Surefire Fivestar Insecticide FIVESTAR PCT

Description

Surefire Fivestar Bifenthrin Insecticide: Broad-Spectrum Control Across Five Use Areas

Surefire Fivestar Insecticide contains 80 g/L bifenthrin as a water-based suspension concentrate from PCT International Pty Ltd. Because bifenthrin belongs to Group 3A, it acts on insect nerve channels to deliver fast knockdown and long residual activity. The product covers five registered use areas: general domestic pests, public health insects, termites, turf, and ornamentals.

For general domestic and public health use, Fivestar controls a broad range of insects and arachnids. These include ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, biting midges, papernest wasps, spiders, and ticks. Apply it as a surface or barrier spray to harbourage points and pest travel routes. The formulation is rainfast and UV-stable, so treated surfaces stay active between applications. As a result, a single barrier treatment of shaded areas and vegetation can reduce mosquito and biting midge populations. This reduction typically lasts approximately six weeks.

Termite Barrier Protection with Surefire Fivestar Bifenthrin Insecticide

PCT International has also registered Fivestar for post-construction subterranean termite control. Applied by soil injection into pre-drilled holes, it forms a continuous chemical barrier around and beneath structures. The water-based SC formulation is odourless and non-allergenic, making it practical for both interior and exterior barrier work.

Turf and Ornamental Pest Control

In turf, Fivestar targets African Black Beetle, Billbug, Argentine Stem Weevil, and Lepidoptera larvae. It also controls several ant species. The water-based formulation supports uniform distribution across the turf surface, which improves insect contact and control. Apply at a minimum spray volume of 200 L/ha using calibrated ground application equipment.

In ornamentals, Fivestar applies safely to plant foliage with minimal phytotoxicity risk. Fortnightly applications during peak insect activity protect against more than ten target pests. These include Two Spotted Mite, Aphids, Spiralling Whitefly, Caterpillars, Loopers, Light Brown Apple Moth, Mealy Bugs, Plague Thrips, and Cutworms. Additionally, Fivestar is compatible with Dithane M45, Antracol, Bravo 500, and Kocide for tank mixing programmes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What pests does Surefire Fivestar control?

A: Fivestar controls pests across five use areas. For domestic and public health use, it targets a range of common insects. These include ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, biting midges, papernest wasps, spiders, and ticks. In turf, it controls African Black Beetle, Billbug, Argentine Stem Weevil, and Lepidoptera larvae.

Q: Is Surefire Fivestar registered for subterranean termite control?

A: Yes, PCT International has registered it for post-construction subterranean termite protection. It creates a continuous soil barrier around structures by injection into pre-drilled holes. Rates vary by soil type. Sandy soils require 2 litres per hole, while heavy clay soils require 5 litres per hole.

Q: How long does residual activity last after application?

A: For mosquito and biting midge control, a single barrier treatment provides approximately six weeks of population reduction. For general pest control, the formulation remains active on treated surfaces after rain. Termite barrier longevity depends on soil conditions, termite pressure, and local climate.

Q: Can Fivestar be applied directly to ornamental plant foliage?

A: Yes, it is safe to apply directly to ornamental foliage with minimal phytotoxicity risk. The SC formulation is water-based and contains no solvents that can burn foliage. PCT International recommends fortnightly applications during peak insect activity.

Q: Is Fivestar compatible with fungicides for tank mixing?

A: Yes, Fivestar is compatible with Dithane M45, Antracol, Bravo 500, and Kocide. Always conduct a jar compatibility test before mixing with any product not listed on the label. Maintain agitation throughout mixing and application.

    AFRICAN BLACK BEETLE

    Works for me.
Easy to apply with a handheld 8 litre pressure sprayer and then water in.
Black Beetle control is difficult at the best of times requiring 2 applications/year (1st OCT/1st DEC in South Australia) due to their life cycle to attain any degree of success in knocking them out.
Absolutely sick of paying $35 x 2 each year for 5kg of Lawn Grub Killa at 2g/kg of BIFENTHRIN to cover 2 properties.
Purchasing this 5 litre product @ $195 with 80g/litre BIFENTHRIN (total 400g and equivalent to 40x the previous 5kg Lawn Grub Killer bags) is a ‘no brainer’ and at the recommended spread rate gives me 15 years supply at 1.5x the previous concentration.
Just check your ‘walking pace’, but for my spray bottle, the spread rate I was after was 20ml/6litres of water…..obviously and as always, agitate well at ALL stages before applying.
I applied this in the first week of October and at the first sign of grub activity (yellowing off in ‘circles’) along with some fertiliser and watered both in.
It’s now the beginning of November, and all lawns are thriving with no sign of the decimation that I normally get if I neglect to apply any pesticide.
    This stuff is good 👍🏻

    excellent control

    chris1146

Originally purchased it for mud wasps, which it controls well at the higher dose, but it also stops spiders and other insects. I use it inside at the lower dose and generally spray inside and outside twice to three times per year. My pest controller told me that the only way to stop the mud wasps was to get him in every three months and even that wasn’t guaranteed, obviously he hadn’t heard of this product. point to note, its not selective.

To the best of our knowledge, there are no insecticides registered in Australia that claim control of Chilli Thrip.  We have various insecticides such as Preserve 120 InsecticideSuccess Ultra Insect ControlVista 200SC, Stealth Miticide & Venom Professional Insecticide registered to control certain thrip species but not Chilli Thrip.  The only way to know if these insecticides are effective will be to conduct an 'off-label' trial.

Surefire Fivestar Insecticide is very effective at controlling Lawn Armyworm, African Blackbettles and other pests in turf such as Sir Walter Buffalo. The mixing rate of Surefire Fivestar Insecticide to treat Lawn Armyworm (Spodoptera Maurita) is 1.5-Litres per 10,000m2 (300-mL per 2000m2). Mix the Surefire Fivestar in water and apply evenly over the area to be treated using suitable spray application equipment for even coverage. A minimum total spray volume of 2-Litres per 100m2 (400L per 2000m2) should be applied, and to ensure optimal control, irrigate the treated areas with up to 4mm of water soon after application. Inspect the treated areas for continuing activity and reapply as required. Apply after mowing to minimise the loss of the insecticide in the clippings.

Due to the requirement of even application of the chemical over the area, a boom spray is recommended. Hand spraying or using a watering can is also an option but will require much more work and is less accurate. Access to irrigation after spraying will also be necessary to get the chemical into the turf's root zone. Alternatively, applying before rainfall is acceptable.

Another popular option is a granular application of Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide. This product has the added benefit of residual control up to 6 months after application.

The active ingredient in Surefire Fivestar Insecticide, Bifenthrin, has high persistence in soil (half-life from 7 days to 8 months) and consequently has a long residual insecticidal action.  We would not recommend spraying this insecticide onto soil that you plan on growing vegetables for consumption in the near future.  A safer option would be to use a cockroach bait such as Surefire Pro Cockroach Gel Bait in weatherproof traps around the infested area.

The application rate of Surefire Fivestar Insecticide in turf to control Lawn Armyworm is to apply evenly 1.5L/10,000m2 or 15mL/100m2.  The minimum amount of water applied evenly is 200L per 10,000m2 or 2L per 100m2.  The amount of water you mix the Fivestar in is up to you, provided you apply the minimum amount over the area you are treating.  For example, you can mix 15mL per 10L water and spread evenly over 100m2.

Tips For Use

Mixing Instructions

  • Add the required quantity of Fivestar to water in the spray tank and mix thoroughly before use.
  • Maintain agitation during both mixing and application to keep the suspension uniform.
  • For termite barrier treatment, the addition of a marker dye (at label rates) assists in even application over the treatment area.
  • On hard-to-wet soils, adding a soil surfactant (at label rates) improves penetration of the termiticide emulsion.

Application Tips

  • For mosquito and biting midge control, apply to both sides of leaf surfaces on shade trees, flower beds, shrubs, tall grass, and shaded areas where these insects congregate.
  • For turf applications, apply with calibrated ground equipment. Aim for a minimum spray volume of 200 L/ha to ensure the insecticide reaches the thatch and upper soil.
  • For ornamentals, apply at fortnightly intervals during periods of higher insect activity to maintain full pest protection.
  • Fivestar can be applied using a hand or power sprayer, according to the label.

Resistance Management

  • Surefire Fivestar Insecticide is a Group 3A insecticide. Some naturally occurring resistant individuals may exist in any pest population.
  • Repeated use of Group 3A products can allow resistant individuals to dominate. To reduce this risk, rotate with insecticides from a different mode-of-action group where resistance management programmes apply.
  • Contact your PCT International representative or local agricultural agronomist for resistance management advice.

Compatibility

  • Fivestar is compatible with Dithane M45, Antracol, Bravo 500, and Kocide.
  • Always conduct a jar compatibility test before mixing with any product not listed on the label.

Protection of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans and the Environment

  • Dangerous to fish and aquatic organisms. DO NOT contaminate dams, rivers, streams, waterways, or drains with product or used containers.
  • Do not allow a product or a used container to enter any waterway.

Storage and Disposal

  • Store in the closed original container in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from children, animals, food, and feedstuffs.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
  • Triple or preferably pressure-rinse containers before disposal. Add rinsings to the spray tank.
  • If recycling, replace the cap and return clean containers to the recycler or a designated collection point.
  • If not recycling, break, crush, or puncture and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill.
  • Do not burn empty containers or surplus product.
