A24 Rat & Mouse Trap

The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap is a self-resetting trapping system designed so that the trap waits for the pest to activate it, instead of waiting for you to clear and re-lure it after each strike.  This is a constant control system, one that suppresses the existing pest population and is always available to manage the inevitable reinvasion.

The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap is powered using compressed CO² gas and has no risk of secondary poisoning to non-target species such as wildlife, pets, livestock and working animals.

The Leaf Trigger and the Strike mechanism give the Goodnature A24 Rat & Mouse Trap its certified A-Class humane status.

Description

A24 Rat & Mouse Trap

The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap is a self-resetting trapping system designed so that the trap waits for the pest to activate it, instead of waiting for you to clear and re-lure it after each strike.  This is a constant control system, one that suppresses the existing pest population and is always available to manage the inevitable reinvasion.  The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap is powered using compressed CO² gas.

The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap technology combines superb design engineering principles and behavioural science with the highest manufacturing standards to deliver a trap that will kill up to 24 times per 16g Gas Canister.  The lures are developed to be long life to ensure optimal field performance for minimal maintenance effort. Because the lures are toxin-free there is no risk of secondary poisoning to non-target species such as wildlife, pets, livestock and working animals. The Leaf Trigger and the Strike mechanism give the Goodnature A24 Rat & Mouse Trap its certified A-Class humane status.

Why choose the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap;

  • Automatic – No more checking and resetting traps. Get the trap that resets automatically, 24 times per 16g gas canister.
  • A trap that’s always active to give you constant control against rats and mice.
  • Kind – Even pests deserve to be treated kindly. Goodnature traps mean a quick death.  The A24 Trap is certified A-Class humane.

  • Easy set up and move around.
  • Can be used indoors and outdoors.
  • Designed for the toughest environmental conditions.
  • The Goodnature Chirp App is available for Android and Apple devices.
  • New Zealand Made – A high-quality product made in Wellington, NZ.

How does the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap work;

  1. The targeted long-life lure attracts rodents into the trap
  2. The rodent moves the trigger to get to the lure, firing the trap.
  3. The trap clears and resets immediately after an A-Class humane kill
  4. The long-life lure continues to attract rodents for constant control.
  5. Different species scavenge the dead carcasses from below the trap or they can be removed and disposed of by other means.

The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap with Chirp kit has everything you need for up to six months of control against rats and mice. Powered by a Co2 gas canister, the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap automatically kills 24 rats or mice,  one after the other, before you need to replace the gas canister. The A24 Trap dispenses fresh, non-toxic chocolate lure automatically for up to six months, keeping your trap attractive to passing rats and mice. This kit also includes Chirp, a Bluetooth-enabled device that connects to your smartphone, counting each pest your trap has killed so you know you’re getting on top of your problem. The A24 Trap is certified humane.

What optional extras can be purchased for the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap;

  • A24 Trap Stand
  • Co2 Gas Canister 16-gram
  • A24 Pre-Feed Chocolate Lure (200gm Pouch)
  • A24 6 month gas & lure top-up kit (1 x 50gm lure refill & 1 x Co2 gas canister for 6 months trapping)

A24 Trap Stand:

  • The Goodnature A24 Trap Stand is great for when your rodent problem is indoors or you need to move your trap around to target multiple rodent hot spots. It’s perfect for when you don’t have a tree, post or wall space to attach the trap to, like in gardens, ceilings, sheds or under your sink. Plus, the tray makes it easy to dispose of dead pests without touching them.

Gas Canister:

  • The gas canister is the all-important part that powers the A24 trap.  Goodnature chose the highest possible quality made of recyclable steel and a dab of silicone to keep the trap running smoothly. To maximise the life of the trap, you should use the Goodnature-branded canisters. Each canister contains 16 g of Co2. A single gas canister powers the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap for up to 24 kills.

A24 6-month gas & lure top-up kit:

  • The Goodnature A24 6-month top-up kit ensures the trap always has a fresh gas canister & chocolate lure available, increasing trapping success. The kit comes with a 50gm non-toxic, long-life chocolate lure, plus a CO2 Gas Canister 16-gram, so you’re ready to go for 6 months of trapping (nb – 1 x gas canister allows for up to 24 activations/kills).  Once installed and activated, the lure pump automatically dispenses fresh long-life lures for up to six months. Totally toxin-free means it is safe to use around pets, wildlife and children, and there’s no risk of secondary poisoning.

Lure Pouch 200g – Chocolate:

  • Goodnature Chocolate Lure is long-life, toxin-free and tastes and smells of chocolate. It’s so attractive to rats that 24 out of 24 choose it as their last meal! Because our lure is toxin-free, it’s safe to use around pets, working animals and livestock. The lure can be used to pre-feed the area around your trap to encourage rats and mice toward the trap.  The chocolate lure used in the traps isn’t an attractant to domestic animals or birds so they generally aren’t interested in it as a food source.

Questions and answers from customers

    I’ve seen something similar in National Park near Rotorua NZ and they worked really well. My only concern for use here in Australia is will it also target our native species? I presently use the multi catch traps so I can check what I’ve caught and have found Antechinus in there numerous times. These cute and friendly little critters I release but I’d hate to think they were attracted to the A24 trap along with other natives. Have the A24s been tested with Australian natives as they are protected by law?

    The A24 Rat and Mouse Trap are certainly not designed for and not intended to be used to harm Australian Native species. Unfortunately, zero non-target kills for any effective pest management tool is challenging and can't be guaranteed. The manufacturers encourage you to contact them ([email protected]) if you have specific concerns about harming non-target species, as every area and native animal is uniquely different.

    Some pre-trapping tips that may help include;

    (1) Use your Rodent Detector Cards for several days before trap installation. While these cards help find optimal trap locations, they may also provide insights about what species are in the vicinity and show interest in the rodent lure.
    (2) Once you've established ideal trap placement (where rodents are feeding, as evidenced by the cards), set up your trap but do not screw in the gas canister. You'll be able to see what species interact with the trap without fear of it striking them (consider using a camera to help monitor activity). Once you've established no interaction of concern, add the gas canister to make the trap 'live'.
    (3) If you see evidence of non-target species interacting with the trap, consider installing the trap indoors (again, use detector cards to support ideal trap placement) or the seasonality of your trapping. Autumn/beginning of winter are classic breeding times for rodents, and cooler months will draw them indoors (into roof spaces, garages, basements and sheds).

    The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap manufacturers designed these devices to help with pest management affecting sensitive native animals and their environment. The last thing they want is non-target deaths and would like to speak with you if you have concerns ([email protected])

  2. How does it actually kill the rodents? Are they gassed? How do you know when the gas bottle has run out? Your picture shows a rat up the trap; does that mean it could be positioned too high for a mouse to reach?

    The pest climbs into the A24 Rat & Mouse Trap and touches the trigger, which causes the gas-powered striker to fire with significant impact to the head/neck of the animal. The A24 Rat & Mouse Trap Gas bottle can be triggered 24 times per CO2 canister. It is recommended to replace the lure and CO2 canister every six months, even if it is not triggered 24 times. The Chirp kit supplied with the trap syncs trap information to an app on your phone, including the number of times the trap has been triggered.

    It is recommended to position the trap 12cm (about a hand width) from the ground. This is an ideal height to trap both rats and mice. 12cm is low to the ground and easy for pests to get into the trap. It is much more difficult for other animals like cats, dogs and chickens to access the trap at this height.

Tips For Use

Placement of the trap:

In your A24 Rat & Mouse Trap Kit, you may have noticed some small plastic cards, called Rodent Detector Cards. We include these with all of our A24 Traps as they’re a great way to find the best location, and give local pests a taste of the lure inside your trap. Place these in a variety of locations around your property, where you think pests might be feeding. Remember, you’re looking for a safe, hidden position. An animal needs to feel safe enough to stop and explore the trap, so it can’t be out in the open. This might be under your house, in a shed or even in your ceiling. It could also be as simple as selecting a tree with a little more cover, or a location with little foot traffic.

Use Rodent Detector Cards to find the best placement for your trap:

It’s critical your trap is set up in a position where rats are comfortable to feed. This needs to be slightly hidden, so it’s not exposed where prey animals may see the pest. Place a few detector cards out and monitor the engagement on these. Sometimes the best placement might be outside of the coop, so it’s important to experiment with Rodent Detector Cards before setting up your trap as the best place may not be where you expect!

How high to set an A24 Trap:

We recommend setting your A24 trap 12cm above the ground, in the most vertical position possible. This is about a hand width off the ground or floor. It is the optimal position for the pest you want to kill and a difficult position for other pests, pets or wildlife to reach.  By keeping the A24 vertical you can be sure that the pest you are targeting will climb into the trap completely (not half in, half out) and be killed humanely.

Eliminating food sources in chicken coops:

It’s one of the hardest steps, especially when trapping in a chicken coop, but without removing chicken feed, pests will have no reason to seek out the lure in your trap. Using a feed dispenser, which requires the chickens to engage with it, will ensure that all feed is eaten and there isn’t food left laying on the ground. When feeding food scraps, consider if there are any ways you can limit when this is left out and how the chickens can access it. When the food is removed, pests will be forced to look for your lure and this will be when you have the most success.

Setting the trap at the correct height in a chicken coop:

The last thing you want is for a chicken to be injured because of your pest trap. Setting it at 12cm from the ground, and keeping the trap vertical, makes it very difficult for chickens to engage with the trap. The good news is, that chickens generally aren’t interested in the lure within an A24 trap as it’s designed specifically for our target species, so you don’t have to worry about them seeking it out as a food source.  We don’t recommend using a trap stand within a chicken coop as it increases the chances of a chicken being injured by the trap due to the angle it’s on.
