Description
Green Couch (Bermudagrass) Seed (agriCOTE Enhanced)
Green Couch (Bermudagrass) is a warm-season perennial grass that is well adapted to tropical and subtropical climates.
Green Couch has a fine to medium texture with a leaf structure approximately 1.5mm wide and 20-160mm long. It has a dense growth habit, which tends to become a finer texture as the density increases. Below the surface, the root system assists in stabilising the soil but will also invade adjacent areas if not controlled.
Green Couch has a fine blade with a rich, bright to dark green colour.
Green Couch is a vigorous grass that propagates from both stolon’s (above the ground) and rhizomes (below the ground).
Where is Green Couch (Bermudagrass) suitable to be used;
- Residential Lawns
- Tees
- Fairways.
- Sporting Grounds.
- Airports.
- Commercial Landscapes.
- Amenity Areas
- Parklands
- Roadsides
Why Choose Green Couch (Bermudagrass);
- Low amounts of thatch.
- Good herbicide resistance.
- High drought tolerance.
- Suitable for high-traffic areas.
- Aggressive growth habit, allowing for quick self-repair.
Green Couch does best in full sun situations, and performance in shaded areas is average. A shade tolerance of just 10 per cent, compared to Zoysia at 40 per cent and Buffalo at 70 per cent, means a backyard that is closed in or has a lot of tree life will have Couch underperforming.
Green couch has very high drought tolerance. GreenCouch will look far healthier if watered regularly. However, it will survive long, dry spells if required.
Green Couch is a physically tough grass, able to withstand high amounts of traffic with ease – perfect for backyards that are child or pet riddled. Its dense coverage and ability to quickly repair itself means that any damage is soon fixed.
Green Couch requires an extended period of 18 – 25oC+ to germinate successfully. Once established, it will withstand cold conditions; however, in predominantly cool climates (i.e. Tasmania) germination can be challenging.
Green Couch performs best in soils with moderate acidity (pH 5.8-7.0), but tolerates more alkaline conditions.
Green Couch (Bermudagrass) has runners that spread both above ground (stolon’s) and below ground (rhizomes). This makes the grass great at ‘self-repairing’, and any bare patches that you may have from your initial sowing of seed will, more often than not, be quickly filled in without any need for a second sow.
Green Couch becomes dormant in winter and may discolour, particularly in sub-tropical climates. A Couch surface can be oversown with a Perennial Ryegrass to improve winter performance. This also works to protect the Couch from heavy traffic during dormancy.
