Surefire Zinc Phosphide Mouse Bait is for the control of heavy infestations of mice in agricultural situations and broadacre crops.
Surefire Zinc Phosphide is manufactured in Australia from locally grown quality wheat, which is carefully graded, cleaned and sterilized, before being mixed with food-grade oil and zinc phosphide powder.
Surefire Zinc Phosphide works by releasing phosphine gas in the stomach of the mouse immediately after it eats the poisoned grain. The gas is rapidly absorbed by the stomach, and it then depresses the central nervous system. Mice die from very small amounts of grain eaten, with more than 90% control being typically achieved within 48hrs of application.
When zinc phosphide is eaten by an animal, stomach acid causes it to release the toxic gas phosphine. Baits containing zinc phosphide are especially dangerous to animals that cannot vomit, such as rats, mice, and rabbits. The phosphine in the stomach then crosses into the body’s cells and stops the cells from producing energy. This causes the cells to die. Zinc phosphide affects all cells but targets cells in the heart, lungs, and liver.
Zinc phosphide will break down when it is exposed to water or moist soil in the environment. Any phosphine given off will be broken down by air. Zinc phosphide pellets may still release phosphine 5 weeks after being placed on damp soils, although the amount released depends on the formulation of the pellets.
Surefire Zinc Phosphide is registered for either aerial or calibrated ground application equipment.
