Baycox Coccidiocide for Piglets and Cattle BAYCOX-PIGLETS-CATTLE Elanco

Description

Baycox Coccidiocide for Piglets and Cattle delivers a single-dose coccidiosis treatment for piglets and cattle. This oral suspension contains 50 g/L toltrazuril as the active constituent. Toltrazuril attacks all intracellular stages of the coccidial parasite. As a result, one oral dose controls the infection in young stock.

Elanco Australasia Pty Ltd produces Baycox for two situations. In piglets, it controls coccidiosis caused by Isospora suis. In cattle up to 9 months of age, it controls disease caused by Eimeria bovis or Eimeria zuernii. Coccidiosis causes diarrhoea, dehydration and poor growth in young animals. Therefore, early treatment protects both the individual animal and the wider herd.

Baycox also allows natural immunity to develop after treatment. Because the active clears the parasite without blocking immunity, treated stock still build lifelong protection. This makes Baycox a practical choice for producers managing coccidiosis in piglets and calves.

Directions Of Use

Click here for directions for use of Baycox Coccidiocide for Piglets and Cattle.

General Instructions: Shake the container before use. Give the product by mouth. Ensure the applicator delivers a full dose before starting treatment. Set the applicator to deliver a full dose per stroke.

In piglets, obtain a veterinary diagnosis of coccidiosis before treating diarrhoea. Control works best when you give Baycox before intestinal damage and diarrhoea begin. In calves, also confirm the diagnosis first. Early treatment prevents further intestinal damage and limits spread through the herd. On farms with a history of coccidiosis, treat about 1 week before the expected onset of clinical signs. Treatment of newly weaned calves at milk withdrawal controls coccidiosis linked to weaning.

Dose Rate:

Animal Dose Prevention Treatment
Piglets 1 mL Treat at 3 to 6 days old. Treat at the onset of coccidial diarrhoea. Treat all piglets in infected litters, and all infected and at-risk litters in the farrowing house.
Cattle 3 mL per 10 kg bodyweight Where there is a farm history of coccidiosis, treat 1 week before the expected onset of clinical signs. For recently weaned calves, treat at weaning when milk feeding ceases. Treat at the onset of diagnosed clinical signs.

Re-treatment Interval and Restraints:

  • Do not re-treat calves for 75 days after the last treatment.
  • Do not treat piglets later than 8 days of age.

Rates are a general guide only. Before opening, carefully read Baycox Coccidiocide for Piglets and Cattle directions for use, precautionary and protection statements, storage and disposal, safety directions and first aid instructions. The product is designed for the particular purpose indicated on the label. Failure to use the product strictly as directed may be illegal and dangerous, and render the product ineffective.

Although Baycox Coccidiocide is highly effective as a preventative on properties with a known, pre-existing history of coccidiosis, it is a narrow-spectrum treatment specifically designed to destroy the intracellular stages of coccidia parasites (Isospora suis in piglets and Eimeria species in cattle). Diarrhoea in young calves and piglets can be caused by a wide range of distinct alternative pathogens, including bacteria like E. coli or Salmonella, rotaviruses, or basic nutritional scours. Administering a targeted coccidiocide without a veterinary diagnosis when diarrhoea is already present means you risk mistreating an unrelated bacterial or viral disease, which delays correct lifesaving therapies and leads to unnecessary chemical use. Preventative application is intended to be given to at-risk herds approximately one week before an expected outbreak to prevent severe intestinal cell damage before clinical symptoms emerge. You can find complete Host & Pest criteria, age limitations, and exact withholding parameters under the 'SDS & Technical' tab on our live product page. If you have any further questions regarding herd preventative timing or applicator calibration, please reach out to the manufacturer, Elanco, by calling 1800 226 324.

Baycox Coccidiocide For Piglets and Cattle is not recommended or registered for use on poultry. For this purpose, we suggest Baycox Poultry Coccidiocide Solution. The withholding period (WHP) for Baycox Poultry states that for chickens laying eggs, "Do not use it in laying hens. Do not use in replacement pullets within eight weeks of laying onset, where eggs are to be used or processed for human consumption. Eggs laid during the withholding period must not be used or processed for human consumption."
