Description
Exilice Gold Dual Active Pour-On Lice Control for Sheep contains 35 g/L imidacloprid and 4 g/L abamectin. Abbey Laboratories Pty Ltd has registered it to treat and control susceptible strains of sheep body lice (Bovicola ovis). This includes synthetic pyrethroid-resistant lice, when producers apply it up to 7 days after shearing.
Sheep stay protected against re-infestation for 5 weeks when producers treat them within 24 hours of shearing. Furthermore, heavy rain does not affect efficacy. A scourable blue dye also identifies treated sheep.

Resistance management with Exilice Gold
Exilice Gold combines a neonicotinoid with a macrocyclic lactone (ML). Resistance may develop to any chemical. Therefore, ask your veterinarian about resistance testing. If you drench at the same time, choose a drench without an ML.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I use Exilice Gold on long wool before shearing?
A. The label does not allow it. Do not use it on unshorn sheep. Instead, treat sheep within 7 days of shearing.
Q. Does Exilice Gold control worms as well as lice?
A. The label claims lice control only. It makes no claim for internal worms. Therefore, use a separate drench without an ML.
Q. How long does Exilice Gold protect sheep against lice?
A. Sheep stay protected for 5 weeks when you treat them within 24 hours of shearing. However, do not mix treated sheep with lice free sheep for 6 weeks. Complete musters also help.
Q. What are the withholding periods for Exilice Gold?
A. The meat withholding period is 63 days, and the wool period is 6 months. The export slaughter interval is 84 days, so confirm it with Abbey Animal Health Pty Ltd. Do not use it on ewes which produce, or may produce, milk for human consumption.
Q. Can I treat lambs, or ewes with lambs at foot?
A. Do not treat lambs under 6 weeks of age or under 10 kg. Do not treat ewes with unshorn lambs at foot. Also avoid treating ewes less than 6 weeks before lambing.
Q. Is Exilice Gold comparable to Fennec Pour-On For Sheep?
A. Yes, for lice control. Both contain 35 g/L imidacloprid and 4 g/L abamectin in a 20 L pack. Both share the dose rate and the 5 week protection claim. However, the Fennec label also claims abamectin-sensitive worms, while Exilice Gold claims lice only. Abbey Laboratories Pty Ltd registers Exilice Gold, and Boehringer Ingelheim registers Fennec. Compare both labels before substituting.
