    • Repeat treatment at intervals of no more than 19 – 21 days as part of the strategic tick control program.
    • For Paralysis ticks and NZ Cattle ticks, treat every ten (10) days from the first appearance of ticks.

Tips For Use

General Instructions (Cattle, Horses):

  • Bayticol is effective against sensitive strains of cattle tick, but resistance may develop to any tickicide.
  • Resistance testing of your ticks is recommended if a lowered level of control is experienced.
  • Bayticol should be used at intervals of not more than 19-21 days to control cattle ticks (Boophilus microplus).
  • Control is not adversely affected by rainfall a few hours after treatment.
  • Bayticol controls Paralysis Tick (Ixodes holocyclus) and New Zealand cattle tick (Haemaphysalis longicornis) on cattle and horses. The treatment interval should be ten (10) days to control these ticks when active.
  • Bayticol is compatible with externally applied Buffalo Fly Sprays, vaccination, and normal management procedures such as castration and dehorning.
  • Bayticol may be used in water of any hardness. Softening agents should not be used.

Dip and Spray Management (Cattle, Horses)

  1. Volume.
    • The volume of the dip or sump should be accurately measured.
    • Relevant volume levels should be marked on the dip wall or a dipstick.
    • Sumps should be maintained in near-full condition.
    • For efficient tick control, replenish before volume falls below recommended levels. (See Table).
  1. Mixing.
    • Add required concentrate to twice its volume of water in a bucket, mix, and then pour along the length of the dip or across the surface of the sump.
    • Stir thoroughly. In a plunge dip, use 20-25 cattle as stirrers.
    • These must be dipped again.
    • A spray-race sump should be stirred with a paddle and agitated vigorously with the pump.
    • It is essential that the dip be stirred at the commencement of each day’s dipping and after every replenishment.
  1. Sampling.
    • Stir dip or sump before sampling.
    • In a plunge dip, the sample should be taken from 1 metres below the surface at the jump end as the last animal passes through the dip.
    • In a spray race, on completion, allow drainings to return to the sump, stir with paddle and pump and sample from below the surface immediately.

Reinforcement of dips is not generally necessary. However, if through flooding or neglect, the active constituent concentration is found to be below 60 mg per litre, reinforce the dip back to the charging rate (75mg per litre).

Recommended Treatment Program:

  • Cattle tick treatment should commence on the first signs of ticks on cattle.
  • Bayticol Dip and Spray should be used at 21-day intervals.
  • It is important that treatment is used at intervals of not more than 19 – 21 days as part of a strategic tick control program to reduce egg and larvae numbers on the pasture.
  • Monitor efficacy and, where practical, use in a rotational program to slow the development of resistance.
  • In areas where the Paralysis tick and NZ cattle tick are a problem, the first treatment should occur as soon as they become active, usually in late winter or early spring.
  • Treat cattle and horses every ten (10) days from the first appearance of these multi-host ticks.
  • Animals should be checked routinely, especially young calves, foals and dogs.
  • Bayticol Dip and Spray is effective against sensitive strains of cattle tick, but resistance may develop to any tickicide.
  • If the lowered level of control is experienced, resistance testing of your ticks is recommended.

Precautions and Contraindications:

  • Sick or exhausted cattle, horses and dogs should not be dipped.
  • Exercise normal care when handling stock.
  • Dip young animals separately. Individual horses may be sensitive to pyrethroids – hose down thoroughly if a reaction is observed.
