Equest Plus Tape Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel (Moxidectin & Praziquantel) EQUEST-PLUS-TAPE Zoetis

Description

Equest Plus Tape Long Acting Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel

Active Ingredients: Moxidectin @ 20mg/ml & Praziquantel @ 125mg/ml

Equest Plus Tape Long Acting Horse Wormer And Boticide Gel contain the active ingredient Moxidectin and Praziquantel to effectively treat Tapeworms, Large Strongyles, Small Strongyles, Pinworms, Ascarids, Hairworms, Intestinal Threadworms, Large Mouthed Stomach Worms, Stomach Bots and Cutaneous Onchocerciasis in horses.

Equest Plus Tape is the only horse wormer that is long acting: re-treatment is recommended after 14-16 weeks compared to after 6-8 weeks with other wormers. This means fewer treatments per year, and twice the time pastures are left free of worm eggs.

Equest Plus Tape is also the only horse wormer to have a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles in a single dose. Small strongyle worms hibernate or encyst in the lining of the horse’s gut and can cause colic. While other horse wormers kill the small strongyle worms in the gut, Equest Plus Tape is the only wormer with a registered claim to also kill the encysted forms. This means that the life cycle is blocked at a much earlier stage and that no small strongyle worms can re-emerge and mature in the horse’s gut straight after worming.

Equest Plus Tape is a unique gel formulation that dissolves rapidly on the tongue. The dial-up syringe is designed with a narrow barrel to allow easy access to the side of the horse’s mouth and deliver the right dose every time.
Equest Plus Tape is safe for pregnant mares and breeding stallions, and foals over 4 weeks of age.

Equest Plus Tape long-acting horse wormer and boticide gel is the only horse wormer effective as a single dose against encysted stages of small strongyles: developing stages (DL), late encysted stages (LL3/EL4), and aids in the control of early encysted stages (EL3) including inhibited larvae (greater than 90% effective).

  • Pinworms: Oxyurus equi (adults and L3/L4 larval stages).
  • Ascarids: Parascaris equorum (adults and intestinal stages (L4)).
  • Hairworms: Trichostrongylus axei (adults).
  • Intestinal Threadworms: Strongyloides westeri.
  • Large Mouthed Stomach Worms: Habronema spp. (gastric and cutaneous (summer sore) forms).
  • Stomach Bots: Gasterophilus intestinalis (2 & 3 stage larvae), Gasterophilus nasalis (2 & 3 stage larvae).
  • Cutaneous Onchocerciasis: Onchocerca spp. (microfilariae).

Equest Plus Tape is palatable and effective for the treatment and control of:

  • Tapeworm: Anoplocephala perfoliata and Paranoplocephala mamillana.
  • Large Strongyles: Strongylus vulgaris (adults, L3 and L4 arterial stages), Strongylus edentatus (adults and L4 visceral larval stages), Strongylus equinus (adults), Tridontophorus spp. (adults) including T. brevicauda, T. serratus and T. tenuicollis, Craterostomum acuticaudatum (adults).
  • Small Strongyles (adults): Cyathostomum spp. including C. catinatum and C. pateratum, Cylicostephanus spp. including C. calicatus, C. goldi, C. longibursatus and C. minutus, Cylicocyclus spp. including C. brevicapsulatus, C. elongatus, C. insigne, C. leptostomum, C. nassatus, C. radiatus, C. ashworthi and C. ultrajectinus, Cylicodontophorus bicoronatus, Coronocyclus spp. including C. coronatus, C. labiatus and C. labratus, Gyalocephalus capitatus, Parapoteriostomum mettami, Peterovinema poculatus, Poteriostomum imparidentatum, as well as benzimidazole resistant strains.

Broad Spectrum:
Equest Plus Tape long-acting horse wormer and boticide gel is the only horse wormer to control tapeworm and all important gastrointestinal roundworms, including adult and encysted stages (DL, LL3, EL4) and benzimidazole resistant strains of small strongyles, and aids in the control of early encysted stages (EL3), including inhibited larvae (greater than 90% effective). Protects for 14 -16 weeks.

One Syringe is sufficient to treat a horse weighing 575kg.  For a heavy horse (575kg +) it will be necessary to apply more than 1 syringe.

  • Equest Plus Tape Long Acting Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel is supplied in a ready-to-use syringe, calibrated according to the horse’s body weight to be treated, in intervals of 25kg body weight.  The use of this calibration will deliver the recommended dose.
  • One 11.8gm syringe is sufficient to treat a horse weighing 575 kg.
  • Do not administer the full syringe to horses under 400kg.
  • Use with caution in foals and smaller breeds by carefully calibrating the dose and avoiding overdosing.
  • Keep away from dogs. Excessive consumption of split material may cause toxicity.
  • When used as directed, Equest Plus Tape long activin horse wormer and boticide gel is safe in foals over 4 weeks of age, and in all breeding stock, including stallions and pregnant mares.

Note: 1 syringe is sufficient to treat a horse weighing 575kg. For a heavy horse (weight exceeding 575kg) it will be necessary to apply more than 1 syringe. To accurately determine the amount to administer with the second syringe, subtract 575 from the horse’s weight and set the plunger accordingly. For a 725kg horse, set the plunger on the second syringe to 150kg (725kg minus 575kg).

Tips For Use

Administration:

  • When used as directed, Equest Plus Tape Long Acting Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel is safe to use in foals over 4 weeks of age and in all breeding stock, including stallions and pregnant mares.
  • Equest Plus Tape Long Acting Horse Wormer & Boticide Gel is administered orally (into the mouth).
  • It is supplied in a ready-to-use syringe, calibrated according to the horses’ body weight to be treated, in intervals of 25kg.  The use of this calibration will deliver the recommended dose.
  • Accurately determine the weight of the horse to be treated (if a scale is unavailable, use a weigh tape) and be sure to adjust the syringe to the correct dose per horse.
  • One Syringe is sufficient to treat a horse weighing 575kg.
  • For a heavy horse (575kg +), it will be necessary to apply more than 1 syringe

Administration:

Prepare the syringe:

  • Hold the syringe with the capped end pointing to the left wso the weight measurements and the tick marks (small black lines) can be seen as shown in the diagram below.
  • Turn the dial ring until the left side of thring lines up with the weight of the animal.  Remove the barrel cap and save it for later use if required.

Administer the Dose:

  • Ensure the animal’s mouth is empty.  With your thumb on the plunger, insert the nozzle of the syringe into the horse’s mouth in the space between the front and rear teeth and ensure the tip of the syringe is over the tongue.
  • Deliver the dose of the gel onto the back of the tongue by gently pushing the plunger until it stops.
  • Raise the horse’s head once dosing is completed to ensure the gel is swallowed.
  • The surplus gel can be used to treat a second horse.
  • If gel remains in the syringe once the full dose has been delivered, replace the barrel cap.  Store the remaining gel below 30 degrees Celsius (room temperature) for later use, but do not use it after the expiry date shown on the label.
  • If the first animal treated weighed less than 575kg, there would be gel left in the syringe, which can be used to treat a second horse.  To set the next dose, add the weight of the animal to be treated to the dose setting already on the syringe.  For example, if the syringe was first used to treat a foal weighing 100kg, the green ring dial is set to 100kg.  To treat a horse of 400kg next, move the green dial ring to the 500kg marking.

Parasite Control Programs:

  • All horses should have a regular parasite control program.
  • Regular treatment will reduce the risk of diseases due to small and large strongyles such as colic and verminous arteritis.
  • The reinfection of horses with worms is common, and treatment must be repeated routinely to ensure effective control.
  • The unique long-term activity of Equest Plus Tape long-acting horse wormer and boticide gel against worms, including encysted small strongyles, is particularly useful in reducing the required dosing frequency in strategic parasite control programs.
  • Treatment intervals for the control of small strongyles can be extended to 14 to 16 weeks.
  • Consult your veterinarian for advice on faecal egg count interpretation and the appropriate program for your specific needs.

Storage:

  • Store below 30 degrees Celsius (room temperature)
