TickPro Duo Pour-On TICKPRO-DUO Specialist Sales

Description

How TickPro Duo works

TickPro Duo Pour-On treatment combines two complementary modes of action to support long-term parasite control – fluazuron (a tick development inhibitor) and ivermectin (a macrocyclic lactone endectocide).

Fluazuron works by preventing immature ticks from moulting and reproducing, minimising the build-up of tick populations in cattle and paddocks over time. This makes it a particularly beneficial component of a strategic tick program, rather than just in short-term knockdown efforts.

Ivermectin provides broad-spectrum control of ivermectin-sensitive internal and external parasites, delivering immediate results against worms, mites, and buffalo fly.

Combined, the actives in TickPro Duo Pour-On for Beef Cattle help to manage resistance pressure and improve overall control, as long as products are used as directed and rotated appropriately.

Which parasites are controlled by TickPro Duo Pour-On?

TickPro Duo Pour-On treatment can help producers across Australia manage a variety of common internal and external parasites, including:

Ivermectin-sensitive internal parasites

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms
    • Barber’s pole worm (Haemonchus placei)
    • Intestinal hair worm (Trichostrongylus colubriformus)
    • Intestinal threadworm (Strongyloides papillosus) – adult stages only
    • Nodule worm (Oesophagostomum radiatum, O. venulosum)

    • Small intestinal worm (Cooperia spp.)
    • Stomach hair worm (Trichostrongylus axei)
    • Thin-necked intestinal worm (Nematodirus helvetianus) – immature L4 stages
    • Whipworm (Trichuris discolor, Trichuris ovis) – adult stages only

Other internal parasites

When and where to use TickPro Duo Pour-On for Beef Cattle

TickPro Duo will deliver best results when used as part of a planned tick and parasite control program, particularly in tick-endemic regions where resistance and pasture contamination present ongoing challenges. It should not be used for reactive treatments only.

TickPro Duo is also suitable for use during high tick pressure periods and when herds require combined worm and cattle tick control. Notably, TickPro has been formulated specifically for beef cattle under Australian conditions, and cannot be used to manage parasite burdens in dairy cattle.

As with any chemical treatment, always follow the directions listed on the Product Label, and integrate TickPro Duo with other strategies like paddock rotation and resistance-aware product rotation.

Frequently asked questions

Does TickPro Duo kill adult ticks immediately?

TickPro Duo is designed for strategic tick control. Ivermectin provides knockdown of susceptible parasites, while fluazuron works by interrupting the tick life cycle, reducing future burdens.

Is TickPro Duo effective against resistant ticks?

Yes – fluazuron has been proven to control cattle tick strains resistant to organophosphates, synthetic pyrethroids, and amidines, making TickPro a valuable tool in resistance-affected areas.

Can TickPro Duo be used year-round?

TickPro Duo can be used whenever cattle are at risk, but best results will be seen when it is timed strategically as part of a broader parasite management program.

Is TickPro suitable for dairy cattle?

No, TickPro Duo is designed specifically for beef cattle only. Always check the Product Label for directions for use and withholding periods before application.

Critical Comments:

  1. Retreat when you first see ticks but not before at least 6 weeks after the previous treatment.
  2. The maximum number of treatments with a fluazuron product, per annual tick season: 3.
  3. To achieve optimal efficacy, TickPro relies on a combination of absorption through the skin and oral ingestion (via grooming). For oral ingestion, it is critical that the product is applied as 2 x 7 cm wide bands, from the shoulder to the rump, that is well separated on either side of the spine. Use an approved TickPro Duo applicator.
  4. The weight of cattle should be determined by either scales or a weigh band. Dose individuals according to the heaviest animal in the mob. Recommended rate gives 1.5 mg fluazuron and 0.5 mg ivermectin per kg bodyweight of beef cattle. Do not underdose.
  5. There is no need to treat calves for cattle tick as long as they suckle treated cows. Calves will receive adequate protection from their mother. A reduced length of protection may occur in cows that are suckling calves.
  6. TickPro Duo should not be applied to show cattle as a light scurfiness may be visible for some time after treatment.
  7. The effect of TickPro Duo is not adversely affected if rain occurs after application.

Rates are a general guide only. Before opening, carefully read TickPro Duo Pour-On directions for use, precautionary and protection statements, storage and disposal, safety directions and first aid instructions.

Questions and answers from customers

Is TickPro Duo Pour-On safe to use on calves?

  1. Q Is TickPro Duo Pour-On safe to use on calves?
Asked by Grant on November 25, 2025 12:05 pm
    A

Tickpro Duo Pour-On is safe for use on calves; however, treatment is generally unnecessary if they are suckling treated cows, as they receive adequate protection through their mother's milk. Crucially, any calf that has suckled on a treated cow must not be slaughtered for meat less than 4 months after the cow's last treatment. If direct treatment is required, please consult the label for specific dosage rates, noting that the dosage table begins at 101 kg.

  2. Does TickPro Duo Pour-On control paralysis ticks?

Tickpro Duo Pour-On is only registered to control Cattle Tick (Rhipicephalus microplus). To our knowledge, no pour-on or injectable drenches are registered to control paralysis tick.

  9. Q How long (days) is tick protection with Tickpro duo?
Asked by Stephen Nussio on January 20, 2022 7:25 pm
    Answered by the admin

TickPro Duo Pour-On does not have a set protection period listed on its label for tick protection.  It is typically accepted that Fluazuron Pour-on's should provide up to 12-weeks of protection, but this may be affected by the environment (tick pressure) and stock factors (growth rate, lactation).
