Description

Onset 10GR Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Prodiamine @ 10g/kg

Similar or comparable to Spartan Herbicide (Turf Culture) & Barricade Herbicide (Syngenta)

Onset 10GR Herbicide is a selective pre-emergent herbicide that provides residual control (up to 6 months) of many weeds in various established turf species.  Onset 10GR Herbicide is one of the few pre-emergent herbicides registered for controlling Parramatta Grass, Rats Tail Fescue, Paspalum and African Love Grass in turf whilst still having Intense activity on Crowsfoot, Crabgrass and Summer Grass.

Where can Onset 10GR Herbicide used;

In established turf;

  • Bahia Grass (Paspalum notatum)
  • Buffalo Grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum)
  • Carpet Grass (Axonopus affinis, Axonopus compressus)
  • Common Couch (Cynodon dactylon)
  • Hybrid Couch (Cynodon dactylon x Cynodon transvaalensis)
  • Kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum)
  • Qld Blue Couch (Digitaria didactyla)
  • Seashore Paspalum (Paspalum vaginatun)
  • Zoysia (Zoysia japonica, Zoysia matrella)

What weeds does Onset 10GR Herbicide target;

  • Barnyard Grass (Echinocloa crus-galli)
  • Crab Grass (Digitaria sanguinalis)
  • Parramatta Grass (Sporobolus africana)
  • Rat’s Tail Fescue (Vulpia myuros)
  • Summer Grass (Digitaria sanguinalis)
  • Crowsfoot Grass (Eleusine indica)
  • African Lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula)
  • Bahia Grass (Paspalum notatum)
  • Kentucky Blue Grass (Poa patensis)
  • Paspalum (Paspalum dilitatum)
  • Winter Grass (Poa annua)

Onset 10GR Herbicide is coated on a 200SGN (2mm) dust-free, silica granule. The granule contains 26% Plant Available Silicon. Silicon has proven links in abiotic stress management, nutrient uptake improvement and cell wall conditioning, as well as known benefits of increasing turfgrass wear and reducing drought stress.

Why choose Onset 10GR Herbicide;

  • The granular formulation is convenient, easy to apply and spread, and reduces drift and concerns around off-target movement.
  • Broad spectrum pre-emergent grass weed control.
  • One of the few pre-emergent herbicides registered for controlling Parramatta Grass, Rats Tail Fescue, Paspalum and African Love Grass.
  • Intense activity on Crowsfoot, Crabgrass and Summer Grass.
  • Non-scheduled chemistry – safer to handle and use in public spaces.
  • Excellent residual performance – up to 6 months.
  • Delivers available silicon to the soil. Improves stress management, nutrient uptake, cell wall strength, and turfgrass wear.

Prodiamine, the active ingredient in Onset 10GR Herbicide, prevents root growth by blocking plant cell division steps needed for chromosome separation and cell wall formation in the germinating weed seed. As a result of restricted cell division, the growth of the emerging weed seedling stops, eventuating in death due to a lack of available food reserves.

Prodiamine is absorbed through roots and inhibits root and shoot growth in susceptible weed species. Prodiamine has a high soil binding capacity, staying within the top few centimetres of soil. Selectivity in turf is caused by differences in germination depth of susceptible grass seedlings that absorb the prodiamine in the top layer of soil, compared to the growing points in the turf’s roots system at a greater depth and is unable to uptake the prodiamine.

  • Note: Crowsfoot Grass germinates later than Crab Grass and/or Summer Grass.
  • Use higher rates in situations with multiple weeds to ensure adequate residual control.

    Onset 10GR Herbicide does not have a best-before or expiry date. The best practice is to use the product within approximately 3-5 years from the DOM. Storage for a six-month period will not be a problem. We recommend storing Onset 10GR Herbicide in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

    As Onset 10GR Herbicide is recommended to be applied evenly at 0.5kg-1.5kg/100m2, a spreading device (i.e. fertiliser spreader) is advised. Hand application does not provide the even application at a calibrated rate. The likelihood of application either over & under the recommended rate is high if it is thrown out by hand.

    Onset 10GR Herbicide is registered for use in turf /lawns and hence, not recommended for use in pasture situations. Note the withholding period statement on the 'directions for use' label, "Do not graze treated turf or lawn or feed turf or lawn clippings from any treated area to poultry or livestock."

    Onset 10GR Herbicide is only registered as a pre-emergent in established turf species.  There is no data available on its effectiveness for species such as pumpkins, and can't recommend it be used for this purpose.
