Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel contains Moxidectin (20 mg/mL) and Praziquantel (125 mg/mL) to treat and control tapeworm, gastrointestinal roundworms, encysted small strongyles, bots and cutaneous onchocerciasis in horses.

It is the only horse wormer with a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles in a single dose, making it particularly effective for breaking the parasite life cycle. Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel EQUEST-PLUS-TAPE Zoetis

Description

Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel is a long-acting oral wormer and boticide for horses, made from the active ingredients Moxidectin at 20 mg/mL and Praziquantel at 125 mg/mL. In a single dose, this Zoetis Australia Pty Ltd product treats and controls tapeworm, gut roundworms (including encysted small strongyles and benzimidazole-resistant strains), bots and skin-dwelling Onchocerca microfilariae. Because the Egg Reappearance Period (ERP) is at least 14 weeks, pasture re-seeding by strongyle eggs drops sharply, and retreatment intervals extend to 14 to 16 weeks.

Moxidectin belongs to the second-generation macrocyclic lactone class, while praziquantel is a proven tapeworm-specific active. Together, these two ingredients deliver dual-action control across a wide parasite range. As a result, Equest Plus Tape covers more species in one treatment than most single-active wormers. It is also safe for foals over 4 weeks of age and all breeding stock, including stallions and pregnant mares.

Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer Parasite Spectrum

Equest Plus Tape is effective for the treatment and control of the following parasites in horses:

Parasite Category Species Controlled
Tapeworm Anoplocephala perfoliata, A. magna, Paranoplocephala mamillana
Large Strongyles Strongylus vulgaris (adults, L3 and L4 arterial stages), S. edentatus (adults and L4 visceral larval stages), S. equinus (adults), Triodontophorus spp. (adults), Craterostomum acuticaudatum (adults)
Small Strongyles (adults) Cyathostomum spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicodontophorus bicoronatus, Coronocyclus spp., Gyalocephalus capitatus, Parapoteriostomum mettami, Petrovinema poculatus, Poteriostomum imparidentatum, including benzimidazole-resistant strains
Encysted Small Strongyles Developing stages (DL), late encysted stages (LL3/EL4), aids in control of early encysted stages (EL3) including inhibited larvae
Pinworms Oxyuris equi (adults and L3/L4 larval stages)
Ascarids Parascaris equorum (adults and intestinal stages L4)
Hairworms Trichostrongylus axei (adults)
Intestinal Threadworms Strongyloides westeri
Large Mouthed Stomach Worms Habronema spp. (gastric and cutaneous/summer sore forms)
Stomach Bots Gasterophilus intestinalis (2nd and 3rd stage larvae), G. nasalis (2nd and 3rd stage larvae)
Cutaneous Onchocerciasis Onchocerca spp. (microfilariae)

Why is Equest Plus Tape the Only Horse Wormer for Encysted Small Strongyles?

Equest Plus Tape is the only horse wormer with a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles in a single dose. These worms burrow into the gut lining, where they hibernate and can trigger colic. While other wormers only kill the active worms in the gut, Equest Plus Tape also targets the encysted forms. Consequently, the life cycle is blocked at an earlier stage, so no small strongyle worms can re-emerge and mature straight after worming. Tested efficacy against encysted stages is greater than 90%.

How Often Should You Treat with Equest Plus Tape?

Because the ERP is at least 14 weeks, retreatment intervals for small strongyles can stretch to 14 to 16 weeks. By comparison, most other horse wormers require dosing every 6 to 8 weeks. As a result, horse owners need fewer treatments per year, and pastures stay free of worm eggs for longer. However, the ideal interval depends on your property, so consult your vet for advice on faecal egg count readings and the right program for your needs.

Directions Of Use

Click here for Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel directions for use.

Equest Plus Tape is administered orally at a dose rate of 0.4 mg/kg moxidectin and 2.5 mg/kg praziquantel. It is supplied in a ready-to-use syringe calibrated according to the horse’s body weight in 25 kg increments. Accurately determine the horse’s weight using scales or a weigh tape and adjust the dial ring to the correct setting. Insert the syringe nozzle into the horse’s mouth at the space between the front and rear teeth, ensure the tip is over the back of the tongue, and deliver the gel by pushing the plunger until it stops. Raise the horse’s head after dosing to ensure the gel is swallowed.

Do not administer the full syringe to horses under 500 kg (14.4 g syringe). Use with caution in foals and smaller breeds by carefully calibrating the dose. For heavy horses exceeding 700 kg (14.4 g syringe), more than one syringe is required.

Tips For Use

Parasite Control Programs:

  • All horses should have a regular parasite control program. Regular treatment reduces the risk of diseases caused by small and large strongyles, such as colic and verminous arteritis.
  • Reinfection with worms is common, and treatment must be repeated routinely to ensure effective control.
  • The long-term activity of Equest Plus Tape against worms, including encysted small strongyles, is particularly useful in reducing dosing frequency in strategic parasite control programs.
  • Retreatment intervals for small strongyles can be extended to 14 to 16 weeks. Consult your veterinarian for advice on faecal egg count interpretation and the appropriate program for your needs.

Restraints:

  • Do not administer the full syringe to horses under 500 kg (14.4 g).
  • Use with caution in foals and smaller breeds by carefully calibrating the dose and avoiding overdosing.
  • Keep away from dogs. Excessive consumption of spilt material may cause toxicity.

Storage:

  • Store below 30°C (room temperature).

Safety Directions:

  • Harmful if swallowed. Will irritate eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • If the product gets in the eyes, wash them out immediately with water.
  • Wash your hands after use.
  • Additional information is available in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Environmental Protection:

  • Extremely toxic to aquatic species. Do not contaminate dams, rivers, streams or other waterways with the chemical or used container.
