Description

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator

Active Ingredient: Trinexapac-Ethyl @ 250g/L

Similar or comparable to Astro 250EC Growth Regulator (Turf Culture)

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator is for the reduction of leaf and stem growth of grass species, as an aid in turf management and as an aid in Winter Grass management. Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator is used to regulate turf growth and improve the quality of larger areas, economically.

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator is the original, trusted and economical turf growth regulator for large areas that optimises the mowing effort and improves turf quality. Primo 250EC offers a proactive approach to turf management. Instead of simply reacting to issues as they arise, it fundamentally improves the health and resilience of the turf from the inside out, leading to a beautiful, low-maintenance lawn that is better equipped to thrive in a variety of conditions.

Why choose Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator?

  • Overall improvement of turf quality and colour.
  • An effective growth and cost management tool through savings from reduced mowing time, clippings disposal and less machinery wear.
  • A versatile option for use on turf farms, bunker edges, roadsides and challenging to manage areas.
  • Trusted EC formulation matches the uptake limits in turf to avoid phytotoxicity.
  • Reduced mowing frequency (up to 50%).
  • Improved turf density and vigour. Increased density not only creates a more lush and uniform appearance but also enhances the turf’s ability to outcompete weeds and withstand foot traffic.
  • Enhanced colour and aesthetics (the concentration of chlorophyll in the shorter, more compact leaf blades results in a deeper, richer green hue).
  • Increased stress tolerance due to a more robust root system and denser canopy.
  • Better water and nutrient use efficiency (An extensive root system allows the turf to effectively absorb water and nutrients from the soil, leading to a more efficient use of vital resources.).
  • Improved playing surfaces (denser and more uniform growth creates a superior playing surface).
  • Backed by the proven reliability of Syngenta Turf

What turf species can Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator be used on?

    • Bahia Grass
    • Buffalo Grass
    • Carpet Grass
    • Common Couch
    • Couch hybrids and varieties
    • Kikuyu
    • Queensland Blue Couch
    • Zoysia
  • Cool-Season Turf Grasses
    • Bent Grass
    • Fescue
    • Perennial Ryegrass

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator can be continuously and safely used for up to 12 months of the year, as long as active turf growth occurs. Tracking the growth rate of the turf with the rate of Primo 250EC applied is essential to manage a consistent regulation effect for the entire application period.

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator is an emulsion concentrate (EC) with minimal odour. It mixes completely with water and may be tank mixed with many commonly used fungicides and liquid fertilisers. Physical compatibility of mixtures is not a guarantee that a tank mix will be safe to turf (eg Primo 250EC is compatible with broadleaf herbicides containing MCPA, 2,4-D amine or dicamba, but the tank mix can cause transient yellowing after application).

Primo 250EC Turf Growth Regulator contains Trinexapac-Ethyl. Turf growth regulators formulated with Trinexapac-Ethyl have become a cornerstone of modern turf management, renowned for their ability to produce healthier, more resilient, and aesthetically pleasing lawns with significantly less maintenance. Their effectiveness lies in a clever manipulation of the grass’s natural growth processes, leading to a cascade of benefits that both homeowners and professional turf managers find highly desirable.

At its core, Trinexapac-Ethyl works by inhibiting the production of gibberellic acid, a plant hormone responsible for cell elongation in the stems and leaves of grass. By blocking the final stage of this hormone’s biosynthesis, the regulator doesn’t stop growth altogether but rather redirects the plant’s energy. Instead of expending resources on vertical shoot growth, the grass focuses on developing a denser, more robust root system and increasing its lateral spread

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • Primo 250EC should be applied to actively growing turf at least 6 hours before or after mowing.
  • Good mowing management leading up to application is required to achieve a good quality turf surface and to obtain the best results from Primo 250EC.

Growth Regulation:

  • The recommended use rates are designed to give approximately a 50% reduction in clippings over a 4 to 6-week period.
  • In practice, the amount of growth regulation achieved will vary between situations due to environmental conditions and management practices.
  • To some extent, therefore, application rates will need to be adjusted to match growing conditions, management practices and the amount of growth regulation required by the turf manager.
  • Repeat applications can be made as soon as turf resumes growth or more suppression is required.

Poa annua Management:

  • Different grasses vary in their sensitivity to Primo 250EC.
  • Since Poa annua is more sensitive to Primo 250EC than Bent Grass, Primo 250EC can be used to reduce the competitiveness of Poa annua in Bent Grass golf greens.
  • Primo 250EC can be integrated into existing Poa annua control programs.
  • Low rates of Primo 250EC (that provide growth suppression of Poa annua, but not Bent Grass) applied during peak growth periods may enable a slow transition in the golf green sward composition away from Poa annua and towards a higher percentage of Bent Grass.

Bahia Grass (Paspalum notatum) Management:

  • Different grasses vary in their sensitivity to Primo 250EC and Monument Liquid.
  • Bahia Grass is very sensitive to the combination, resulting in control of seedheads as well as vegetative growth suppression.
  • Apply the combination as soon as seedheads start to form or when it becomes a regular mowing intervention issue, usually during October to January.
  • Apply at 4-week intervals after mowing.

Mixing:

  • Add the required quantity of Primo 250EC directly to a spray tank containing two-thirds of the required spray volume.
  • Add the rest of the water and ensure the mix is thoroughly agitated before application.
  • Primo 250EC can be tank mixed with Monument Liquid.

Application:

  • Ensure even application in order to achieve even growth reduction.
  • Avoid overlapping sprays.
  • Application Volume:
  • Apply Primo 250EC in 100 to 500 L/ha of water, using suitable flat fan nozzles.
  • Application volume should be adequate to ensure thorough and even coverage of the turf leaves and penetration to the crowns.
  • In higher cut turf (≥15 mm), a significant spray shielding effect can occur, impacting negatively on spray penetration and even coverage at low application volumes.
  • Knapsack:
    • It is important to apply the correct quantity of Primo 250EC to a known area of turf.
    • Apply between 2 and 10 L of water/100 m2 of turf.
    • Preferably, use flat fan nozzles and ensure even coverage is achieved.
  • Golf Course Greens:
    • Ensure product placement as uniformly as possible onto leaves and into crowns.
    • Ideal application volume should be 350 to 500 L/ha.
    • For best results, use medium [XR Teejet* (11004 or 11005)] to coarse [Turbo Teejet* or AIXR Teejet* (11004 or 11005)] nozzles, at 5 km/h and 3 bar pressure.
    • Boom height should not exceed 50 cm above the ground.
  • All Other Turf Areas:
    • Ensure product placement as uniformly as possible onto leaves and into crowns.
    • The ideal application volume should be 200 to 500 L/ha.
    • For best results, use medium [XR Teejet (11004 to 11008)] to coarse [Turbo Teejet or AIXR Teejet (11004 or 11005)] nozzles, at 8 km/h and 3 bar pressure.
    • Boom height should not exceed 50 cm above the ground.
  • Bahia Grass Suppression and Seedhead Control:
    • Ensure product placement as uniformly as possible onto leaves and into crowns.
    • The ideal application volume should be 200 to 500 L/ha. For best results, use coarse [Turbo Teejet or AIXR Teejet (11004 or 11005)] nozzles at 8 km/h and 3 bar pressure.
    • Boom height should not exceed 50 cm above the ground.
  • Non-ionic Surfactants:
    • For Bahia Grass suppression and seedhead control when tank mixing with Monument Liquid, use Agral (600 g ai/L) at 0.42% v/v or 420 mL/100 L spray mix.
    • Alternatively, use other quality non-ionic surfactants (1000 g ai/L formulations) at 0.25% v/v or 250 mL/100 L spray mix.

Restraints:

  • Do not use on bowling greens.
  • Do not apply to turf recovering from wear, renovation or turf affected by disease, waterlogging or other stresses.
  • Do not use where growth regulatory effects are likely following the application of a fungicide or any other material.
  • Do not apply to turf going into or coming out of dormancy.
  • Do not apply if rainfall is expected within 1 hour, and do not irrigate turf for at least 1 hour after application.
  • Do not apply to Kentucky Bluegrass as damage may occur.

  • For common couch, hybrid couch and kikuyu turfgrasses only: Primo 250EC is compatible with some formulations of products containing the following chemicals: 2,4-D amine, bromoxynil, MCPA/bromoxynil/dicamba, MCPA ester/bromoxynil, MCPA ester/bromoxynil/dicamba, MCPP/2,4-D amine/dicamba or MCPP/dicamba.
  • However, some transient discolouration of the treated turf may occur after application of a tank mix.
  • For the treatment of broadleaf weeds in turf with herbicides other than those indicated above, it is recommended to apply Primo 250EC and the broadleaf weed herbicides separately, allowing at least 10 days between an application of Primo 250EC and the broadleaf weed herbicides.

Re-Entry Period:

  • Do not enter treated areas without protective clothing until the spray has dried.
  • Do not allow the public to enter treated areas until the spray has dried.

Protection Of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans And Environment:
