Viper Pour-On Lousicide for Sheep contains Thiacloprid. This active ingredient is a valuable tool for managing lice and preventing the development of resistance to other insecticides. It is a highly effective lice control ingredient for sheep for several reasons:
- Potent Insecticide: Thiacloprid belongs to the neonicotinoid class of insecticides, which are known for their potent action against a wide range of insects, including lice. It works by disrupting the nervous system of the lice, leading to paralysis and death.  Â
- High Efficacy: Studies have shown that thiacloprid is highly effective against various life stages of sheep lice, including nymphs and adults. This helps to break the lice life cycle and prevent re-infestation.
- Long Residual Activity: Thiacloprid provides long-lasting protection against lice. When applied as a pour-on or backliner, it can remain effective for several weeks, continuing to kill lice that hatch from eggs after the initial treatment.  Â
- Rainfastness: Thiacloprid formulations are designed to be rainfast (moderate rainfall before or after treatment), meaning they remain effective even after rainfall. This is important for sheep that are exposed to the elements.
- Low Toxicity to Sheep: Thiacloprid has a good safety profile for sheep when used according to label instructions.
How does Thiacloprid work:
Thiacloprid works by binding to specific receptors in insects’ nervous systems, causing overstimulation and ultimately leading to paralysis and death. This mode of action is different from that of other commonly used lousicides, making Viper Pour-On Lousicide for Sheep an important option for resistance management.
