  • This product is for application to skin surface only, do not give orally or parenterally.
  • Coopers Maverick is not recommended to be used off-shears on sheep shorn with “cover’ (snow) combs, as a reduction in efficacy is likely to occur.
  • Coopers Maverick is not recommended to be used in ewes within 6 weeks of lambing or ewes with unshorn lambs at foot, as a reduction in lice efficacy is likely to occur.
  • Coopers Maverick is not recommended to be used on housed (shedded) sheep that will not be exposed to natural sunlight for the first two months following treatment.
  • The dye used in Coopers Maverick to identify treated sheep required exposure to natural sunlight to degrade following treatment.
  • The dose is 10mL for each 10kg of liveweight.
  • Alway dose on a live weight basis.

Questions and answers from customers

Can I use Maverick Pour-On For Sheep to control lice and stick fleas on chickens?

  1. Q Can I use Maverick Pour-On For Sheep to control lice and stick fleas on chickens?
Asked by Mark on October 9, 2024 1:12 pm
    Answered by the admin

Maverick Pour-On for Sheep is only registered for use in sheep. As we and the supplier are bound by APVMA regulations, we can't recommend off-label usage. Any off-label usage would void any directions, efficacy guarantees, and safety and withhold precautions on the label. As it's designed for skin contact post-shearing and is only registered for sheep, we would not recommend this for use in chickens.

  2. Can Maverick Pour-On For Sheep be used on Dorper sheep?

  3. Q Can Maverick Pour-On For Sheep be used on Dorper sheep?
Asked by John m on November 26, 2023 8:21 pm
    Answered by the admin

Maverick Pour-On For Sheep must be applied within 24 hours of shearing, and as Dorpers do not get shorn, it is not recommended to be used on Dorpers or other shedding sheep breeds. A suitable option for the Dorper's would be Flexolt Oral Lice Treatment For Sheep.

  4. My ewes will be treated with Marerick Pour-On off shears in the first week of August 2022. My ewes do not show to have lice on them, but they have not had any lice treatment for at least 5 years. I am only treating them as a precaution. There has been an unusually wet winter and the sheep are only grazing a very small area of their paddocks therefore worms and lice may become a problem. 80% of the ewes will have lambs at foot that are April / May drop. They will not be shorn. The lambs will be marked on the 8th & 9th August. The lambs will not be shorn until October. Is there anything that I can treat the lambs with while they are in hand or being lamb marked?

Maverick Pour-On For Sheep requires skin contact with the sheep to be effective.  Providing this can be accomplished with the Dorpers, then it will be successful.

The application rate for Maverick Pour-On depends on the bodyweight of the animal being treated.  The dose rate is calculated at 10mL per 10kg live weight of the sheep/lamb.  Full directions of use instructions, including application instructions, can be found in the Maverick Pour-On listing on the Specialist Sales website by clicking on the 'Directions Of Use' tab.

Maverick Pour-On for sheep must be applied within 24-hours of shearing.  The veterinary advice for Maverick Pour-On is that the treated sheep be quarantined away from the remainder of your other sheep for six weeks (best practice).  This allows Maverick to be completely effective.  The treated sheep do not have to remain in the yards on feed as a clean paddock where they are on their own is sufficient for quarantine purposes.

Tips For Use

General Directions:

  • Coopers Maverick is not recommended for use in species other than sheep.
  • Use only in well ventilated areas or outdoors.  Close container when not in use.
  • Coopers Maverick is a short acting, non-residual product.  Maximum lice kill at treatment and strict quarantine conditions for treated sheep are necessary for effective lice control.  It is recommended that a thorough muster be conducted so that no untreated sheep remain. Boundary fences should be checked to ensure animals are contained and stray sheep are excluded.  Treated sheep must be kept separate from lice infested sheep or sheep of unknown lice status. For effective lice control, every sheep on the property should be treated at the same time.
  • Efficacy of Coopers Maverick against sheep body lice or abamectin sensitive nematodes is not adversely affected if applied when the skin is wet or if moderate rainfall occurs shortly after treatment.  The antiparasitic activity of abamectin will be impaired if the formulation is applied to areas of skin with significant soiling with mud, dust, urine or faeces.
  • The antiparasitic activity of abamectin will be impaired if the formulation is applied to roughly shorn sheep.
  • Use dosing equipment compatible with Coopers Maverick.  Follow manufacturers directions for use and care of equipment.  Other dosing equipment may be incompatible, resulting in locking, incorrect dosage and leakage.

Restraints:

  • Do not use in ewes which are producing or may in the future produce milk for human consumption or processing.
  • Do not use on unshorn sheep or shorn sheep more than 24 hours after shearing.
  • Do not use on lambs less than 10kg bodyweight.

Contraindications:

  • This product is contraindicated for use on lambs under 6 weeks of age.
  • This product should not be used on severely sick, debilitated or dying animals.
  • This product should not be used on sheep which have not been cleanly shorn for any reason eg. Mycotic Dermatitis

Precautions:

  • Treat animals in accordance with good agricultural practice.  Sheep should not be treated in extremely hot weather (>40 degrees celsius) or if under heat stress.

Side Effects:

  • This product may irritate the skin of some sheep leading to visible treatment lines and a ‘crusting’ confined to the staple tip, which may still be evident in the following shearing.

Safety Directions:

  • Harmful if inhaled or swallowed.
  • Do not inhale vapour.
  • Will irritate eyes.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • When using the product, wear elbow-length chemical resistant gloves and goggles.
  • If product in eyes, wash it out immediately with water.
  • Was hands after use.
  • After each days use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.

First Aid Instructions:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre Phone Australia 13 11 26.
  • If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly.
  • Additional information is in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Wool Rehandling Period:

  • Do not re-handle sheep for 7 days unless wearing cotton overalls or equivalent clothing and chemical resistant gloves.  Clothing must be laundered after each days use.

Storage:

  • Store below 30 degrees celsius (Room Temperature) in the tightly closed, original container in a cool dry place.  Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
