Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle IVOMEC-POUR-ON Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health

Description

Ivomec Ivermectin Pour-On for Cattle is a 5 mg/mL topical endectocide for the treatment and control of ivermectin-sensitive internal and external parasites in cattle and red deer. Applied along the topline at 1 mL per 10 kg of liveweight, it controls gastrointestinal roundworms (including inhibited Ostertagia ostertagi), lungworm (Dictyocaulus viviparus), eyeworm (Thelazia spp.), sucking and biting lice, sarcoptic and chorioptic mange mites, buffalo fly (Haematobia irritans exigua), and cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) in cattle. In addition, the formulation treats gastrointestinal roundworms and lungworms in red deer.

Registered by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Australia Pty. Ltd., Ivomec Pour-On suits beef and dairy operations across Australia. Because it uses a topline pour-on delivery method, injection equipment is not required. The formulation also stays effective if cattle hides are wet or light rainfall follows shortly after treatment. Available in 1 L, 2.5 L, 5 L, and 20 L packs, it suits operations from small properties to large commercial herds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ivomec Ivermectin Pour-On for Cattle

Which parasites does Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle control?

Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle controls ivermectin-sensitive gastrointestinal roundworms (including adult, immature, and inhibited stages), lungworm (Dictyocaulus viviparus), eyeworm (Thelazia spp.), sucking and biting lice, sarcoptic and chorioptic mange mites, buffalo fly (Haematobia irritans exigua), and cattle tick (Boophilus microplus), including strains resistant to organophosphates, synthetic pyrethroids, and amidines.

How do I apply Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle?

Apply Ivomec Pour-On along the topline in a narrow strip from the withers to the tailhead. The dose rate is 1 mL for each 10 kg of liveweight. Weigh cattle using scales or a weighband before treatment and dose the mob based on the heaviest animal in each group. When there is a large variation in bodyweight within a group, draft cattle into two or more lines to avoid overdosing.

What are the withholding periods for Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle?

The meat withholding period for cattle is 42 days. Do not administer to cows within 28 days prior to calving or during lactation when milk or milk products are for human consumption. The Export Slaughter Interval (ESI) is 42 days. For red deer, the withholding period before slaughter is 35 days.

Does Ivomec Pour-On work on resistant cattle tick strains?

Yes. Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle controls Boophilus microplus, including strains resistant to organophosphates, synthetic pyrethroids, and amidines. After treatment, maximum efficacy against ticks is reached within approximately four to five days. Engorged females that drop off shortly after treatment may still lay viable eggs, so factor this into your tick management programme.

How should Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle be stored?

Store Ivomec Pour-On below 30°C and keep the bottle in its carton to protect from light. The formulation may become cloudy if stored below 0°C, but allowing it to return to room temperature restores normal appearance without affecting efficacy. Colour fading on brief light exposure does not indicate loss of potency, but prolonged light exposure over weeks can reduce ivermectin activity.

Questions and answers from customers

Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle go through the cows milk to benefit their calves?

  1. Q Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle go through the cows milk to benefit their calves?
Asked by Tom on August 29, 2024 7:30 pm
    Answered by the admin

Some ivermectin from the Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle may be excreted in the milk, but it's not in sufficient quantities to provide meaningful parasite control for the calves. When feasible, the calves should receive their own backline application of Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle.

  2. Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle have adverse effects on dung beetle populations?

  3. Q Does Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle have adverse effects on dung beetle populations?
Asked by Sherron on March 25, 2024 11:52 am
    Answered by the admin

The Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle label does not advise if the product affects dung beetle and earthworm populations. Studies have shown that Ivermectin, the active ingredient in Ivomec Pour-On For Cattle, can adversely affect dung beetles if it enters their environment through cattle dung.

    A

If after 28 days from the application of Ivomec Pour-On, and before the minimum 42 days for re-application, cattle have a re-infestation of the cattle tick, we recommend a different active should be used. This should be a chemical separate from a 'mectin' pour-on (i.e. a dip, spray or another chemical group like fluazuron). It is essential to have a tick management plan to suit your situation and rotate tick control products to avoid resistance. For further information regarding tick management, please read our blog 'How to effectively treat cattle ticks' on our website  https://specialistsales.com.au/information-advice/treat-cattle-ticks/.
