  3. Q Is it safe to use Insectigone Insecticide around pets, mainly dogs?
Asked by Karen on May 6, 2023 4:17 pm
    Answered by the admin

Insecticides made from Deltamethrin (including Insectigone Insecticide) can be considered safe for pets such as dogs when used correctly and according to the instructions. However, taking precautions to minimise their exposure and ensure their safety is essential. Here are some guidelines to follow. (1) Read and carefully follow the product label instructions. The label will provide specific information on safely using the product around pets. (2) Keep pets away from the treated area during and immediately after application. Follow the recommended re-entry period stated on the product label, which typically indicates the amount of time needed before it is safe for pets to re-enter the treated area. (3) Store the insecticide securely in a location inaccessible to pets to prevent accidental ingestion or exposure. (4) If accidental exposure or ingestion occurs, contact a veterinarian immediately for guidance. Remember, even though a product may be considered safe when used as directed, every pet can have unique sensitivities or reactions.

Insectigone Insecticide does not claim any control over millipedes.  We do sell products that are registered for millipede control.  These include Ficam W Insecticide, Temprid 75 Residual Insecticide, Solfac Duo Residual Insecticide & Termidor Residual Termiticide and Insecticide.

    Answered by the admin

The residual activity of Insectigone Insecticide will be affected by many factors such as the surface being applied to (porous or non-porous), exposure to weather, cleaning of surfaces etc.  The active ingredient, Deltamethrin, is not likely to evaporate into the air or dissolve easily into water and can have a half-life in soil up to 7 months.  If the conditions are favourable, we would estimate Insectigone Insecticide to last on average for three months before reapplication is required.

  11. Q Can I use Insectigone Insecticide on poultry and in the sheds for stick fast fleas?

    Answered by the admin

Insectigone Insecticide is not registered for use on any animals, including poultry or in Poultry sheds. We would suggest looking at Maldison 50 Insecticide.

    Previous vet advice regarding stick-fast fleas on poultry was;

    • Thoroughly spray the shed and runs with 3% Maldison solution.
    • Spray all equipment and ensure that cracks, crevices and corners of sheds are thoroughly wetted.
    • Repeat spray after 12 days, to kill emerging adults.
    • Birds can be treated with a 0.5% solution of Maldison. Use a pump spray bottle to administer the solution or the birds can be fully immersed in a bucket of solution

The mixing rate for Insectigone Insecticide depends on the spray being done and the insect you are targeting.  As an initial treatment for pests such as Cockroaches, Flies, Spiders, Fleas, Silverfish, Bed Bugs, Mites, Carpet Beetles & Clothes Moths mix at 30mL/1L Water.  For follow up treatments, mix at 15mL per 1L Water.  Different types of surfaces also require different rates.  The complete directions for use for Insectigone are available via the Specialist Sales website in the 'technical & SDS' tab on the Insectigone product page.

Surefire Insectigone is not registered for use on living plants or to be effective on Psyllids.  Being a water-based SC formulation, Insectigone should be safe to use on plants. However, as this use is 'off-label', we would recommend a test be done in an inconspicuous area to be sure.

  17. Q Hi - can this be sprayed onto carpet without damaging/discolouring it?
Asked by Finn on October 25, 2021 8:36 pm
    Answered by the admin

Surefire Insectigone Insecticide is registered for application to carpets, however, there are notes associated with this listed on the product's directions for use.  "Whilst carpets are regarded as porous surfaces, an excessive liquid application may produce water stains and therefore the non-porous surface rate should be adopted if possible.  Short pile carpet: Dilute recommended amount of lnsectigone in 5 L water and apply 5 L per 100 m2 of carpet.  Long or shag pile carpet: Dilute recommended amount of lnsectigone in 10 L water and apply 10 L per 100 m2 to ensure effective penetration of carpet pile. Since carpets vary in thickness, colour and fibre type, it is recommended that a small, inconspicuous area of carpet be treated  and allowed to dry to test for colourfastness."
