Surefire Fivestar Insecticide controls a wide range of indoor/outdoor pests including spiders, ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, paper nest wasps & ticks.  It has a fast knockdown with a long residual and is rainfast & stable in sunlight.

Where can Surefire Fivestar Insecticide be used;

  • Turf.
  • Ornamentals.
  • Public Health.
  • Termites.
  • General Domestic Pests.

Turf: Fivestar has a unique ability to control adult Scarab beetles and Weevil pests of sports turf, including African Black Beetle (Heteronychus arator), Billbug (Sphenophorus brunneipennis) and Argentine Stem Weevil (Listronotus bonariensis), as well as exhibiting outstanding efficacy against the larvae of Lepidoptera. Fivestar’s water-based formulation is specially designed to assist turf managers to achieve uniform insecticide distribution across the turf surface, enhancing the degree of insect control. Fivestar also controls a range of ant species. Fivestar, when incorporated with PCT’s Surefire Spectrum Insecticide (Imidacloprid), will control all stages of an insect’s life cycle. An insecticide application combining these two products will control the current population & the residual nature of these products will prevent further insect infestations.

  • Lawn armyworm (Spodoptera maurita)
  • Sold webworm (Herpetogramma licarsisalis)
  • Argentine stem weevil adults (Listronotus bonariensis)
  • African black beetle (Heteronychus arator)

Public Health: Surefire Fivestar Insecticide is a highly effective management tool for significantly reducing populations of biting midges and mosquitoes infesting domestic and public facilities. A single barrier treatment should provide a sustained reduction in both mosquitoes & biting midge numbers over approximately a six week period. This can be achieved by applying it to any surface area, including limbs & both sides of leaf surfaces of shade trees, flower beds, shrubs, tall grass, & shaded areas, such as around & under buildings where mosquitoes & biting midges congregate. Fivestar can be applied by either a hand or power sprayer, according to the label.

    excellent control

Originally purchased it for mud wasps, which it controls well at the higher dose, but it also stops spiders and other insects. I use it inside at the lower dose and generally spray inside and outside twice to three times per year. My pest controller told me that the only way to stop the mud wasps was to get him in every three months and even that wasn’t guaranteed, obviously he hadn’t heard of this product. point to note, its not selective.

To the best of our knowledge, there are no insecticides registered in Australia that claim control of Chilli Thrip.  We have various insecticides such as Preserve 120 InsecticideSuccess Ultra Insect ControlVista 200SC, Stealth Miticide & Venom Professional Insecticide registered to control certain thrip species but not Chilli Thrip.  The only way to know if these insecticides are effective will be to conduct an 'off-label' trial.

Surefire Fivestar Insecticide is very effective at controlling Lawn Armyworm, African Blackbettles and other pests in turf such as Sir Walter Buffalo. The mixing rate of Surefire Fivestar Insecticide to treat Lawn Armyworm (Spodoptera Maurita) is 1.5-Litres per 10,000m2 (300-mL per 2000m2). Mix the Surefire Fivestar in water and apply evenly over the area to be treated using suitable spray application equipment for even coverage. A minimum total spray volume of 2-Litres per 100m2 (400L per 2000m2) should be applied, and to ensure optimal control, irrigate the treated areas with up to 4mm of water soon after application. Inspect the treated areas for continuing activity and reapply as required. Apply after mowing to minimise the loss of the insecticide in the clippings.

Due to the requirement of even application of the chemical over the area, a boom spray is recommended. Hand spraying or using a watering can is also an option but will require much more work and is less accurate. Access to irrigation after spraying will also be necessary to get the chemical into the turf's root zone. Alternatively, applying before rainfall is acceptable.

Another popular option is a granular application of Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide. This product has the added benefit of residual control up to 6 months after application.

The active ingredient in Surefire Fivestar Insecticide, Bifenthrin, has high persistence in soil (half-life from 7 days to 8 months) and consequently has a long residual insecticidal action.  We would not recommend spraying this insecticide onto soil that you plan on growing vegetables for consumption in the near future.  A safer option would be to use a cockroach bait such as Surefire Pro Cockroach Gel Bait in weatherproof traps around the infested area.

The application rate of Surefire Fivestar Insecticide in turf to control Lawn Armyworm is to apply evenly 1.5L/10,000m2 or 15mL/100m2.  The minimum amount of water applied evenly is 200L per 10,000m2 or 2L per 100m2.  The amount of water you mix the Fivestar in is up to you, provided you apply the minimum amount over the area you are treating.  For example, you can mix 15mL per 10L water and spread evenly over 100m2.

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • General Pest Control – Fivestar is a powerful knockdown and residual pesticide. Ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, spiders, ticks and wasps are controlled by direct contact with spray and also by residual action as they come into contact with treated surfaces.
  • Termites – Fivestar will help prevent and control subterranean termite infestation in and around buildings and structures when used in accordance with the Australian standard AS3660 series, Termite Management.  A dilute termiticidal emulsion must be adequately dispersed into the soil to establish a barrier between the building and subterranean termites in the soil. The purpose of a termite barrier is to prevent concealed termite entry into the building. The biology and behaviour of the termite species involved, should be considered by the pest control operator in determining which control measures are most appropriate to control and prevent termite infestation
  • Crops, Ornamentals, Turf – This product can be used as a protective treatment when applied at regular intervals or as a knockdown treatment to control existing pests. Best results are obtained when the product is applied before his populations buildl to add damaging levels.

Application – Turf, Ornamentals & Crops:

  • Fivestar is a suspension concentrate requiring dilution with water prior to use. Applications should be made with ground application equipment calibrated to deliver a fine spray in a suitable volume to ensure thorough coverage. Use suitable application equipment and preferably cone nozzle combinations to deliver appropriate spray volume and droplet size of 150 – 200 microns. Do not apply as a fog or Mist.

Mixing:

  • Add  required quantity of Fivestar to water in the spray tank and mix thoroughly. Maintain agitation during both mixing and application.
  • For Termites – to facilitate even application of the Termiticide emulsion over the area to be treated, the addition of a marke dye at label rates is recommended. On hard wet soil, the penetration of the termiticide emulsion may be improved by the addition of a soil surfactant at label rates.
  • Turf – to aid in even coverage a minimum spray volume of 200L per hectare is recommended. High volumes can be used as in all cases the insecticide needs to be incorporatedinto the turf thatch and other soil.

Surfactants:

  • Fivestar contains a surfactant. Additional surfactant may only be necessary on hard to wet plants and in high-volume situations.

Restraints:

  • Do not use this product at less than indicated label rates.
  • Do not apply to soils if excessively wet or immediately after heavy rain to avoid run off of the chemical.
  • Do not use in cavity walls (except via certified cavity infill reticulation systems or direct treatment of nest)

Clothing must be laundered after each day’s use.
  • Crops, Ornamentals, Turf – The operator should wear suitable protective clothing (ie water proof boots, overalls and gloves) when walking on or handling newly sprayed turf before the spray deposits have dried or been watered-in or before re-entering treated crops.

Protection of Pets and Livestock:

  • Before spraying, remove animals and pets from the areas to be treated.
