Oxafert Herbicide and Fertiliser can be used anytime during the year, providing that daytime temperatures are not consistently above 32oC. Depending on the type of weeds being targeted and when they germinate, it can be used as an indication as to when the product needs to be applied before this occurs.

Thank you for this question. Several ideal selective herbicides are registered for post-emergent control of crabgrass in couch. We recommend DSMA Selective Herbicide, Metric Herbicide, Quinstar 200SC Turf Herbicide, or Militate MSMA Herbicide. Always read the 'directions for use' carefully to ensure suitability to your situation.

  4. I want to renovate the lawn with new topsoil and couch seed. Currently, there is a lot of crabgrass and crowsfoot where I’m looking to do this work. If I kill off what is growing there already, lay the new topsoil and seed, would you recommend Oxafert to promote the new couch and keep any of the other unwanted grasses coming back through?

Oxafert Herbicide And Fertiliser advises the restraint 'not apply to newly seeded turf areas'. Your plan to kill the existing weeds before topdressing and reseeding is a good one, and Oxafert, if applied after this, will control freshly germinating weeds. The Oxafert preemergent may also impact seed germination, so avoid applying it to newly seeded turf areas.

The Oxafert Herbicide And Fertiliser product label (in the directions for use) states, "Do not apply on turf containing Dichondra unless some damage is acceptable".

Tips For Use

Application:

  • Apply using a properly calibrated granular applicator which will apply the granules in a uniform pattern.
  • Uniform application is essential for satisfactory weed control.
  • Calibrate the applicator prior to use according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and check the applicator frequently to ensure the equipment is working properly.
  • After application, ensure granules are washed or brushed off the foliage, particularly the foliage of prostrate and dense ground-cover plants.
  • Do not apply the granules when the foliage is wet.

Note for Turf:

  • For a granular spreader that can be calibrated for even output and capable of giving even application, use a double application technique: i.e. half-rate width, to achieve a full rate application.
  • Apply under calm conditions, thereby reducing drift to non-target areas and optimizing particle distribution for good weed control.
  • Ensure the turf area is free of leaves and other debris, mowing if necessary so that the granules reach the soil surface.
  • Delay reseeding of Ryegrass or Bentgrass into treated areas for 4-5 months (Ryegrass 4 months & Bentgrass 5 months).
  • Do not over apply, especially under the branch spread of trees and shrubs.
  • Avoid contact with flowers and shrubs.

Note for Ornamentals:

  • Oxafert Herbicide And Fertiliser has been used on a wide range of ornamental plant species without damage.
  • Some species and varieties are particularly sensitive to chemical products.
  • As this sensitivity could be related to local conditions, it is advisable to treat only a small number of plants first, in order to determine their reaction to the product, before treating the whole crop.

Restraints:

  • Do not mix granules with the soil.
  • Do not apply granules when the turf foliage is wet.
  • Do not use it on putting greens, low cut tees or bowling greens.
  • Do not apply to newly seeded turf areas.
  • Do not apply to soft, annual flowering plants, ferns or bulbs unless they are listed as tolerant species below.
  • Do not use in glasshouses or poorly ventilated polyhouses.

Protection Of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans And Environment

  • Dangerous to Fish.
  • Do not contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with chemical or used containers.
  • Do not apply product if rapid storm run-off from treated areas into water bodies is likely to occur within several days of application.

Storage:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.
  • Do not store with seed, feed, foodstuffs, insecticides, fungicides or other fertilisers.
  • Shake the bag empty into the applicator.

Safety Directions:

  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • Do not inhale the dust.
  • Wash hands after use.

  • If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
