The unique Poly-S technology means the nitrogen is released over a period of two to three months to give you sustained growth. ProTurf puts state-of-the-art innovation to work for you.

What is Polyhaliste and why is it an important component of ProTurf Hi N fertiliser?

Polyhalite is a mineral containing four essential nutrients: potassium, magnesium, calcium and sulphur. As the name suggests, ‘poly’ (more than one) ‘halite’ (salt), is a complex crystal containing four minerals (S, Ca, Mg & P).

To grow and function well, turfgrass needs a balance of nitrogen and other key macronutrients.

  • Potassium is essential for turfgrass health and stress tolerance.
  • Calcium is needed for cell division and strong cell walls.
  • Magnesium for photosynthesis and improved turf colour.
  • Sulphur for protein synthesis.

This brings polyhalite into the picture. It provides all four essential macronutrients required by a grass plant alongside applications of nitrogen and phosphorus. When combined with controlled-release fertiliser technology, urea, a compound fertiliser, Polyhaliste results in healthy, even growth without surges. The turf responds quickly in all growing conditions, including hotter and cooler situations. The addition of magnesium significantly improves turf colour.

ProTurf’s controlled release technology allows for proper growth with no surges. The fertiliser’s uncoated portion ensures a quick response from the turf, even in cooler growing conditions. The typical response time after ProTurf Hi N has been applied is seven (7) days.

ProTurf Hi N Fertiliser is a balanced fertiliser that can be used all year and is suitable for all turf types.

    Answered by the admin

ProTurf Fertiliser is suitable for general sports turf areas, golf courses, parks, landscapes, and domestic turf areas, so it can be used on your lawn. It's recommended to be applied to dry foliage, and watering it post-application will give a faster initial effect. However, there is no specific requirement for how often to water outside of this, aside from what is required to keep your lawn healthy. The application should be completed after aeration.

ProTurf Fertiliser has no restrictions, restraints or precautions regarding use in areas where pets are or will be present. ProTurf Fertiliser is classified as not hazardous and is considered pet safe once applied to the turf.

  5. Q What setting should I use with Scotts Large Fertilizer Spreader to apply ProTurf Fertiliser?
Asked by Doug on October 1, 2022 3:30 pm
    Answered by the admin

Unfortunately, we are unsure of the measurement increments used by the Scotts Large Fertilizer Spreader.  As the recommended use rate for ProTurf Fertiliser is 2-3.5kg per 100m2, we suggest marking out the required area (i.e. 10m x 10m), selecting a mid-low setting on the spreader and seeing if the minimum 2kg is evenly applied over this area.  Adjustments can be made accordingly if more or less product needs to be metered out.  Note, though, that the ProTurf is a fine pellet and will flow and spread quite quickly, so a low setting is suggested as the starting point.

  7. Q What is the best time of the year to use ProTurf Fertiliser and how often?
Asked by Nassim Elyateem on March 30, 2022 6:53 am
    Answered by the admin

The best time to apply ProTurf Fertiliser is when the lawn starts to actively grow, once the lawn has needed a few regular mows, with the best times being early spring (depending on location & climate).  High quality, slow-release fertilisers such as ProTurf continue to feed your lawn for 2-3 months, so reapplication is not necessary until after this time has elapsed.  Applying a good fertiliser in Autumn will also help prepare the lawn for the winter season.

  9. Q What number setting on a Scots hand spreader is recommended when applying ProTurf Fertiliser?

    Answered by the admin

To achieve the 2-3.5kg per 100m2 it is recommended to set the Scots Hand Fertiliser Spinner (out of 5) between 3 & 5.  Take into account walking speed and distance of spread that relates to spinner speed to achieve the correct kg's/100m2.

  11. Q If I don't water it in and wait till next rain will the nitrogen or urea burn my lawn?
Asked by Larry O'brien on January 24, 2022 12:52 pm
    Answered by the admin

The ProTurf Fertiliser is controlled-release fertiliser.  If you don't water it in immediately and instead wait for rain, the likelihood of burning the grass is minimal due to the slow-release pellets.  Watering-in after application helps with product dispersion and gives a faster initial effect.
