Description
Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel is a long-acting oral wormer and boticide for horses, made from the active ingredients Moxidectin at 20 mg/mL and Praziquantel at 125 mg/mL. In a single dose, this Zoetis Australia Pty Ltd product treats and controls tapeworm, gut roundworms (including encysted small strongyles and benzimidazole-resistant strains), bots and skin-dwelling Onchocerca microfilariae. Because the Egg Reappearance Period (ERP) is at least 14 weeks, pasture re-seeding by strongyle eggs drops sharply, and retreatment intervals extend to 14 to 16 weeks.
Moxidectin belongs to the second-generation macrocyclic lactone class, while praziquantel is a proven tapeworm-specific active. Together, these two ingredients deliver dual-action control across a wide parasite range. As a result, Equest Plus Tape covers more species in one treatment than most single-active wormers. It is also safe for foals over 4 weeks of age and all breeding stock, including stallions and pregnant mares.

Why is Equest Plus Tape the Only Horse Wormer for Encysted Small Strongyles?
Equest Plus Tape is the only horse wormer with a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles in a single dose. These worms burrow into the gut lining, where they hibernate and can trigger colic. While other wormers only kill the active worms in the gut, Equest Plus Tape also targets the encysted forms. Consequently, the life cycle is blocked at an earlier stage, so no small strongyle worms can re-emerge and mature straight after worming. Tested efficacy against encysted stages is greater than 90%.
How Often Should You Treat with Equest Plus Tape?
Because the ERP is at least 14 weeks, retreatment intervals for small strongyles can stretch to 14 to 16 weeks. By comparison, most other horse wormers require dosing every 6 to 8 weeks. As a result, horse owners need fewer treatments per year, and pastures stay free of worm eggs for longer. However, the ideal interval depends on your property, so consult your vet for advice on faecal egg count readings and the right program for your needs.
