Tips For Use

  • Best coverage and reduced seed wastage is achieved by using a seed spreader for the size of the area.

Maintenance:

  • Mowing heights are recommended at 25-50mm.
  • Frequent mowing will keep thatch build-up to a reasonable level.
  • It is essential for best results to maintain adequate moisture in  the seed bed.

Kikuyu grass is a deep-rooted perennial that spreads by rhizomes and stolons. It forms a low growing turf that is cold tolerant and can be grown from Northern Queensland to Tasmania.

For best performance it needs more than 900mm of annual rainfall and will respond well to fertilisers. Too much fertilising can, however, create a significant thatch layer resulting in spongy turf.

Whittet kikuyu is a taller variety with broader leaves and thicker stems, which persists well under low fertility. Kikuyu is a tough, drought tolerant grass that needs to be sown when summer temperatures reach 25-35 degrees.
