Why is Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorus and Iron important for turfgrass;

Nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus are all important nutrients for turfgrass growth and health. In Turf Gold Fertiliser, each of these nutrients are included in an effective ratio and play specific roles in promoting the growth and vitality of turfgrass.

Nitrogen (N) is essential for turfgrass growth because it is a key component of chlorophyll, the green pigment in plant leaves responsible for photosynthesis. Nitrogen also forms amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins necessary for plant growth and development.

Potassium (P) is important for turfgrass because it helps regulate the plant’s water balance, improves stress tolerance, and strengthens its cell walls. Potassium is also essential for photosynthesis and the production of carbohydrates, which provide energy for the plant.

Phosphorus (K) is necessary for developing strong roots and producing flowers and seeds. It is also important for energy transfer within the plant, as it is a component of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the molecule that provides energy for cellular processes.

Iron (Fe) is an important micronutrient for turfgrass growth and health. Although it is required in very small amounts, it is still critical for proper turfgrass development. Iron is necessary to produce chlorophyll, the green pigment in plant leaves responsible for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is essential for turfgrass growth and development because it allows the plant to convert sunlight into energy. Iron can improve the colour and appearance of turfgrass. When turfgrass is deficient in iron, it can become chlorotic, so the leaves turn yellow or pale green. This can negatively impact the plant’s ability to photosynthesise and grow properly.

Turf Gold Fertiliser provides an effective ratio of nitrogen, phosphate, potash, sulphur, and more iron for deep green colour. Nitrogen (N), Potassium (P), and Phosphorus (K) are all important for turfgrass growth and health because they play essential roles in photosynthesis, protein and carbohydrate production, water regulation, stress tolerance, and root development. Iron (Fe) is important because it is necessary for producing chlorophyll, forming enzymes, and the plant’s response to stress. Iron deficiency can lead to chlorosis and reduced plant growth and vitality.

Tips For Use

Application Tips:

  1. Know your soil: Before applying any fertiliser, it’s important to know your soil’s pH level and nutrient content. You can test your soil with a soil test kit or send a sample to a soil testing lab. The test results will help you determine how much fertiliser your lawn needs.
  2. Read the label: Always read the label on the fertiliser package to ensure that you use the right fertiliser for your grass and soil. Also, follow the application rate instructions provided on the label.
  3. Apply fertiliser evenly: Apply fertiliser evenly to avoid burning the grass. Use a broadcast or handheld spreader to apply the granular fertiliser evenly across the lawn. Start by applying the fertiliser along the perimeter of the lawn and then work your way towards the centre, overlapping each pass slightly.
  4. Water the lawn: After applying the fertiliser, water/Irrigate the turf within 24 hours to avoid the danger of leaf burn. Watering the lawn helps the granules dissolve and release nutrients into the soil. Watering also helps prevent fertiliser from getting blown away by the wind.
  5. Time your applications: Fertilise your lawn during the growing season when the grass is actively growing. Avoid fertilising during the hot summer months or during periods of drought when the grass is dormant.
  6. Avoid over-fertilising: Applying too much fertiliser can lead to grass burning and environmental pollution. Follow the recommended application rates and always err on the side of caution.
  7. Reapply Poly Supreme Fertiliser to turf every 10-12 weeks.

Application Precautions:

  • Iron and other plant nutrients can cause staining of sidewalks.
  • Sweep walkways before irrigation.
  • Walkways should be dry at the time of application.
  • Keep away from pools, ponds, etc.
  • Do not contaminate potable water.
  • Do not apply with a drop-type spreader.
  • The grinding action of drop-type spreaders can damage the coating of the polymer-coated sulphur-coated urea and will increase the turf burn potential.

Storage and Disposal:

  • Store in a well-ventilated place.
  • Keep the container tightly closed.
  • Store locked up.
  • Dispose of contents/containers in accordance with local, regional & national regulations.

Precautionary Statements:

  • Avoid breathing dust.
  • Wash thoroughly after handling.
  • Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
  • Call a poison centre/doctor if you feel unwell.
  • For specific treatment, see the First Aid section on this label.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Wear protective gloves & clothing, eye protection & face protection.
  • Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.

First Aid:

  • If on the skin – Wash with plenty of water. If skin irritation occurs, get medical advice/attention.
  • If inhaled – Remove the person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing.
  • If in the eyes – Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists, get medical advice/attention.
