Startect Oral Drench For Sheep is a short-acting broad-spectrum combination sheep drench that kills the most damaging worms, including those that are resistant to existing drenches.

What Is Startect Broad Spectrum Oral Drench for Sheep?

Startect is an effective short-acting oral sheep drench that manages resistance better to optimise productivity.
The first time a new class of drench has been released in combination to protect itself against resistance from its beginning.
Deliberately and thoughtfully designed combination.
Contains a completely new active, derquantel (10 mg/mL) that has no known resistance. The first active ingredient isfrom the entirely new SI (spiroindole) class with a completely different mode of action. Purposely combined with abamectin (1 mg/mL).
Designed for greater sustainability with each active protecting the other against resistance.
When used routinely Startect also extends the useful life of older more fragile drenches.
Export Slaughter Interval (ESI) of 28 days gives producers trading flexibility and speed to market.

What Worms doest Startect Oral Drench For Sheep control;

Startect treats and controls a broad range of adult and immature worms, including those that have built up resistance to existing drenches: levamisole (LEV), benzimidazoles (BZ), macrocyclic lactones (ML) and closantel (CLOS).

Startect is effective against multi-resistant strains of Haemonchus contortus (LEV, BZ, ML and CLOS), Teladorsagia circumcincta (LEV, BZ and ML) and Trichostrongylus colubriformis (LEV, BZ and ML).

Startect is effective against resistant and susceptible:

Adults & Immature (L4) Stages;

Barber’s pole worm (Haemonchus contortus) Including strains resistant to LEV, BZ, ML and CLOS
Small brown stomach worm (Teladorsagia circumcincta) Including strains resistant to LEV, BZ and ML
Black scour worm (Trichostrongylus spp.) Including strains resistant to LEV, BZ and ML

Animals in excess of 75 kg are to be dosed at 1 mL per 5 kg.
A representative sample of animals should be weighed before treatment.
Dose the mob to the heaviest animal by live weight in each group (ewes, wethers, rams, lambs).
Do not underdose.
Where there is a large variation in size within the group, the dose rate should be based on the label directions for each weight range.
Drafting into two or more lines may be appropriate, to avoid excessive overdosing.
Use a drench gun with silicone sealed ‘o’ rings.

Using another internal parasite treatment (i.e. Moxidectin Long Acting) concurrently with Startect Oral Drench For Sheep is not recommended due to the unknown risks of overdosing plus complications calculating meat residues & withholding periods. It is not advised to retreat the sheep until 28 days after the treatment with the Startect Oral Drench For Sheep. We suggest speaking with your local vet or the manufacturer (Zoetis) at 1800 022 442 for further technical advice.

Re-Treatment Interval:

Do not re-treat for 28 days after last treatment.

Restraints:

Do not use in female sheep which are producing or may in the future produce milk or milk products for human consumption.

Precautions & Considerations:

Very toxic to horses. Do not use in horses or species other than sheep.
Estimate live weights carefully to avoid overdosing. Acute toxicity and deaths have occurred at doses greater than three times the recommended dose.
Use a drench gun with silicone sealed ‘o’ rings. It is recommended you use the Startect ST 20mL Drench Gun when using Startect.

Safety:

The safety of this product has not been established in lambs less than 6 weeks of age or 15 kg bodyweight.
A high proportion of sheep may cough following treatment.
This passing response is of no consequence.
Studies have shown no adverse effects on reproduction in breeding animals dosed at three times the recommended rate.

Safety Directions:

May irritate the skin.
Avoid contact with the skin.
When opening the container and using the product, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and elbow-length chemical-resistant gloves.
After use and before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms and face thoroughly with soap and water. After each day’s use wash contaminated clothing.
