Nilzan LV Oral Drench contains Oxyclozanide;

Oxyclozanide is an anthelmintic drug commonly used in veterinary medicine to control internal parasites in livestock. It is known for its effectiveness against various parasites, including liver flukes and gastrointestinal roundworms. Oxyclozanide is considered a very good active ingredient for parasite control:

  1. Broad-spectrum activity: Oxyclozanide has a broad-spectrum activity, which means it can target and control various types of parasites. It is particularly effective against liver fluke, which are responsible for causing significant economic losses in livestock.
  2. High efficacy: Oxyclozanide has been proven to be highly effective against both mature and immature stages of parasites. It acts by interfering with the energy metabolism of parasites, resulting in their death or expulsion from the host’s body.
  3. Limited resistance: Resistance development is a concern when using anthelmintic drugs. However, compared to some other anthelmintics, the development of resistance to Oxyclozanide has been reported to be relatively low. This is important for sustainable parasite control as it helps to preserve the effectiveness of the drug over time.
  4. Safety profile: Oxyclozanide is generally well-tolerated by animals when used according to the recommended dosage. It has a low toxicity level, and few reported side effects. However, it is always important to follow proper dosing instructions and consult a veterinarian before administering any medication.

Veterinarians may only prescribe the use of Nilzan LV Oral Drench for the control of stomach fluke, as it is 'off label'. To the best of our knowledge, no persistent activity data on stomach fluke control is available.  For further clarification, we recommend either speaking to your veterinarian or contacting the manufacturer, Intervet Australia Pty Limited, at 1800 226 511 ([email protected])

Nilzan LV Oral Drench is not registered or recommended for use for goats. Specialist Sales has a range of goat products in Shop Our Range, Animal Health, sub-category Goat Products. You can also contact your local veterinarian, who can provide you with an off-label recommendation.

    Answered by the admin

Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench is currently the only broad-spectrum drench to control susceptible liver fluke, roundworms, including lungworms in sheep and cattle, that includes the active ingredients Levamisole & Oxyclozanide. Levamisole drenches have been available for many years. However, Nilzan LV is a unique combination that combines Levamisole & Oxyclozanide. Oxyclozanide is not available as a single active drench. The straight Levamisole drenches do not offer any control for Liver Fluke. Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench is popular amongst veterinarians who often recommend its use 'off-label' to treat stomach flukes. Please note that veterinarians can only recommend this use. There is currently one other generic equivalent registered that is similar or equivalent to Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench, but it is not commercially available.

  6. Which applicator gun do you use for Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench 2.5L?

  7. Q Which applicator gun do you use for Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench 2.5L?
Asked by Seona Johnston on July 28, 2022 11:40 am
    Answered by the admin

The applicator used to administer Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench needs to be an oral applicator, and the size will depend on whether you are drenching sheep or cattle.  For Sheep, the range will vary from 1.5mL-8mL, so that an 8ml Plastic Oral Low Volume Drench Applicator would be recommended.  For Cattle, the range will vary from 10mL to 75mL or more, so a 60mL Plastic Oral Drench Applicator or smaller would be recommended.

  8. Does Nilzan LV Oral Drench control immature roundworms and eggs?

  9. Q Does Nilzan LV Oral Drench control immature roundworms and eggs?
Asked by JEANNE POIRIER on June 14, 2022 10:25 am
    Answered by the admin

Coopers Nilzan LV Oral Drench is a very good broad-spectrum drench, especially if lungworm and liver fluke are present, but is not considered the first choice for treating inhibited worms such as Ostertagia spp. A mectin drench would be the preferred first option, followed by a BZ and a drench containing Levamisole such as Nilzan or Nilverm.  Nilazan does not claim ovicidal egg control.

Tips For Use

Restraints:

  • Do not administer Nilzan LV to dogs or horses.
  • Do not use in ewes that are producing or may in the future produce milk that may be used or processed for human consumption.

Precautions:

  1. Some scouring and slight loss of appetite may be seen in some animals for 1-2 days after treatment.
  2. In milking herds, a reduction in milk yield is to be expected for 2 days following handling for dosing.
  3. Mustering and dosing of stock within 1 month of parturition (calving or lambing) is not recommended unless drenching is essential. Treatment at this time could result in stress-related adverse reactions.
  4. Severely stressed stock, or stock in ill health, are less tolerant of handling and dosing. Such procedures could result in stress-related diseases (e.g. pregnancy toxaemia, grass tetany, milk fever). If treatment is essential, drench with minimum disturbance and ensure adequate feed is available before and after treatment.
  5. Exercise care in handling weak, pregnant and young animals to avoid unnecessary stress. Avoid yarding animals off-feed overnight, and ensure animals have access to water when yarded prior to drenching. Recommended doses should not be exceeded except under veterinary supervision.
  • Nilzan LV is fully effective at these doses.
  • Nilzan LV has a temporary stimulating effect on some cattle for a short period after treatment, often accompanied by “friskiness”.

Safety Directions:

  • Poisonous if swallowed.
  • It may irritate the eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Wear rubber gloves.

Storage:

  • Store below 30oC (Room Temperature) in the closed, original container in a well-ventilated area.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre Phone 131126.
  • Additional information is listed in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
