Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep (Moxidectin, Levamisole & Albendazole) TRIDECTIN Virbac

Description

Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep

Active Ingredients: Levamisole @ 40g/L, Moxidectin @ 1g/L & Albendazole @ 25g/L

Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep is a combination drench for sheep including three powerful broad-spectrum actives: Moxidectin, Albendazole and Levamisole. It is the only combination sheep drench in Australia to include moxidectin, the most potent mectin.

To incorporate moxidectin in the drench, Tridectin utilises a patented micellar technology to improve stability and absorption. Meaning moxidectin stays stable for longer and is more efficacious than an on-farm mix of the same actives.

Tridectin is the only broad-spectrum combination drench in the world to incorporate the following claims:

  • Kills triple resistant worms
  • Kills monepantel resistant worms
  • Kills moxidectin sensitive strains of barber’s pole worm and small brown stomach worm for 14 days.
  • With a wide safety profile, very low meat WHP (7 days) and ESI (17 days); Tridectin is fit for use on any enterprise to help sheep producers kill more worms, keep pastures cleaner for longer; and ultimately improve livestock productivity.

Indications:

Tridectin provides treatment and control of sensitive and single, dual or triple resistant strains of the following gastrointestinal parasites of sheep;

  • Barber’s Pole Worm (Haemonchus contortus*)
  • Stomach Hair Worm (Trichostrongylus axei*)
  • Black Scour Worm (Trichostrongylus colubriformis*, Trichostrongylus rugatus, Trichostrongylus vitrinus)
  • Small Brown Stomach Worm (Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) circumcincta*, Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) trifurcata, Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) davtiani)
  • Small Intestinal Worm (Cooperia punctata*, Cooperia spp.
  • Thin Necked Intestinal Worm (Nematodirus spathiger, Nematodirus spp)
  • Nodule Worm (Oesophagostomum columbianum, Oesophagostomum spp)
  • Whipworm (Trichuris ovis)

* including immature fourth stage (L4) larvae

Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep when used as recommended prevents reinfestation with ML-sensitive strains of Barber’s Pole Worm (Haemonchus contortus) for 14 days and Small Brown Stomach Worm (Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) circumcincta) for 14 days.

What Is Tridectin?

  • Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep is a new class of broad-spectrum combination sheep drench.
  • Tridectin represents a significant step-change in the technology available for sheep producers to control gastrointestinal worms on their property.
  • Tridectin includes three broad-spectrum actives Moxidectin,  Albendazole & Levamisole
  • Each of these actives works differently against the gastrointestinal worms of sheep. Combining actives with different modes of action is an important requirement to ensure that your worm control program remains viable.

Tridectin Kills Triple Resistant Worms.

  • Tridectin is one of very few combination oral drenches that can kill triple resistant worms.
  • To keep winning the fight against resistance it is important that a worm control program limits the proportion of triple resistant worms on your property.
  • When you use a drench that does not kill triple resistant worms, you are increasing the proportion of these resistant worms on your property.

Tridectin Kills Worms Other Drenches Can’t.

  • Tridectin is the only drench with a registered claim to kill worms resistant to monepantel.
  • Monepantel is the newest class of broad-spectrum active released in Australia for the control of gastrointestinal parasites. By using Tridectin you are also helping protect the status of all actives that still work on your property.

Tridectin Kills for Longer than Any Other Oral Combination Drench.

  • Tridectin keeps working after your sheep have left the yards and returned to a paddock. This is particularly important during high worm burden seasons or where a low-risk paddock cannot be found for the livestock.
  • Persistent activity reduces the need for additional drenching. In turn, this will help limit the development of resistance because frequent drenching is a known mechanism for resistance selection.

Why Tridectin Is Different.

  • Tridectin is the only combination drench to include moxidectin.

Why Is that Important?

  • Moxidectin is strongly lipophilic: this means it attaches to the fat and is gradually released, thereby delivering a sustained action.
  • Moxidectin is a very small molecule: the small size of the molecule means that it can rapidly pass through membranes and into the parasite reaching high concentrations much faster.
  • Moxidectin has less affinity for ABC transporters: Parasite cells have transporters that remove foreign materials and waste products from them. Compared to other mectins, moxidectin is less attracted to these transporters. This means that moxidectin stays in the cell for longer at a higher concentration.
  • A lack of affinity for ABC transporters is also a reason why moxidectin is slower to develop resistance compared to the avermectins.

  • Tridectin is suitable to use as a drench in the following circumstances:
    • Pre-lambing treatment where sustained activity beyond 14 days is not required;

    • Prime lamb drench – 17 days is the best ESI of any comparable product; and
    • Summer drench – ideally to be used as a first Summer drench where there is likely to be a mixture of worm species present.
  • Tridectin is suitable for all classes of stock over 12kg weight but it is important to exercise care in handling:
  • Weak, pregnant and young animals to avoid unnecessary stress.
  • Avoid yarding animals off feed overnight, and ensure animals have access to water when yarded prior to drenching.

Can I use Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep past its expiry date if stored properly?

  1. Q Can I use Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep past its expiry date if stored properly?
Asked by Wayne Philips on August 16, 2023 12:19 pm

A sheep anthelmintic drench such as Tridectin 3-Way Oral Drench for Sheep should not be used after its use-by date. The use-by date is when the manufacturer guarantees the product's effectiveness. After the use-by date, the product may not be as effective at killing parasites, and it could even be harmful to your sheep. The active ingredients in the drench may degrade over time, making them less effective at killing parasites.

Working out when to drench your sheep should be done according to a drench plan & results from worm testing.  Testing worm egg counts is also recommended before drenching.

To work out the best drench plan for your area I would suggest going to http://www.wormboss.com.au/sheep-goats/.  There are simple guides you can work through that take into account the rainfall in your area, amount and type of feed, time of year, lambs on ewes etc to best guide you when to drench your sheep and how to set up your drench plan.

If you have already drenched your sheep with Tridectin Oral Drench and are looking to re-drench, the re-treatment interval is 17 days after the last treatment
