Surefire Couma Blocks Rodenticide (Coumatetralyl) COUMA-BLOCKS PCT

Description

Surefire Couma Blocks Rodenticide

Active Ingredient: Coumatetralyl @ 0.37g/kg

Similar or Comparable to Racumin Rat & Mouse Blocks (Bayer Cropscience Pty Ltd)

Surefire Couma Blocks Rodenticide is a ready-to-use bait block for the control of rats and mice with a decreased risk of secondary poisoning to pets & wildlife.  Couma Blocks contain Coumatetralyl, a first-generation anticoagulant that works through a multi-feed system. Unlike second and third-generation baits, coumatetralyl is metabolised quickly so dead rodents carry very low residues; this decreases the risk of secondary poisoning to pets or wildlife who may scavenge on the dead rodents.

Using the multi-feed approach, Surefire Couma Blocks will kill in a similar timeframe as a single feed bait (3-8 days) without the risk of bait shyness. Couma Blocks are formulated as wax blocks for better weather resistance. Couma blocks are useful in damp locations such as sewers or gutters, or outdoor locations where loose grain baits spoil quickly.

Rats and mice like to gnaw their teeth on hard surfaces so the wax blocks are ideal.

What is the application rate of Surefire Couma Blocks;

  • Mice & Rats (Domestic, industrial, wharf areas, farm buildings, dairies etc) – 1 to 2 blocks per bait site.
  • Rats (Field Crops including Sugar Cane, Macadamias and Pineapples) – 2 blocks per bait station.

Where can Surefire Couma Blocks be used;

  • Industrial Premises
  • Domestic Premises
  • Abattoirs (non-production Area)
  • Dairy – Milk Handling Area
  • Farm Buildings
  • Wharf Areas – General
  • Field Crops – Macadamia, Pineapple & Sugar Cane

Why choose Surefire Couma Blocks;

  • Contains the active ingredient Coumatetralyl.
  • Targets rodents with minimal risk of secondary poisoning to pets or wildlife (Low risk of Secondary Poisoning).
  • Formulated from a weather-resistant substance making this product is ideal for damp locations, including sewers and drains.
  • Highly palatable – no bait shyness.
  • Manufactured with a central hole so they can easily be tied with wire into bait stations etc.
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Registered for macadamia, sugar cane and pineapple plantations.
  • Contains Bitrex – a human taste deterrent.

    Found this just in time.

We were starting to get rats in the house roof as well as the stables. After 6 months of trying to control them with every raticide I could find, it became apparent that they had become resistant to everything! However, just before I called in the professionals, I checked to see what Specialist Sales had to offer. I’ve been purchasing products from them for 3 and a half years and have always been happy with their products, service and cost.

Once again, I wasn’t disappointed. The Couma blocks were effective within a few days and by the end of the week there were no rats (or poo) to be seen. Yee Ha!! Occasionally there has been evidence of a return visit, but after a couple of days it’s once again all clear. Phew!

    Thanks again Specialist Sales. Sally

Rats in ceiling space couldn’t get enough of the bait in first week, consumption has dropped off considerably now so will be assessing kill rate over next few weeks. Quick delivery from Specialist Sales to NSW Far Coast, so will look to their site for associated products.

Works well. Placed in rubbish bin, against brick wall. Each morning up to 3 mice in bin until no more. Just have to kill them.

    Kills rodents not secondary predators

    Helen

I rely on this product to kill rats and mice, but not the local owl population: it is so important to consider what may be affected by eating a poisoned rodent. I don’t have to worry about the chooks finding a dead mouse, which has happened many times: it is an effective rodenticide, and, not killing anything else!

    They work!

If these blocks aren’t working for you it’s not the blocks, it’s you! After following the directions it was just a matter of waiting. I admit I was skeptical after having the baits out for a week and still noticing rats but by day 8 there was a significant drop in activity. By the end of the second week, none at all. To top it off, although we kept our outdoor cat indoors for the first couple of weeks of treatment, the sneaky fat bastard did get himself a rat in week two, and guess what? Mr Garrison lives. So if I could give more than 5 stars I would.

    Good

It was easy to order, arrived quickly, and it works. I wore latex gloves to handle the baits and bait stations, and smeared a little bit of peanut butter on each block, using a plastic knife, before placing the blocks in the empty bait stations. A few weeks later, people in our building saw a poor giant dying rat on the footpath. It is good to know it works and that other animals won’t be killed through secondary poisoning.

Rats and mice do not eat this product. I have secured it in tubes with an alternative bait in the centre. These baits are untouched and the alternative is eaten fully. Rat and mice will go past this bait to eat a different one.

    Really works!

    Denise Shaw

We spread 10-15 pellets of Couma up in our ceiling cavity (where we could hear extensive mouse activity) and we could hear them being rolled around. Day 2 and one dead mouse outdoors on the lawn. We didn’t see another dead rodent, and there was nothing but silence in the ceiling. Waited for the bad smell of decaying mice to waft through the house… but none came. Bottom line, we don’t know if Couma did the trick, or if a spaceship came down from Mars and took all our vermin back with them, but we haven’t see or heard a mouse since. It’s quieter than a mouse, you could say.

excellent product, the rats/mice love it. I put some nails in a piece of wood and mounted some of the blocks to know it was being eaten, as the rodents want to take it with them.

It just works... no secondary poisoning

    Lance (verified owner)

I researched to find a rodenticide that would be effective, but not harm the local wildlife – lizards and owls in particular.
This bait does the trick. The rats and mice feed on it for a few days, then game over.
I’m a repeat purchaser because they just work, plus no secondary poisoning.

Hi Ann and thanks for your review. The Couma All-Weather Blocks have been very popular and many of our sales are to repeat buyers who are very happy with the results. Not sure why the rats would be avoiding your blocks but please ensure that you have eliminated, as far as practicable all alternative food sources and that when handling the blocks you do not contaminate the blocks (or the immediate area) with human smells as this can deter the rodents. Studies have shown rodents will monitor new baits until they are convinced they are safe without threats. Providing the rodents with some free food close to your blocks is a good way to check if they are still active in the area and also gets them used to the new blocks.

Surefire Couma Blocks Rodenticide contains the active ingredient Coumatetralyl, a type of anticoagulant rodenticide commonly used to control rodent populations. When rodents consume Coumatetralyl, it interferes with their blood clotting mechanism, causing them to bleed to death internally. The time it takes for rodents to die after consuming Coumatetralyl can vary depending on several factors, including the dosage, the size and species of the rodent, and the individual metabolism of the animal. Generally, it can take several days for the rodent to die after consuming a lethal dose of Coumatetralyl. During this time, the rodent may appear lethargic and weak and exhibit abnormal behaviour such as convulsions or seizures.

Even though the active ingredient used in Surefire Couma All-Weather Blocks Rodenticide (Coumatetralyl) has a low risk of secondary poisoning, the risk is still there.  The active ingredient is still, after all, a poison that does not become inert after killing the rodent.  The advantage of the Coumatetralyl is that compared to other actives is that the amount that animals and pets must consume to be severe is much higher.  If wildlife, including birdlife, feed on poisoned rodents or baits, poisoning can occur if enough of the residue is present.  If your dog eats the actual Couma All-Weather Block, poisoning is likely.  To the best of our knowledge, there are no rodenticide blocks that can be consumed safely by animals or pets, so care needs to be taken.

Tips For Use

Tips for Use:

  • Eliminate, as far as practicable, all alternative food sources.
  • If baits are eaten quickly, increase the number of baits.
  • Baiting for at least 2 weeks is necessary to reduce mouse or rat numbers but continue observation and bait replenishment until no more baits are taken.
  • Remove and destroy untaken bait at the conclusion of the rodent control program.
  • Do not place baits in the open unless in bait stations.
  • Do not graze or feed livestock on treated areas whilst bait is present.
  • Do not exceed 3m between bait stations for mice (or 9m for rats).
  • Do not place baits in any position accessible to children, livestock or domestic pets.
  • Do not feed the bait to either wild or domestic birds.

Baiting Strategies:

  • Locate bait stations around crop perimeters (particularly between the crop and grassy or bushy habitats), near obvious rat runs, and/or close to known rat hiding spots such as stumps, rocks, logs or burrows.
  • Bait stations must be put down several days before the start of the control program to give rats time to become acquainted with the station.
  • During the first week offer free feed to attract the rats.
  • The bait material must be placed in a bait station where it is not in direct contact with the ground and is not accessible to birds and other wildlife. Bait should be checked and replenished every 3 days until no more baits are taken.

Restraints:

  • Do not place baits in the open unless in bait stations.
  • Do not graze or feed livestock on treated areas whilst bait is present.
  • Do not place baits in any position accessible to children, livestock or domestic pets.

Storage:

  • Store in the original container tightly closed in a safe place.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.

Safety:

  • Poisonous if swallowed.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Do not inhale the dust.
  • If on the skin, and after each baiting, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
  • When using the product and preparing for use, wear elbow-length PVC gloves.
  • After use and before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms and face thoroughly with soap and water.
  • After each day of use wash gloves
  • Do not touch bait.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre.  Phone Australia 131126. Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) is antidotal.
