Description

Bomectin Injection for Cattle and Pigs Active Ingredient: Ivermectin @ 10mg/mL

Similar or comparable to Ivomec Injection For Cattle ( Boehringer)

Bomectin Injection for Cattle and Pigs is a ready-to-use broad-spectrum antiparasitic injection for cattle and pigs containing Ivermectin. Ivermectin is a member of the macrocyclic lactone (ML) family, which binds and interferes with invertebrate nerve and muscle cells causing parasite paralysis and death. Ivermectin has a broad-spectrum activity against both adult and larval stages of parasite nematodes.

  • Bomectin Injection offers reliable parasite control for both internal and external parasites. With the convenient one-shot injection, there is no splash-off so 100% of the treatment enters the animal for optimum results.
  • Bomectin Injection will treat and control internal parasites including gastrointestinal roundworms, lungworms, eyeworms, sucking and biting lice, mites and cattle tick in cattle, and gastrointestinal roundworms, kidney worms, lungworms, lice and mites in pigs.

Bomectin Injection for Cattle has sustained activity for:

  • Ostertagia spp. (Small brown stomach worm) and Cooperia spp. (Small Intestinal worm) acquired up to 7 days after treatment; and
  • Dictyocaulus viviparus (Lungworm) and Chrysomya bezziana (Screw Worm fly) acquired up to 14 days after treatment.

Indications: Bomectin Injection for Cattle and Pigs when used at the recommended dose level of 1mL per 50kg bodyweight (cattle) or 1mL per 33kg bodyweight (pigs) provides control of the following parasites: Cattle:

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms: adult and immature – Ostertagia ostertagi( including third and fourth stage larvae and inhibited immatures), O. lyrata, Haemonchus placei(including third and fourth stage larvae), Trichostrongylus axei, T. colubriformis, Cooperia spp. (including third and fourth stage larvae), Bunostomum phlebotomum (including third and fourth stage alrvae) and adults of Nematodirus spathiger, Nemotodirus helvetianus, Strongyloides papillosus, Toxocara vitulorum and Trichuris spp.
  • Lungworms: adults and immature – Dictylocaulus viviparus (including inhibited stages.)
  • Eyeworms: adult Thelazia spp.
  • Sucking Lice: Linognathus vituli, Haematopinus eurystemus and Solenopotes capillatus. Does not provide full control of cattle biting louse Bovicola (Damalinia) bovis.
  • Screw worm Fly: parasitic larval stages of Chrysomya bezziana (not reported in Australia but present in Papua New Guinea).
  • Mites: Sarcoptes scabiei var. bovis
  • Cattle Tick: Boophilus microplus

Persistent Activity: At the recommended dose rate, Bomectin effectively controls infections with Ostertagia spp. and Cooperia spp acquired up to 14 days after treatment. When used as directed for control of internal parasites of cattle, Bomectin concurrently aids in control of: Mites: Chorioptes bovis Pigs:

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms: Ascaris suum (adults and L4 immature stage), Hyostrongylus rubidus (adults and L4 immature stage), Oesophagostomum spp. adults and L4 immature stage), Strongyloides ransomi (adults)*,Trichuris suis (adults).

  • Lungworms: Metastrongylus spp. (adults).

The label for Bomectin Injection For Cattle and Pigs (Ivermectin) advises using the contents within 28 days of first broaching the container.  Bomectin is not required to be stored in a fridge.  It only needs to be stored below 25oC and in a carton to protect it from light.

  7. Q Can this be given to livestock orally
Asked by Mike Simpson on November 2, 2021 4:49 pm
    Answered by the admin

Bomectin Injection is only registered for and recommended to be administered by subcutaneous injection.  The product is formulated to administer the correct amount of Ivermectin to the host animal via this application method only.  If administered orally then it will be passed by the animal and the amount of Ivermectin required to treat parasites may not be realised.

Tips For Use

Tips for Use:

  • Injections should be given using 16- to 18-gauge needles, regardless of administration route.
  • Needles (12-18mm) in length are suggested for SC injections.

Cattle:

  • Administer under the skin into the neck region and preferable high up behind the ear.  Dose rate to be based on the heavier cattle in each group (bulls, cows, steers, calves etc).  Do not underdose. Treatment of very young animals (less than 40kg bodyweight) is generally not warranted.  When there is a large variation in size within the group, draft into two or more lines based on bodyweight, to avoid overdosing.
  • Do not underdose. Cattle should be weighed with either scales or with a weighband.
  • Do not use in cattle during lactation or less than 28 days before calving when milk or milk products are to be consumed for human consumption or processing.
  • To avoid tissue residues, take care to estimate the weights and dosages in young animals
  • Administer Bomectin subcutaneously (SC) in cattle into the neck region, preferably high up behind the ear. As an alternative, anywhere on the neck away from valuable carcass muscle is suitable.

Pigs:

  • Administer Bomectin by Intramuscular (im) Injection Into the Neck Region, Preferably High up Behind the Ear.
  • A Single Treatment of 0.3m L per 10kg Bodyweight (1m L per 33kg) Should Be Given.
  • Pigs Should Be Weighed with Either Scales or A Weighband.  Piglets Weighing 16kg or Less Should Be Dosed in Accordance with The Dose / Weight Table as Per the Directions of Use.

General Directions (cattle & Pigs):

  • Worm parasites may develop resistance to any anthelmintic. If this is suspected please contact your local veterinary practitioner or advise the manufacturer.
  • Not to be used for any purpose or in any manner contrary to this label unless authorised under appropriate legislation.
  • Animals should be restrained to ensure that treatment can be properly administered.
  • When the temperature of the injectable solution is below 5 c its viscosity increases and increased effort may be required for Injecting. Syringeability can be improved by gently warming the injecting equipment and product to 15 c.

Storage:

  • Store below 25 degrees celsius (Air Conditioning). Store bottle in carton away from light.

Safety Directions:

  • Poisonous if swallowed. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131126.
  • If additional hazard information is required, refer to the Safety Data Sheet SDS.
