.
    • Apply using 50 to 100 L of water/ha using a nozzle delivering medium droplets.
    • Spray volumes towards the higher end of the recommended range should be used for dense weed populations, where larger droplet sizes are used or when targeting annual ryegrass.
  • Aerial Application:
    • Apply using a minimum of 20 L water/ha and spray at 2 to 3 m above the crop.
    • Use a nozzle delivering medium droplets.
    • Avoid applying if wind speeds are greater than 18 km/hour.
    • For aerial application, use Uptake Oil (Penatrol Spray Oil Adjuvant) at 500 mL/ha.

Restraints:

  • Do not apply if rainfall is expected within 30 minutes.
  • Do not apply to weeds under stress from factors including very dry, waterlogged, cold, frosty conditions, nutrient deficiency or the use of pre-emergent herbicides.

Precautions: Re-entry Period:

  • Do not allow entry into treated areas until the spray has dried unless wearing cotton overalls (or equivalent clothing) and chemical resistant gloves.
  • Clothing must be laundered after each day’s use.
